Talk about a Doctor Overcharging!

My 8 yo hurt his finger last month. We had Xrays taken and it showed a fracture. Our chiropractor referred us to an orthopedist so we went to him. We brought the Xrays with us. The Dr looked at the Xrays and felt the finger. He said it was a minor fracture and ordered a splint for 3 weeks. The nurse came and taped on the splint. I see the claim online was billed as surgery. The Dr billed for $2200.00 but was paid $1282.00! To me that is so wrong. Dh thinks maybe they coded wrong but I doubt it.

I don't usually question medical things, but I would probably call the insurance company to confirm exactly what was done. Yes, they could have coded it wrong.

That sounds more like an ER visit charge than anything. Definitely warrants a call to the insurance company.

Ordinarily I'd say all the mumbo jumbo about paying for his knowledge...not sure that is knowledge is worth $2200 in this case.

We had something similar happen. DD got her elbow dislocated. Went to the ER, the PA spent less than 5 minutes in the room, popped it back in and then came in for a second later to make sure she was fine. It was billed as a minor surgery. Come on. At the time, we had a high deductible insurance, but because we had insurance, the insurance only would allow a $200 charge, thank goodness.

No doubt in my mind it wasn't a mistake. The dr saw you had insurance and took advantage of it. It has been done to me and my insurance numerous times. Claiming they did surgury when they didn't, so on.

17 years ago, we were charged $36 dollars for a bandaid (a regular one, nothing fancy) through our insurance. Nothing surprises me anymore.
