I need some help.
We will be traveling by car to disney and have decided to stop in Tallahassee on the way down & back. I am looking for a clean, cheap place to rest for one night. Not a scary roach motel but not the 4 seasons. We want to spend our hard earned money @ disney..not tallahassee. All suggestions will be great.....good,bad or ugly. Thanks....I know ya'll come through!:woohoo:

Depends on what you mean by cheap. I would personally avoid the hotels at the north US-27 exit. They are mostly older and I've heard poor reviews of some of them (like dirty rooms, bugs, etc.).

When are your travel dates?

There is a Hampton Inn at the US319 (thomasville rd) exit that is fairly new. It's right by several restaurants and is easy to get to off I-10. It's the one with Lonnbladh Rd as the address.

There are a few other places in town, but if you're just passing through and want to stay easy-on, easy-off, then I'd look at that exit. The Hampton Inn on Apalachee Parkway is good, too - my BIL / SIL have stayed there - it is probably about $20 less per night than the other one. Apalachee Pkwy is US27 South.

The Hilton Garden Inn on Blairstone Rd is also pretty new - I've been to conferences there but not stayed there. It's right off Apalachee Pkwy, too.

If you find a place online and want more info about it, let me know and I'll see if I can help. You can just PM me if you want. I'm local to the area.

After we left WDW and drove up to visit family in Talahassee.we stayed at the Hampton Inn on Appalachee .... . .. . . leaving DVC and staying in a hotel.............such a downer.......BUT this place was immaculate, and the beds and comforters were heaven, rms had micro-wave and refrigerator and table with 2 chairs......the continental breakfast was fabulous....friendly etc....I would recommend it.....i might add we just left there 2 wks ago......

Don't stay at the Cabot Lodge--it looks nice on the outside and has a pleasant little lobby with a free Happy Hour, but the housekeeping problems are disgusting. Sorry I can't hep with a positive recommendation--this is the only place I stayed in Tallahassee and it was awful.

I just want to say thank you so much. I am new to all of this and really appreciate someone listening!:rotfl: Thanks for all the info....it really helps. We are just passing through Tallahassee for 1 night(April 14 & April 21). Thanks for all the help....keep it coming!:tink: :fish: :goofy:

Just FYI - Tallahassee is 4 1/2 hrs to WDW. We always stop at the McD's in Alachua just north of Gainesville - that's about half-way - will you be going down US27 or doing the I-10 to I-75 route? We can't decide which is a better way to go and usually end up doing the interstates since we have our stops where we know.

I live in Tallahassee myself and can tell you if you want cheap and your definition of cheap is $70-$99 a night then the Hampton Inns would be good choices there is one on N. Munroe, Appalachee parkway and Thomasville rd. If your idea of cheap is less than the amounts above I would check into the Motel 6 on North Munroe this is a good area of town, and tehre is also one on Timberlane road which is a good area too. Also there is another hotel that is called the executive inn and suites and it is a great hotel off of North Munroe on a road called silver slipper lane. Their rates used to be in the mid 60's to 70's and they have jakuzzi tubs. If you are traveling I10 after you leave Tallaahssee then you will want to stay at a hotel on North Monroe, or Thomasville road, the above mention Motel 6 on Timberlane would be a good choice too as it isn't very far from the I10 exit. If you will be going 75 after you stop in Tallahassee, then a hotel on Appalachee parkway would be best for you. Avoid the Days Inns in Tallahassee though, because they are all trashy. Hope this helps.

I would avoid ALL motels on N. Monroe! There are some decent ones further down Appalache Parkway towards the capital. The nicest are on Capital Circle NE.

The Fairfield Inn is also nice and clean.

Another vote for the Hampton Inn on Apalachee Parkway. I stayed there last fall--by myself--and felt safe and comfortable. The room was spotless.

BTW--Here's the directions to take the new shortcut to WDW.

I-75 to the FL Tpke, get off onto the 429 southbound, (I can't recall the exact number but it will be the first or second exit after exit 272.)

Follow about 12 miles until you see the sign that says "Disney World." Careful on that exit ramp, it's a sharper turn than you'd initially think.

That will dump you onto Western Way. The speed limit is a strictly enforced 45 mph for about half a mile, then it drops to 35 mph.

Western Way will end at Coronado Springs.

Hey Guys:thumbsup2 , thanks a bunch for all over your great info!!popcorn:: Thanks ducklite, I will copy these directions and try and convince my DH (aka professional truck driver) to go this way. I am all about saving time!! Of course DH "thinks" he is incharge:rotfl2: . Yeh, right.(gotta love him). We will be sharing drive time on this trip but not in orlando......I will let him take charge just this one time.:yay: I know I can manage the traffic,I do travel alot without my husband (and manage just fine-I can read a map;) )but he has traveled this area numerous times.

Anne - thanks for the directions - we knew there was a way to go that way but weren't sure how to go - because we've always just done the turnpike to I-4 and then backtracked. Is 429 a toll-road?

Yup. There are two tolls, not sure exactly how much because I use Sun Pass, but I think $1 each or less.

Thanks. Just don't wanna be caught without enough change :)

They are manned, so it's not a problem. I've never seen more than one car in any of the toll barriers at a time, the road is just not all that well used at this point in time.

I agree with Anne. We used the "new" route in June 2006...right after it was opened. There were no cars at all around us. I thought I might have been going the wrong way or something....it was crazy.

But....alas....we ended up right near Coronado Springs and traveled down the road to Pop Century for check-in. It was nice after fighting all the traffic on the interstates.

We are also driving from Louisiana and stopping in Tallahassee in May.

I noticed on BiddingForTravel that several people have been getting Holiday Inn & Suites - Tallahassee North for $51 on Priceline (2.5 star rating). I also occasionally see Courtyard by Marriott at that price as well (also 2.5 star rating).

Just curious if anyone has anything good or bad to say about these hotels. Looks like it would be around $65 after taxes and Priceline fees.

I've also noticed the Tallahassee Inn (former Holiday Inn) was going for $35 per night as a 2 star on BFT. I read some reviews on TripAdvisor that said that they recently remodeled and are set to become a Days Inn soon.

I don't mind spending the $16 more to stay at a national chain...but, just wanted some input on the Tallahassee Inn as well, if possible.

Also...to the original poster....check out TripAdvisor.com . Just type in Tallahassee, FL and it will list reviews on hotels from people who stayed in that area.

Just FYI....both of the Hampton Inns mentioned in this thread are rated high on TripAdvisor (#2 and #4)

Thanks for all the advice!! I am glad to see that this tread has helped many. And yes, I have discovered TripAdvisor but I didn't know about Bidfortravel. Thanks again!:cool1:
