Haven't done autographs since I was a kid but I think my 4 year old will love it. What kind of pen/marker? Best place to buy an autograph book? Which characters don't sign?

Planning on doing Tusker House, Hollywood and Vine Disney Jr meal, Ohana breakfast, Akershus, meeting Tink, Anna Elsa, princesses, Darth Vader, Chewbacca.

Vader and Chewie do not sign.

Take a large-sized Sharpie that a character can easily grip. Anything with a large barrel/grip with ink that doesn't smear is ideal.

Buzz doesn't sign but he will stamp (warning the stamp ink did go onto the next page when we closed the pages so you might want to put a blank sheet in next to it until it dries. Mike and Sulley don't sign FYI nor do Vader and Chewie as Hiro mentioned.

As I recall King Louie doesn't sign nor does the Beast if you run into him.

We bought a small spiral bound sketchbook on Amazon and used it for an autograph book. I took clickable Sharpies for the characters to use to sign with.

I brought a 5 pack of multicolor sharpies to have characters sign with. It ended up working really well, and helped separate the signatures from meals vs single character interactions. :)

I had planned to make an autograph book utilizing the talented DISigners on the board, but ended up buying an autograph book when we got there. I purchased it at Disney Springs at "Wonderful World of Memories." There were multiple places in each Park that sold autograph books, too.

The characters we encountered that didn't sign were Cars in HS (I think this is now closed as part of Star Wars land renovation); and Buzz in MK tomorrowland although he did have a stamp.

I made an autograph book. Here's how - http://www.disboards.com/threads/a-simple-guide-to-making-an-autograph-book.2323160/ Many of the characters get very excited about having their own personal page. I was very glad I went through the trouble of making it. The first time we took it to Office Depot and had it bound. This last trip we just brought a little clip board and put the page on that. That seemed to work better because the book was so heavy so you could take only the characters you had a chance of seeing that day and leave the ones at home that were already signed.

We bought autograph books from Amazon. I'll see if I can find them and link to them. They included a waterproof carry case, book and pen. They were great. However, what I would like to do next time is purchase a nice Disney storybook, and have them autograph the book.

I always make my kids autograph books. I use Microsoft Publisher and then I print it out and have Staples put it together for me. The characters get a kick out of it and I find you get a better reaction from the characters. I remember when we saw Tigger he was "bragging" and showing everyone the autograph books and jumping around, lol, it made my kids laugh. We've done the non personalized autograph books before and I definitely found the personalized ones are much much better. I will put the extra time into creating them just to see my kids faces when the characters have awesome reactions to them, lol

Sketchbooks are also great for autographs. The pages are thinker than normal paper so there's no issue with bleed through. I use a 5"x8" bound one from Joann. It has 100 sheets, so there's not much of a limit to the characters you can meet.
And a plus for sketchbooks (or any plain paper really) is that, if your kids want, they can draw a picture of each character they want to meet. It makes for a fun experience.

The clickable sharpies have been the best to use in my experience. No having to worry about losing the cap, or characters getting marked on. I've noticed that the fur characters especially like the click ones since they don't easily have the ability to close a normal marker themselves

i just went to disney, and my 4 year old got the official autograph book. it's $7.95 and available in every disney store everywhere at all the parks.

We went to Hollywood/Vine. They had Doc McStuffins, Handy Manny, Sofia the First and Jake (and the neverland pirates). your kids will know who they are. Went to Crystal Palace, they had the Winnie the Pooh characters. Went to Tusker and they had Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Daisy. The characters at all the restaurants take pictures, high fives, hugs, sign autographs. Whatever you or your kid want. They go around and it takes about an hour for them to go around. Then they do special shows and my 4 year old had a great time with them, marching and dancing. espcially at hollywood and vine.

You can get the regular autograph book at the resort gift shops as well. They're all over the place.

Those fat sharpies are greatly appreciated by the characters who have 'hands' over their hands. The handler will often have you uncap the marker before you give it to the character, although we had a few who instead made sure the lid was kept ON until either the handler or the character undid it (I wish I could remember which characters; there were at least two, but I just cannot recall).

Just be careful to make sure there are enough pages for the characters to sign! We bought two different autograph books while at Disney and my one daughter ran out of pages! We had to start doubling up on the signatures. We used the fat clickable sharpies and they worked well. A couple bled through just a bit but will be covered once we get the pics in.

And DON'T underestimate the ability of the princesses to handle the autograph books in slippery gloves. Years ago, I handed an autograph book to Cinderella as my 3 year old was talking to her. When she started flipping through it to find a blank page, I offered to help her since the gloves seemed to be hindering. She looked at me, smiled, and in a bit of a snarky, sweet voice said, "I can turn pages too, you know." And then she giggled. :smooth:
A moment I'll never forget. My husband and I still laugh about it.

Thanks everyone! You've given me some great ideas and tips
One thing that we did that I loved is instead of a book, we collected autographs on a lunchbox. Dd was in kindergarten during our first trip and was really into the princesses. So I bought a lunch box with 6 princesses on it and we had that signed at our Asherkus princess dinner. We got 5/6 there and chased down Jasmine the next day. Then I only had to carry the lunch box for 2 half days, and we weren't waiting in line for every character we came upon. AND it was an awesome and useful souvenir. She used that lunch box until she was in 3rd or 4th grade! (We'd been on one or two more trips before she gave that princess lunch box up!).

The fat clickable Sharpies work great. Big so the characters grip it and the clickable ones so you don't lose caps. Because once you lose the caps and throw the sharpie in the bag and then it writes all over your bag...........

I made my niece 2 books on shutterfly to use for autographs. One book was for Animal Kingdom/Hollywood Studios and the other for Magic Kingdom/Epcot. There is a shutterfly share page that has a ton of the character pics that made making the book very simple. I did have a couple of generic pages in each, for unexpected meet and greets. The only page we had unsigned when we left was Fairy Godmother. Check kennythepirate.com for updated lists and times of character interactions. He also list which characters do not sign.
