Unfortunately, I don't have time to read 111 pages of the "Lounge Lizard" thread (maybe someday though :) )

So.....
WHAT is Concierge and give me ALL the reasons you can think of to go with Concierge......

Is "Concierge" a floor in each resort?
Is there always a better view?
Tell me about the lounges......... Is there always FREE food and drinks (alcoholic and otherwise) available?
Do some WDW resorts have better concierges than others?

Thanks. :)

Concierge is basically a high level of personal service. In other hotels around the world, that typically does translate to better rooms, but with Disney, the rooms are basically the same as standard just with upgraded amenities. That sometimes includes a free refrigerator, better soaps & shampoos, a bathrobe and slippers. At the Animal Kingdom Lodge, concierge guests are also offered an opportunity to book a sunrise or sunset safari that's not available to any other guests.

Concierge service begins the moment you book your room. You're given a representative from the itinerary planning office who will take care of all your priority seating arrangements, your entertainment tickets, recreation, transportation, private dining, shopping assistance, pretty much anything that you can think of. While most people don't mind taking care of all this themselves, it does save a lot of time. You simply notify your pre-planner of what you want and they put it into their computer system. You don't have to wait until the reservation window opens up, which is especially nice for hard to get items such as Cinderella's breakfast and the fireworks cruises.

When you arrive at the resort, you can be met at the curb by a concierge greeter, or you might be sent a key that will allow you direct access to the concierge floor. I believe most of the resorts offer private check-in so you can bypass the normal registration line. The lounges offer nearly continuous food service from 6:30am until anytime between 7-10pm, depending on resort and level of concierge service that you purchased. I think it's pretty unanimous that the concierge breakfast will fill you up. Not only do you get the fruit and muffins, but they also have cereal, bagels, yogurt, etc. Throughout the day you'll find food that's more on the appetizer side, like vegetables and dip, hummus, nachos and light salads. In the evening, you'll most likely see a hot dish served along with wine and beer is available for those who ask. They normally end the evening with a dessert buffet that includes coffee and cordials. I think that the Contemporary and the GF offer a secondary reduced concierge service that does not include the alcohol or the desserts. Lemonade, iced tea, water, coffee, hot tea & cocoa are available throughout the day also.

During your stay, there is a concierge staff to assist you with any last minute changes or additions to your schedule.

It's really not possible to put a monetary value on concierge. If you're going to make your own reservations and spend nearly all of your time at the parks or other recreation, then this level of service is probably not a good choice. For those that are busy and want someone else to take care of all their arrangements and have set aside just as much time relaxing and enjoying the resort as they have for parks, then it's something to consider.

I hope that helps.

Tammi gave a great explanation. We enjoy staying concierge when the budget allows because we like the feeling of being pampered while on vacation. We don't get to do that much in our everyday lives, so it's a nice change of pace. :teeth:

Well put, Tammi. I used to make all my own arrangements, even when staying concierge, but having used IPO the last few times, I will never go back to doing it myself - they have kept trying to get a difficult PS, put us on a wait list for booked-up fireworks cruises, made suggestions about alternatives, suggested different times for PSs so we wouldn't get stuck by a parade, show, crowd, etc. Since I am the one who does all the caregiving, planning, and organizing at home, having someone take care of me is one of the best parts of my vacation!

exactly as the others put it! I stay concierge all the time at WDW.
We stay concierge because of the service, it is so nice to be treated special on vacation, with a little extra attention.
the lounge is great, for conveneince, a cup of coffee, a snack, but if I never step foot in the lounge in one day, i still dont feel like it wasnt "worth it" concierge is about the whole experience, level of service...etc...
if you are counting to see if you'll eat enough snacks..etc.. to make up the $$ you spent, then it is not worth it... cause that isnt what it is meant to be about.

try it, concierge is great! :)

I love staying concierge. I usually do all my PS myself but this time I let IPO do it and boy oh boy am i spoiled, they were right on top of everything, got all my seatings I wanted and have been so hepful, especially with me working 40 hrs a week, they took care of it all. I cant wait to go :D

This past trip in August to the Polynesain, I realized another lovely thing about concierge. If you arrive before your room is ready, or need to check out of your room before you actually are leaving, you don't feel so homeless.

On both ends of our trip the lounge provided my family with comfortable place to relax, cold drinks and treats (love those cookies), TV for the kids, a great view, and a convenient restroom for changing into swimsuits.

So add that to the list of "perks" that you really can't put a $ on.

Does it include the valet parking? We just received our "key" for Concierge at BC and it said to tell the valet we were concierge.

Since I don't plan on using the car all that much, sure would hate to pay for the convenience of having it brought to the door when I really don't need it.

TIA!

I would like to know the answer to this also since we will have a rental car on our next visit. Usually we just hire a Towncar for transfers, but with our DS15 staying at another resort with his HS chorus, I wanted the car for convenience.

No, it doesn't include valet parking, unless you have a disabled/handicap tag....it is waived for that.

I'd just tip them to park it for you and do the rest of the trip as self-park.
Just get the parking pass from check-in and put it on your car dashboard.

WOW! Looks like there are alot of lounge lizards here on the DIS!
And great reasons have been given!
More reasons than the ones already listed....

EXTRA personal attention...they will pack and ship anything for you. Find something out for you....
No long lines to stand in for assistance, guest services, etc.

There's more to concierge than food.

It is an experience in itself! And once you've been pampered, it's very hard to go back to a regular deluxe room.
Ack! Same for the suites! Hard to go back to a regular room after you've stayed in a suite.
