Be careful talking people into buying DVC. My sister and BIL bought last year. We actually tried to talk them out of it a bit. I just wasn't sure it was right for them. I thought that they were making a hasty decision while they were staying with us in a grand villa last May. Well, DVC probably wasn't the right choice for them. When they bought they were given 2001 points that they banked into this year (use year Dec.). And they have all of this year's points which they still haven't made any plans for using any of them. Come to find out they are last minute planners when it comes to vacations. And now my BIL found out his National Guard unit is being activated and he will be in Cuba for well over a year. Now they are trying to figure out what they will be doing with 3 years worth of points and absolutely no time to use them in. I know that they can rent them, but why buy DVC if all you will do is rent out the points. Plus they will more than likely rent the points at the last minute and get very little for them. They do have a month before he leaves and they are looking at using the CC for a few nights maybe. Who knows. But even though we didn't talk them into it I feel a bit responsible for them getting into this mess. While he is gone he will only be making about 1/2 his normal paycheck. They probably can't afford DVC right now.
