Talk about an expensive bandaid!!

Remember when my son Kirk fell off the bike at school and the nurse thought he needed stitches? (he hit his chin on the pavement) I took him to the ER and it turns out that he needed nothing more than a bandaid. (if I would of removed the bandage school put on his chin, believe me, I would not of wasted 2 1/2 hrs in the ER! ). I just got a statement from the hospital.................$270.00!! Boy, that sucker was worth it's weight in gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah, must not forget that dab of Neosporin too!

ugh - ER's are so expensive! after an accident moving out of an aprtment in college, one of my big toenails was almost ripped all the way off (hanging by a thread). i had to go to the er because student health couldn't handle it. after a shot of anesthesia, a little snip, and a bandage, i was good to go. the whole procedure took like 10 minutes and yet it cost over $1000!

Oh my gosh, I read that so fast I thought it said "one of my big toes" and I thought "just a little snip, huh?"

That was probably just the ER fee. You'll likely get a seperate bill from a physician's billing company for the doctor's services.

One time we were running errands after our DD's softball game. Her eye became very very very swollen and weird looking. We took her to one of those Care Now places. Of course, by the time the doctor looked at her the swelling was almost gone and he said it must be allergies. $110.

We also had the same issue with my daughter a few years ago.
At the time though, the situation could not have happened at a better time. My daughter was in her first semester of jr. college and had informed her dad and I that she was "thinking about" dropping out of school and working for a year and then going back. Boy did that go over well. She couldn't understand our concern about the probability of her never returning to school. One of my arguments concerned the fact that she would have no health insurance and once she was "dropped" from the policy, she couldn't be added back on later.
It just so happened about 3 days later she fainted at school and had to be taken by ambulance to the local emergency room. She was there under observation for about two and half hours and luckily nothing was found to be wrong with her.
Four weeks later I received the hospital bill to the tune of $2550...for the whole two and a half hours of just watching her.
I presented the bill to my daughter and explained that since she is covered on insurance I only had to pay my co-payment of $25. I asked her if she didn't have any insurance did she have the $2550 to pay since her dad and I didn't have the "chump change" laying around...I think that incident among others helped the "lightbulb go on" and I'm happy to say that she just finished her first year teaching 3rd grade and she absolutely loves it...
