DIS Dads Talk DVC with the Dis Dads

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I am in, we closed on May 16th with a 135 points @ AKV and are looking to expand in the next year with 20-50 more points.
I am so glad this came up with a smaller group than the huge DVC forum.

Congrats and welcome home. We really liked AKL. Now, the fun begins - planning the next 5 years worth of vacations. Sure, the point charts may change and your travel plans may change, but you can still have fun planning. It keeps me going.

Yeah we are already infor two this year and at least one next year. And as I type we are talking a second vacation next year.

That's what we do. One in April and one in October for next 10 years until dds are out of school. I would like to travel in each month to be able to say my favorite.

I keep fighting the urge to book another Disney vacation. Is there a pill or something for this condition or do I just keep up the cycle of going to Disney.

I want to expand my point ownership so I can go again... I thnik my DW may kill me if I do that. Who needs a new Kitchen over haul when we can go to Disney instead.

Congrats!! or should I say, "Welcome Home!"

No matter how many points you have, you'll always want more. I found myself thinking a day or so ago that if I could just manage to squirrel away a couple hundred dollars each month for the next few years, I could use it to get us some more points!! maybe once the credit card debt is paid off I can actually put that plan into action... darn priorities!! :lmao:

This is so true. In the beginning, you will plan some great stuff with your 135 pts, then after a few trips you will want to step up & do other things you haven't done. We decided to try a 2BR for our family of 4... now my kids don't think they can live without their own BR. Then I tried AKL concierge... now my wife is hooked.
You will have so much fun you will HAVE to have more points :)

Thank You, We are planing to be out of debt soon, beside the house. Even had a plan to buy a small contract with the Tax return, now the DW wants to redue the kitchen and hold off on the extra points. Plus I have been having an issue as to were I want more points, there are so many options BLT to have the closeness to MK and I really like BLT, SSR to have a head start on getting a Treehouse, VGC because I am somewhat of a traditionalist and like DL every few yeas, and there is always Hawaii since we would like to travel there some day. So many chooses, maybe I will get my new job and it will not be an issue.

We already ventured the 2br in November and that is what started to make me think we need more the DW is too afraid of running out of points and is in a hording phase. I am lucky to get her to agree to the 2br with Dm & DGP coming in November. I am sure we will buy up in the future and DW whats to buy up just when is the question.

I love my DW, I love my DW...Ok I am good.:flower3:

I think im going towait to add on until the poly dvc ive heard about must be close to ohana:cool1:

My family and I are in! Everything became final earlier this month. We bought in SSR and are taking our first trip as DVCers this fall!! :goodvibes

For those of you who have bought DVC resale, how much negotiating did you do?

We did negotiate some with the seller. We offered about $5 per point less than they were asking and that they would pay half of due for 2012. They must have been ready to sell because they agreed without a counter offer. So, maybe we should have offered less, but we are satisfied with the price we settled on and are excited to be DVC members! Good luck with your purchase.

Wait for resale. The point price will be $200 a point.

The only cure is another Disney vacation.

We did the 1BR at SSR and it was amazing. It could be better at AKL or BLT with a second bathroom.

Yeah I think I may try again while we are in disney this November. She tends to be on a Disney rocks kick for a while after vacation. So may be we can do the Kitchen and still up our points.

That is a great idea. Kinda the reason Disney has the bounce back offer. You're happy. You're here. Buy more.

Anyone going to wait for the new poly dvc to add points. want to be closer to OHANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Or are you buying in at the Grand Floridian dvc what would be the best

Speculating that GF points will go for $150-175 per point. Plus, I can only imagine the points per night there. If I were to purchase more points, I would buy more at BLT or BWV so I could afford to book a 1 BR there for a week at 11 months out. Lots of BLT resale contracts out there.

I would like to stay at GF and Poly DVC to try them. I also have not tried BCV, VGC, or Aulani. One of these days.

Sounds like I am in same boat as AirGoofy

As much as I would love to own at GF or Poly, I would assume the cost on those points is going to be off the charts. Plus, they will both be small and I am guessing the points needed to book there will be along the line of GCV ... very high.

I know I will probably stay there at some time (or maybe wait a few years until some points show up on the resale market), but buying there will probably not be in the cards... or more accurately, not in the bank account :cool2:

Nice tag Brad. I glad I didn't go to that thread! :)

I guess the other thing for me to consider is that I will be 68 when my BWV contract expires and 87 when my BLT contract expires. I think I'll be around for BWV, but don't think I'll outlive my BLT. GF would just be later. I know you can deed a DVC contract to children in a Will, but I would just assume buy them one or their own if they wanted and I could afford it.
