Talk me out of getting a second dog.

Sorry, I can't help you with this one. I have 2 rather big dogs ( both lab mixes) and I think it is great. They keep each other active and keep each other company when we are away from home.

I don't crate mine, so I don't have that problem to deal with. They sleep on the beds and on the living room furniture.

Considering we now have 3, I am not the person to talk you out of it!!

After losing our 15 year old dog a year ago, I was going to be "happy" to be down to just the 2 golden retrievers...and yes, they do entertain each other and I think they would honestly be bored w/o the other one. But we rescued a Shi-tzu last fall and are back to 3. Yes, it is more food, vet bills, but it is also alot of FUN!

Personally, I wouldn't do it. Just keeping my standard poodle,Minky, in food, vet bills, grooming, prescriptions, flea & heartworm meds, vaccines and occasional boarding costs me at least $1500/year or more. He's already 10yo, in fairly good health, but as we all know old dogs, like old people, often require expensive treatment.

We toyed with the thought of getting another dog a couple years ago. Then we went on a long cross-country trip with the kids. We love to travel! The first thing we discovered is that we couldn't really travel with a dog without significantly impacting our own enjoyment. We were in the Southwest--110 degrees. No way could we have left a dog in the car while we went in to eat lunch. I'm really glad we boarded Minky at home, but it cost us an arm and a leg.
