Ok, not really....I don't need to be "convinced" to stay at the Fort!:goodvibes

But I know NOTHING about the cabins. My Fort experience is limited to campsites and it's been many years at that. I have read all sorts of facts and info on them, but there's nothing like first-hand experience, kwim?

Are the loops fairly quiet? They seem a good distance from most amenities; we'll have our bikes, so are there bike racks at places like the pool, the marina, etc.? (sorry, I should know that but like I said, it's been quite a while!).

We're looking to spend a bit more time at our resort on our next trip, and I think the Fort is great place to do that. I also like the idea of the separate bedroom.....DH and I can get up in the mornings and move about, make coffee and let the kids sleep a bit.

Anyway, plug the cabins for me!!:thumbsup2

.

We stayed in them for the first time July 4th weekend and after 10 years of staying in our motorhome, I was pleasantly surprised.

We were in the 2700??? loop about 1/2 way through and it was very quiet. Almost too quiet. LOL The only thing I didn't like about the cabin loops is that they are too far away from everything IMO.

They're big. I thought we'd be crowded, but there's is a ton of space. There is a queen bed and a set of bunkbeds in the back bedroom with just enough room to put our pack n play behind the bunk beds in front of the bedroom vanity. There's a nice size TV in that bedroom as well. The one bathroom is huge. The kitchen is nice size and has a dishwasher and microwave......stove, oven, coffee maker, and a full size fridge. The have limited utensils, silverware and some dishes. There's a murphy bed with another TV in the living room in addition to the couch. And, just to your right as you enter the cabin, there's a small table, a bench on the back wall and a couple of chairs. The cabin was very clean and very well worth the $$ IMO.

We had the 3 kids and DH and I in the back bedroom. My MIL was in the murphy bed and we could have easily let the kids have a friend with them on each bunk and my FIL would have fit perfectly in the murphy next to MIL.

We always have GC's and don't do much bike riding, but I see bike racks everywhere at the Fort.

We thought the cabins were VERY comfortable and certainly not roughing it in the least. When you find a special rate less than the standard $350, it's even better! We're staying in the cabins for the foreseeable future until we purchase another camper......and, we wouldn't be anywhere else!

We were also there in a cabin over the 4th of July. We had never stayed at FW before. We really enjoyed the space of the cabin. I thought it was quiet too. I think we were either in 2600 or 2400, not sure. We did use a golf cart, which we really enjoyed, so not sure how the distances would be with bikes. I think it would be a nice leisurely ride through the campground. We thought it was very peaceful.

We were a family of five. I thought we'd have the 2 older kids in the bunks, but we ended up putting them in the Murphy bed so we could put the baby down (like pp, in a pack n play btwn the queen and bunks) in the bedroom and not have them wake her up.

We also enjoyed the picnic table on the porch, though our picnic was very brief due to rain. Used the grill to quickly cook some hot dogs. The cabins are very nice and we liked the decor, but they are looking a tiny bit worn. Definitely wouldn't let that deter you, but I was a just slightly disappointed. (I'm a little persnickety, though.) We had gotten a discount on the cabin this summer and felt it was a good value.

We just got back from the cabins and we had ample space. There were 7 of us including a two yr old in the pack in play. So I'm sure you'll have plenty of room. the living area part gets a bit tight with the Murphy bed down but we still had plenty of space. Also it was very quite and the interal bus came by reg. We had lots of fun and really want to go back. We always had lots of towels and sitting on the porch was nice with a cup of coffee in the morn. I think that you'll enjoy yourself.

here we go again.

In case this gets interesting...popcorn::.

Toe-may-toe, toe-mah-toe.

:confused3 Hmm.....what the?? I asked an honest question? Maybe I'm already supposed to know everything about the cabins?..or Fort Wilderness in general?

Now I know why the camping board is separate from the resort board.:sad2:

To the previous posters who gave me courteous, pleasant answers, I do thank you! I appreciate it and that's exactly what was looking for!:thumbsup2

The rest of you can go back to the community board and be obnoxious and generally UNhelpful over there.

Wow...

Okay, now I KNOW it's gonna get interesting.

Now that you know why the camping board is separate from the resort board, do you care to share? Oh could it be that you think FW really isn't a "resort?":snooty:

Often times, people who might typically stay at an "actual resort" and then for some reason, decide or have to stay at the Fort come over here to be convinced or talked into it like FW is a bad thing. I realize you started off with "Ok, not really..." and that's why nobody went off on you. However, we see this a lot and it gets old.

You are not brand new around here. You have a lot of posts and obviously hang out on the Dis quite a bit. I find it odd that you are aware of the obnoxious, unhelpful community board, but you apparently aren't familiar with how to do a search for information on the cabins. BTW, the Community Board isn't necessarily meant for "helping" with camping at FW. It's more for "shooting the breeze" amongst fiends. That's why it's separate from the camping board.

Maybe we jumped the gun and should have cut you some slack. We all LOVE FW; that's why we're here and not on the "resort board." It should be obvious that we're never going to convince or talk someone into NOT staying at Fort Wilderness.

This the the camping board deary. If you are staying in a cabin, you are not camping. You are staying in a portable hotel. You get room service. People gave you pleasant answers. I chose not to because if you have to be convinced to stay at Fort Wilderness, then you shouldn't. No one should be CONVINCED to stay anywhere. It should be your choice. Anytime I see "Convince me to stay at ....." , I just cringe. Why should I bother? If you can't use your own brain to do the legwork and read the boards (which by the amount of posts and your comments about the community board section of our lovely camping forum here) as you do, then frankly why should we do it for you? If anyone is being obnoxious, it is you. If you want to be convinced, please go back to the resort boards, where they convince people to hate and be nasty all the time. I would rather talk about the fort and not convince anyone about anything at anytime.

Liv, I don't think we jumped the gun at all. She got her answers from people who obviously think convincing someone to stay at the fort is a worthwhile cause. I just don't agree that it is worth my effort. Now, if you would like to discuss the aspects of hanging your clothesline from your site and the details of how to abuse a tree, I am all ears. :teacher:

If it annoys you so much that people ask for an opinion, why don't you just ignore it? Why post and be rude? :confused3

because you with your little 12 posts I could understand (and most of us do comply and answer) if you started a thread of this nature

she has over 6,000....usually people who come over here with that many posts from the resort board are only here to start something

...bandcamp must have let out. I enjoyed the cabins very much. If you really want to hit the parks hard its a great retreat. If I wasn't camping (in the politically acceptable definition), I would definately stay in the cabins. Just be careful what loop alley you go down....:lmao:

This the the camping board deary. If you are staying in a cabin, you are not camping. You are staying in a portable hotel.

If that's the case, then this explanation of the forum should be changed:

Explore the offerings of Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. Camping and cabins, all manner of outdoor activities, and Disney classic attractions like Chip 'n' Dale's nightly campfire program and the Hoop-Dee-Doo Review are all discussed in this forum.
(emphasis mine)

I know for a fact that the OP was here only for information. When you ask over on the resorts forum about the cabins (I have), then you often get told to ask over on the camping forum.

The answers of many have convinced me of something, though--I'll leave the RV parked in my yard and not go camping if it all means that I would not be welcomed at the Ft. Wilderness campgrounds.

If it annoys you so much that people ask for an opinion, why don't you just ignore it? Why post and be rude? :confused3

The OP didn't ask for an opinion. She asked to be talked into staying in the cabins. Like I said earlier, this forum sees this a lot. It's as if Fort Wilderness is sub-par when compared to the other resorts. In fact, the OP pretty much stated this when she posted:

Now I know why the camping board is separate from the resort board.:sad2:

The rest of you can go back to the community board and be obnoxious and generally UNhelpful over there.

All I have to say is WOW. Most internet boards have drama, but I guess a good snap into reality is needed sometimes. Even Disney boards have snarkiness!

As a newbie, but a jaded soul that expects the worst at times, I totally did not see the OP being rude or coming here with an agenda, but since we are cabin dwellers at this time, my opinion may not count much. :lmao: This little guy indicates sarcasm. Do we get extra points for roughly 200+ nights in the Fort in a Winnebago in the last 10 years before our last lowly trip in a cabin?? :worship:

Like me or not, I ain't leaving. I love the Fort just as much as anyone else here regardless if I haven't posted more than my little "teen digit" number of postings. And, just for the record, our stays in the cabins for the next 12 or so months is CAMPING to our family just as much as our Winnebago was -- may Sweet Betsy RIP.

And, just so that I'm laying it all out now......ROLL TIDE!

Its just a simple matter of semantics. "whats the pros and cons of the cabins?".."why do you love the Fort?".."i'm a little unsure of staying in the cabins..?" The hostile replies just come across as being an internet bully protecting your virtual property. If your secure in yourself and your lifestyle then you shouldn't get offended. You don't own the Fort.

..my first trip was in '71 with one road in.

Jen is right. I'm tired of the pandering threads that want people to tell/convince/or otherwise-pay-attention-to the poster. If the OP was a normal poster they'd do their own research, find their own info, and then ask a specific question of this group. We love to help and the more detailed, original, and creative the question the better. This group loves that sort of thing. But the OP is being lazy which is why they're being called out as such.

So don't anyone else ask us why we are this way. We've just seen and heard it SO many times that the best action is to head it off and shine the light of truth on it.

That is, until fortwildernessguy (Jim the Magnificent) weighs in....:rotfl2:

Simply, I know the OP has in the past camped at Ft. Wilderness. I don't know about whether it was an RV or what, but I know she camped. She is personally finding the choices for a family of 5 limiting in Disney, and investigated the cabins, having stayed previously at the fort and liking the fort. Her reply was I know a knee-jerk reaction.

Almost every 4th or 5th request on the resorts board for information about a resort is--"Talk me into __________" be it any type of resort location.

I am sorry you all thought she personally though low of Ft. Wilderness. I can assure you she does not. However, the replies she has recieved here has probably turned her away from the fort completely. I know they have for me, another person with a family of five also in the past interested about the cabins. No longer, I assure you, if I am going to feel unwelcome there.

ETA: And I love how people ASSUME the laziness of another person. This is an anonymous board and people are reading too much into her question.
