Talk me into it, please!

We took DD at 14 months and again next week at 22 months... do it!! It's seriously the best.

I would take him. Make some memories you can always go back in the future and do the things you missed on this trip. Take your time and enjoy it!

I'm the single mom of a 15 month old. Would LOVE to take him for his first trip to DW in early December when he's 22 mos. Have been there many times myself and know how much I'd have to scale back. In fact, I am thinking we'd really only do MK and take our sweet time. The logical side of me thinks I should wait until he's at least 3 years old but the emotional side of me thinks we have so much to "celebrate" from the past year -- his 1st year, my 40th year (yikes) and finalizing his adoption. Plus, I haven't taken a vacation since 2006. :charac2:

So I am being totally self-indulgent here and want you all to talk me into it. :) Anyone done a mommy and me trip with one that young and survived? I've never been to DW at the holidays -- are the extras enough to keep us entertained and make up for missing some of the big kid rides?

Thanks in advance for your input!

:)
We have taken DS at 14 months and again at 16 months, he'll be 29 months when we go again. Expericing Disney through the eyes of a wee little one is like NOTHING else.

Be very flexiable, take time to enjoy the little things, like a duck or a water feature. You will LOVE it! It's wonderful.

MK is the best for them, they can ride almost everything with you. Our DS also enjoyed the play parks at the various other parks and the boat rides to/from the resorts.

CONGRATULATIONS on adopting - you are a hero! :goodvibes

Hi Brook! Am about 2/3 of the way through your most recent TR and had to tell you how much I am enjoying it. And Henry is too cute for words! I am a little partial b/c I'm a redhead, too, but he deserves every free cookie he gets. :goodvibes

Hehe - I'm a redhead too - you have to go now!! :rotfl:

After my false start with trying to take him last December, I actually have a flight credit in his name -- so he'll be getting a seat. Think I will rent one of those CARES restraints rather than hauling his car seat. Did you rent a car or use DW transportation.

We used the DME - it was great not having to pick up your luggage. (We did have to wait a while in the room for it though, so be prepared for that)

Yeah, I am thinking Pop. I think he'll get a kick out of all there is to see. Did you rent a crib or pack-n-play?

We used their pack-n-plays.

I know everyone has said it before, but seeing their eyes light up when they are toddlers is truly priceless, and it is something that you'll never see again (as they get older).

And thanks kwitcher. After being on these boards for about a year I have realized that in my past trips I have blown by so many of the neat details to get to the rides. Main Street? pffffft. Get me to Space Mountain asap! And I am embarrassed to admit that I have never been in Cindy's castle.

That's why I am thinking we'll focus mostly on MK -- and maybe HS.

I was just as guilty until our trip a few weeks ago. After about 3 years of begging, I managed to talk my DH into taking the kids (2.5 and 6 mon) and the main reason he said yes, was that they would both be free!

We knew going into the the trip that we would be skipping the big attractions, and that forced me to find out all of the "other" stuff to do, and honestly, this last one was my favorite trip out of any other I have taken to WDW or DL. I finally got to "see" it and we had a blast.

We stayed on site, only ate CS meals (with the exception of 1 character breakfast and luncha t T-Rex in DTD) took an afternoon break, and stayed late in the park (my 2.5 yr old is a night owl).

May I make one other suggestion... probably skip DHS. There is very little to do with little ones and it's a concrete jungle. DS loved AK as there were a ton of animals he could see plus he had a great time in Dinoland. He liked it the best of all the parks and is still asking to go back. Just a thought. We spent less than a half day at DH and did everything we set out to do.

Best of luck!

P.S. - Spend the dough!!! You'll only really be paying for yourself in the park, as you can pack the food he'll eat. =)

Not sure what shows your lil one is into, but HS has PlayhouseDisney characters,Jojo, Goliath, theLil Einsteins, Handy Manny.

I say go....itwill be moreof a tripfor you (hewon't remember it) but you will have those memories of him beingso little there!!!

I would also agree with the other posters to go! My parents took my to WDW when I was very young too and they said how much I loved it! And plus, you will have the pictures which are priceless!

Go. He's free. At buffets he can eat off your plate. Don't forget that the parks have the Baby care centers where you can go to just chill out for a few min's if needed and then if you stay on-site you can def go to room for naps and poss pool time. Don't forget he is only little once.

Do it! Do it!!!!!!!!!!!

Heck, even if all you do is walk around taking pics with the characters and watch the parades and shows, it will be a magical trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We did Playhouse Disney LIVE!, Block Party Bash, met Lightning and Mater. That was about all he was in to. By that late in the trip, DS wasn't sitting still well otherwise we would have hit up Muppets.

That's all there was at DHS for us.

As if you don't need more convincing.. here are some of my fave pics from that age :)

Wow -- again, many thanks for the encouragement. I guess I should also take it as a sign that I got my third pin of the year in today's mail. Would be 20% off so about $66/night for Pop. That's cheap in my book!

And Tinker, the photos are killing me! LOVE the matching shirts. There's only so many years that kids will go along with that -- especially boys. And how on earth did you get that middle of Main Street shot?!

Aww, thank you so much! I made our shirts.. they are Mickey Tie Dye.. and I also have ordered matching shirts for us from a website called threadless.com they carry infants/kids/and adult sizes :) DS is 3 now, and lucky for me he still goes along with it!

Ahhh.. yes the MK shot, my favorite WDW tip! If you make a ressie for Crystal Palace at MK when it opens, at 8:05 am.. you can get into the park before it opens! Usually MK does not open until 9am :) I do it every year, and really mainly for the pics! DS is up that early anyway, and they are PRICELESS!

I am soooo glad you are getting good karma for your trip! You will love it! I also have to tell you I have met sooo many friends on The Dis, and there have been times we have met up to eat, etc on our trips! You never know what other momma might be there when you are.. in case you want adult company for a lunch ressie! And of course, when you are at WDW you always make instant friends :)

I'll have to look into the shirts. Really, really cute! Will also have to look into CP. That would be great.

You actually touched on what I think is my biggest concern about the trip: the absence of another adult's company. Did that ever bother you?

No it didn't, but I did have a lunch date while I was there with a CM I am friends with.. AND it was really easy for me to meet new 'friends'. We stayed at Pop, and would often take a break in the afternoon, go to the hotel, take a nap, then hit the pool for a bit. I would just sit near another family, and make casual conversation.. like- Your son/daughter is soo cute! Is this your first trip? And somehow it seemed like we would run into people we had met over the week that way throughout the trip! You are never alone at WDW, even if you are just chatting with another mom! AND be sure you have your neon green ribbon or MM head on your stroller, or backpack, we always run into fellow Disers that way!

Good to know -- thanks. BTW, is your last name Scott? That's mine, too! Not exactly an uncommon name but still...:thumbsup2

haha, no that's my son's middle name! I got the idea from someone who's last name was Scott though :) When we sing the Mickey Mouse club march song to him.. we sing it like.. "Who's the leader of the club that's made for you and me? W E S L E Y S C O T T" haha. Needless to say the two things he can spell are his name, and Mickey Mouse!

I say go, go, go. I too am a single mom, and I think when I was pregnant, I had planned to take my son for his fifth birthday which I did and it was awesome. He's 7 now, and has been 3 times, and I wish I had taken him earlier. You will have a fabulous time. On our first trip, he was very nervous of rides, and mostly we saw some of the shows, and he loved meeting the characters. The last trip in jan it was just the two of us, and it was awesome, because there was noone else we were supposed to meet some where at some time, and we could just do what he wanted, and had so much fun. With a little one, you can just cater to him, and his mood, and go and chill in the resort if he needs a rest.
Happy planning.
