All of the differing viewpoints on this thread is exactly why I load every dish, mug, glass, and utensil we plan to use on our trip as soon as we arrive and run the dishwasher on check-in day. I keep them separate from the others. I just don't trust that others have cleaned them.

I do run the dishwasher before leaving, but I guess I should leave it if mousekeepers have to restart it. I just hate leaving extra work for mousekeepers. I also take out trash and collect all towels and put in the tub. I used to strip the beds until someone mentioned that they have a special way to strip them. I don't want to cause them more work.
We hand wash glassware and utensils just before we use them for the first time. We don’t trust they’ve been properly cleaned. We’re also 2, so we don’t use a lot of things on most trips. Things that are going into the oven or on the stove are fine for us.

This had never occurred to me before. I might have to start this practice, too. The thought of some random person previously hand washing the dishes I might be using, instead of using the dishwasher, kinda creeps me out now.
I agree!!! I’m disheartened to hear people are hand-washing AND putting them back in the cabinet. I’ll never trust dishes at DVC villas again.

I really do think Disney should have a posted policy on this, I truly think could help save some time it takes to get rooms ready but in the end it could also end up saving water too. Im happy to load it and start it but Im also happy loading and not starting it if they are just going to re run it anyway. I honestly used to think they just swapped out for clean dishes and didnt bother with running the DW since that takes a long time, it was the ultra late check in that got me thinking about the DW.

I have no clue how true this may be, either now or in 1997 but when we bought the DVC sales rep told us that regardless of how it appeared, part of the cleaning process in every 1BR+ unit is to run the self-cleaning cycle in the oven which takes 4 hours. FWIW

Someone here a few years back reported they opened the oven…. And there was a roast on the rack.

A bit off subject, but I checked into a Poly Tower Theme Park view studio and have a few thoughts. Why on earth to they stock the silverware drawer with table spoons and no small spoons? They are huge. Rather difficult to use for cereal unless you are Jethro. Also, not impressed with the refrigerator. It is turned all the way up and barely chilling. I am afraid my milk will go sour.

Hmm for brand new you'd think the mini fridges would work better.

The spoons are hilariously baffling

I’d let them know about the mini fridge because it’s possible it is broken?

Can’t help you with the spoon situation! lol

I would honestly write them. As its weird though they wouldnt have small ones as a kid for sure isn't using a big spoon.

We always start the dishwasher before we leave when we stay in rooms with a dishwasher.

Weirder to me is that we just stayed in a duo studio at the Polynesian Tower and they supply dishes but no dishwasher and literally no kitchen sink. The only sink available is the sink outside the bathroom so I was very confused if we used dishes if we were supposed to wash them in the bathroom sink? Needless to say we did not use any dishes nor would I use any dishes, not knowing how they were getting cleaned prior to us checking into that room. Yuck 🤮

Yes, we load the dishwasher and run it as we are getting ready to leave and walk out the door.

We are germ freaks and moments after we get into the villa we load as much as we can in the dishwasher and wash everything before using it.

If you get our villa, you are lucky because you are getting a clean villa! We also dishwasher the silverware containers, coffee pots and filter system- ice trays, everything. We sanitize the counters, doorknobs, refrigerator handles, faucets, remotes, everything. We also sanitize the inside of the dryer because I have read in here that people put wet towels and swimsuits in there 🤢.
It all only takes a few minutes. I just don’t fully relax until I know everything is really clean.

I only run the dishwasher if I've been asked to do it (like at other timeshare systems besides Disney). These other timeshare systems often request to put towels in the tub, strip beds and put linens with towels, etc., that I do.

At a DVC resort I usually just leave the dirty dishes in the sink, towels on the floor of the bathroom, bed unmade but not stripped, etc. Similar to how I leave a hotel room.

That’s interesting, maybe we should run that before we leave?
We never get the oven dirty.

Ive been wondering this awhile. How does mousekeeping work with all the real dishes? If a guest didn't load and run the dishwasher do they load and run the dishwasher? Or do they just swap out dirty dishes for clean dishes?

My reasoning behind wondering this is if its the latter, could guests starting it be the reason why some DVC rooms are not ready until so late in the day, if its the former shouldn't they inform guests to start it before leaving? If a guest starts the dishwasher before leaving at 11am that whole load has to run through before the room can be fully ready. Which is quite awhile.
That would explain why we hear that villas take so much longer. My machine at home takes two hours to run a cycle
