Talk me into Disneyland.....

Jack you were reading my mind....I was thinking the same thing. The less people at DLR the better off we are. When I first read the subject "Talk me into Disneyland" I thought you gotta be kidding me. Just the thought of going gets me excited. No one would EVER have to talk me into going. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Yes Jack, (thanks for asking). We got really lucky, however some right around us were not as lucky. I live in a rather large apartment complex and it looks as if a tornado went through here. Many trees down, some on covered parking places which means many cars destroyed. One HUGE redwood, roots included came down, luckily away from the buildings. We went without power a few times during the day but some are still without power. It was one of the worst storms we had seen in years.

If I've never been, and that's the only week I could go, I wouldn't. Especially if I needed to be talked in to it. It's going to be very crowded that week, and like others, I like it as uncrowded as possible to fully enjoy everything!

We got hit with the storms here pretty bad here too. Unfortunately we had a utility pole (electric) in our yard fall. Apparently it's our responsibility to fix it. Thankfully the way it landed it's going to be safe until tomorrow (had a contractor out last night). We've got a lot of snow on the ground, but that pole coming down is a nightmare. I have no idea what that's going to cost to fix (or replace more than likely!).

Glad to hear your okay, it sure was a bad storm!

Gosh, I never thought my thread would garner so many negative/unfriendly responses. It isn't that I never want to visit DLR it is just that it costs quite a bit for us right now to take our family of 5. I know that no matter where we go we won't be able to take another vacation for several years.

I am also a worrier. I know what to expect from WDW at Christmas. I didn't have any idea about what to expect at DLR. Crowds, attractions, events, etc... I am sorry I started this thread and will look elsewhere for help making this decision.

Thank you to all those who understood what I meant and really tried to help. I greatly appreciate it.

Don't worry, Stephanie - you will make the right decision based on your family and finances and what feels best for you. I have to admit, I am a HUGE Disney freak and Disneyland has been a part of my life since childhood and it has gotten me through many a tough time in life, but the prices steadily rise, and I had to actually abstain from going to the park for SIX years due to serious money issues. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I finally returned this past September and again, two weeks ago, at Christmas time. I can't believe I stayed away for so long, and yet, I HAD to. Now I am facing some yucky stuff again in 2008 but I know I am going to figure out a way to get there by Christmas. And as I said in one of my earlier posts long ago, I have to concur with Tinkermell, Christmas time is the best at Disneyland and Grand Californian is the BEST hotel to stay at during the holidays, bar none. It really is magical in every way, and you won't be disappointed at all. But I understand that familiarity has much to do with it and sometimes it is less stressful to stick with what you know. Believe me, I wish I had been to WDW and its parks four times! Maybe one day! But I really think you should try Disneyland!

Stephane, I think everyone here will give you ideas, thoughts, observations etc, but many people find DLR their hometown resort, the rest are corporate knockoff's.
My family of 6 can not afford to travel- Washington-Flordia and do the things we like to do in Ca. WDW is the largest destination in the world and I think most of us would like to keep DLR more to ourselves and not the rest of the world(no offense meant to anyone else, I have many UK, Assuie and Kiwi firends.)
At least the time have have spent on the boards I have given a number of people heart, especially when I talk about LA traffic.
Read HYdroguy's posts and ask away and you convince yourself about what you want to do and see.
Keep asking and we will give you more help than you in making your decisions.

I admit to being one of the "WDW Veterens" and I have just returned from DL. I never doubted in my mind that we would love the original park, considering the history involved, as that was the main motivation for going. My concern, however, was that the resort as a whole, Disneyland aside, would be a let down because of its location and the lack of seclusion that you have at WDW. Well those concerns turned out to be totally unfounded!

We spent 5 nights at DLR, and never saw the outside world once during that time. We absolutely loved our trip, and can't wait to return. I often thought to myself "I wonder if Walt was here." That is something I have never been able to ask at WDW. We were lucky enough to dine at Club 33, and they had a litho for sale in there of Walt having breakfast in what appeared to be the very same table we had just dined, and it gave me chills (granted this isnt possible because it opened after he died).

Long story short, if you have been to WDW before, then I would give Disneyland a try, as I think you'll love it....

I can understand. Going to WDW would be a huge cost for us, but I have no doubt that I wouldn't love it. I think the phrase "Talk me in to it" is what most people couldn't understand. We can understand having questions about crowds, where to stay, differences between the two resorts... But most won't understand the need to be talked in to going that's all! Good luck with your decision!

Oh my Stephanie!!
I think you got the wrong vibe here.
We really love our DL, and want other WDW vets to like it too.
Please don't leave us.
We are usually really nice to be around. :goodvibes

Stephanie, I think JenDisneylandlver hit the nail on the head when she said it was the phrase "Talk me into it" that set some of us off. I'm so sorry if we misunderstood you! It's just that so many WDW vets talk about Disneyland like it would be going to a country fair compared to WDW and it's so much more than that! We love our Disneyland..even though it may be smaller. I totally understand about the expense. I've never been to WDW because of the cost. I think if you plan your vacation to DLR and DON'T compare it to WDW you'll have a wonderful time...like deej696 did. I hope you choose to stick around! Can we be friends again???:flower3:

I think everyone here agrees with you. I would love to go on about the WDW comparisons and I would love to be able to afford to go to WDW, but I will still stick with the Home Port.

Not politically correct,

Jack

:flower3: Completely understand the cost factor since we haven't been able to experience WDW yet (YET!).

Although when I do think we may be able to afford it, I'm making a mental note not to post a thread titled "Talk Me Into WDW" on the WDW boards. :rotfl:

I hate to be the pessimist here, as I firmly believe that everyone should experience the wonder that is Disneyland, but I'm gonna have to agree with Jen. Christmas week is THE busiest week of the entire year, and if your DH is "not a theme park person" to begin with, chances are the crowds are going to put him in a foul mood, and it might put you in one too. I wouldn't want your first impression of DL to be that of frustration from fighting massive crowds and not being able to see and do everything you'd like. If I were you, I'd hold off on DL until I could go at at a time when it's not so busy. Just MHO. :hippie:
