Tales of Pixie Dust

About 9 or 10 years ago,we went to a character breakfast buffet at the DL Hotel, and Pocahontas and Meeko came over to our table. Our DD got so excited she knocked her cup of mini M & Ms all over the floor. Pocahontas said, "Don't worry, Meeko will eat those!" Then she grabbed a busboy and said, "Please go get my friend some more mini M & Ms." DD and I talked about how she was a REAL princess, who had very nice manners, but also wasn't shy about giving commands to others. DD has never forgotten this experience.

On our First trip with our kids in March 2005 we were in the Magic Kingdom Barber Shop. Our little boy was getting his first haircut and our DD4 was getting her hair done up with some glitter and blue hair gel. DD was wearing a Cinderella Dress. princess:

Every CM we encountered that evening was sweet to her but while we were in the Barber shop one came in to get his haircut. He was wearing his street clothes but asked DD if she had gotten to meet any princesses yet. We hadn't met any and we were on our way to have Dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table.

After everyone's hair was done, the CM asked us to come with him and he took us to Ariel's Grotto. :wizard: He took us in the exit (so we didn't have to wait in line and miss our ADR) and DD got to meet Ariel. We didn't see Cinderella at the restaurant so that was the only Princess DD got to meet on our trip. DD was enchanted by Ariel!

I tend to be pretty hard on my two boys (4 and 6 then) and often wonder why they can't behave as well as girls. I'm hoping all of you moms of boys understand exactly what I mean by this and that it isn't a slap on boys...just a gender difference. At Disney, the kids were generally good, but of course I tend to focus on the negative much more than I should. It's a trait I'm trying to work on...
Anyway, on our last full day of a pretty good trip, we went to CRT where we sat enjoying the princesses (DS4 is a big Cindy fan). Then fairy godmother came over to our table and asked each of the boys to tell her a wish they had. She miraculously put pixie dust in their pockets too. My younger son said he wanted to have a great vacation with his family and my older said he wanted to try harder not to be selfish. I was shocked that they weren't asking for toys or special treatment. Then fairy godmother came to me and gave me some pixie dust and whispered in my ear, "Those are some pretty special boys you've got, Mom."
I felt both honored and guilty. It was a subtle Disney reminder to me that I need to appreciate their special qualities more and that if strangers can see their wonder, I should look harder for it. It's not just kids who are changed by Disney magic.

We have experienced plenty of Pixie dust while at WDW. This past June were 2 of the most memorable we have ever experienced.

1. We booked BC standard view rooms for our trip with my parents and requested connecting rooms. When we were checking we were surprised with an upgrade to concierge connecting rooms.

2. Our first night there we went to Beaches and Cream to try a Kitchen Sink for dessert. Right after we ordered it, the CM (Jessica) who was getting ready to fix it asked our DS 7 if he wanted to make it for us. After a little coaxing he went behind the counter and Jessica helped him make the Kitchen Sink. The smile on his face when they finished was priceless!!

I still find it amazing that people still don't seem to understand why we go back to WDW time after time. Even after telling them about all the magic that happens, they still look at us like we're crazy for going back. I guess it just keeps the crowds from getting to big.

This is a relatively minor thing, still I thought it was very nice: We always have breakfast one morning at the Kona Cafe at the Poly, no matter what hotel we are staying at. I absolutely LOVE Tonga Toast. One of the CMs at Kona was especially friendly, and we confided that we would come to Disney every year or two if only to have Tonga Toast. As we finished breakfast the CM came back, chatted for a few minutes, then handed me the receipe. I was really surprised and thought that was so nice :goodvibes

Our most magical memory is a 2 parter. We were at MK in October 2005, it was or last morning there. The boys were dressed as Chimney Sweeps in hopes of seeing Mary Poppins at breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. We had our costumes from MNSSHP which was earlier in the week. Well Mary wasn't there but they were able to sneak us into Cinderella's Royal Table for a quick photo op. But we had to wait an hour until breakfast was over at the castle so we hung out on Main ST. We got some amazing pictures in front of the horse drawn trolley and the head of the parade asked if we would be there for the parade that day. Unfortunately our flight was leaving so we couldn't but we said we will be back for xmas. She asked us to bring our costumes back with us.

Fast forward to xmas. We see the holiday parade in costume and Alice makes a bee line for us. Everyone is loving the kids costumes complete with "soot" on their faces. Alice pulls Mary and Bert out of the dance formation to come see the boys. After the parade is over we ask if there is any way we can meet Mary and Bert since they were in the nanny and sweep costumes. They bring us back to Main Street and we got a private meeting with both of them and then we got a special seating area for the second parade where Mary and Bert both made a point to visit again. I don't think I cried that much in my entire life!

I also enjoyed the reaction of the CM's that clean Main Street, they loved the costumes and we also got silhouettes done that day. That day we never left Main Street but we saw the World! :wizard:

I am so loving these stories...

And to think that people wonder why we go back to Disney places again and again??? :p

I always get asked Disney again?! What's so special about Disney?
I tell them about watching Illuminations in April 2005 and it's freezing cold, everyone around us is miserable and my 4 year old DS(Now 5) leans over and whispers Mommy this is the bestest bacation ever. It doesn't get any better than that.

Ok, I have been going WDW since 1977 -ish. There may have been other pixie dust moments that escape me at the moment, but a recent fabulous and tremendously memorable one was at DL wher we are AP's. We had been wanting to ride with the engineer on DL RR. Every other time we have tried, there is always somwone else waiting. This isn't as easy as riding up front on the monorail, for those of you who aren't familiar with it. There are only certain trains that can do it. It is at the engineer's discretion. If they are training or cleaning, it can't be done.
My DD and I were waiting for about 3 trains after asking the conductor who agreed. The Conductor then comnes out and tells us that they are not able to accomodate us now, but come back at 2:30. We come back at 2:20, identify ourselves, and wait again. About 1/2 hour later, they tell us, they are sorry, we will not be able to ride with the engineer, but becuase we waited so patiently, he would escort us in the presidential car of the Lilly Belle that was built for and designed by Walt himself. This is were Walt hosted dignitaries and the like. There are only a few in the country. This is usually reserved for club 33 members and even they have a tough time getting it sometimes. I took pics, but they didn't come out that well. I will try to post them. It made our Disney Year!

That is absolutely priceless. :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

When my DD was 5 we had a character breakfast at the WL with Pooh & friends (its been quite a while ago). Tigger came over and encouraged my daughter to stand up on the bench seats. As soon as the wait staff was out of sight, Tigger and my DD started jumping up and down on the seats to see who could get the most height. Every time the wait staff would appear, Tigger and DD would quickly sit down and pretend nothing had happened (looking all innocent!!). They must have played like this for 10 minutes!
My DD is now 14 and everytime the word "Disney" is mentioned this story is the first thing she mentions!!

This past June we had a few "pixie dust" moments. The main one was one evening when we walked into Epcot and were going to rent a double stroller so we could enjoy the World Showcase without any complaints of sore feet. When we went through the turnstiles, there was a double stroller left just inside with the name tag holder put empty on top of the stroller. It was very obvious that someone had left it there to spread a little pixie dust and so we enjoyed it and tried to spread a little of our own as a thank you. Another moment was when we were at the Crystal Palace for dinner and we were getting all of our pictures and autographs with Pooh and friends. Finally, I got to sit down to my wonderful dinner (overwhelmed from my first experience of a character meal) and I looked out the window directly at Cinderella's Castle. I could even see the Cinderellabration show from my seat! As a mom of two boys who were not as taken with the princesses as I was, this was definitely my "pixie dust" moment.

2004 we were shopping on Main St (what a surprise) and went into the glass blowing shop. they were selling mickey and minnie mugs, ingraving included and FREE SHIPPING for like $8.

Me, DD and DM each got one and had them shipped home as our souvenir and I drink my morning coffee out of them everyday.

Ok I have 2. My husband and I took our son in 2002 for a 1 day visit to the MK. It was hot hot hot and crowded. We were not at all prepared but we had a good day nontheless. Anyway. We were in line to see the characters from Pooh. Well we are in line and of course the close off the line just as we are approaching. So we sit and wait until it is our turn. Well Tigger comes BOUNCING around the corner and the CM takes the chain down. Tigger grabs a hold of my son's hand and starts pulling him away. Ryan looks back at us like "I don't know if this is ok!" We smile and urge him to go. Well 2 seconds later they are in their own world (Tigger and Ryan) and skipping along together to the autograph area. Very cool.
Another is a memory with Mickey. We (again) were in line to meet Mickey. My son is not shy and never has a problem talking. We go up to see Mickey and he just kind of stops in his tracks. He walks up slowly just in awe the entire time. We take pictures do the hug thing and leave. A minute or so after we are outside he turns to us and says "Mom, Dad, I have to tell you Mickey is SO cool. He does just about anything for anyone!" Then back off into la la land he went for the next 5 minutes or so.
Yeah moments like those are priceless. And sorry for being so long winded!

Loving this thread..nice to read the good stuff! And hoping to have a few moments of my own to share in a few weeks!

I don't know if this qualifies as a pixie dust moment, but our favorite WDW moment was our last trip in Feb. 05, which was the first trip with Dad's guide dog along. We really wanted to get a picture of Newley with Pluto, so I asked a CM at MK and found out where to find Pluto next. The characters were about to come out from near the castle, and I went up and told another CM "handler" who was waiting where the characters would be. He smiled and told us to "wait over there by that tree."

Okay, this tree was about 50 feet away and just kinf of by itself, and we felt pretty silly standing all the way over there seemingly in exile. LOL Then here came the characters, Pluto among them. The CM whispered something to him, then guided him our direction. When Pluto got semi-close, he actually got down on all fours and crawled the rest of the way, so as not to scare Newley. He must have stayed there and interacted with Newley and us for a good 10-15 minutes, and it was just so sweet. Newley did seem a bit wary about that huge orange dog, though... lol... but we can't wait for them to meet again! :)

((Notice Newley sporting his lime green DIS ribbon on his harness! :teeth: ))

That is officially the sweetest thing I've ever seen.

Something that just sticks out my mind wasn't really a moment - more like a series of moments...

During The Osborne Festival of Lights, they were playing Jingle Bell Rock and people were dancing in the "homemade" snow in the middle of the street. I didn't think I would get out of there without bursting into very un-villain like tears (I pride myself on being my very own Disney villain :p).

ITA!!! Your Post brought tears to my eyes. I love WDW!!!

I love this thread. I was getting discouraged from all the negative ones lately. This has been very uplifting. I have cried more than once reading these great stories. Here are a couple of mine.

1. Sept. 2004, my mom, sister and I take our 7 kids to WDW. We have been a few times before, but never with preparation or planning. I didn't know about the character greeting in Toontown at MK. (I know that's shocking). Anyway my mom and sister are resting and I decide to take the kids through Mickey's house. We then follow the trail to the judges tent. There are no people, no line so I am wondering if anything is back there. We entered the tent and still no people. There are a couple of CMs standing there and it dawned on me that this is where we could see Mickey. (this was my 4th trip to WDW and I had never seen Mickey) I asked if Mickey was there, they said yes around the corner. We walked around and I was speechless. Mickey was standing there with a CM. The kids walked right up got pictures taken and hugs. It was so much fun.

2. May 2005, We were ready to leave the park (MK), but decided to stay for the 3:00 parade. We have 5 children oldest is 8 and a babysitter with us. We got great seats right on the curb. As the parade starts characters are walking right in front of us shaking my childrens hands and hugging them. I was having so much fun watching them and almost crying. Then I feel someone tugging my hand, I just assumed it was one of my children. I turned to see what they needed and it was Minnie Mouse. I turned into one of my kids after that. I kpet saying Minnie shook my hand. It was one of the best surprises.

I know moments like these happen all the time, but it is so special when it finally happens to your family.

Hey Everybody - thanks for the great pixie dust stories...here's mine...

Our 2nd trip to WDW April 2005 with DS (4 at the time) - arrived at MK early with everyone else and were selected to OPEN THE PARK!! We were stunned!! We got to ride a truck through to the RR and were told to wait. Around the corner came Alice, MadHatter, Pluto, Chip & Dale, Mickey and Minnie!! We rode to Main Street station and were told to smile really big because so many people were there to have a good time. Our family was introduced to the crowd and we got to throw the pixie dust with Mickey to officially open the park. It was amazing! We also received a certificate signed by all the characters as the "official gate keeper".

Now for the truly magical part...at the end of that same day, we were leaving MK and Mickey was going on a break - now everyone knows when their handlers are taking them off, they don't stop - they must keep them moving. Well, my sweet little boy yelled out "Mickey, don't you remember me? I opened the park with you this morning!" - With that, Mickey stopped, turned around and pointed to his head (like, I remember you!) then knelt down and held his arms open for my son. I was crying like crazy - I thought it was the sweetest thing I had ever seen...

We will always go to Disney - the magic seems to grow each trip....

Just returned from a FABULOUS 9 day stay yesterday!

We had a few great pixie dust moments as we always do on our WDW trips. Here are some of the highlights from this trip:

* Dale proposed to me at LTT (that was the best interaction we've ever had at a character meal by the way). He was being really, really silly with us ... rubbing my dh's head with his napkin, doing silly things in pictures, but what cracked us all up the most was when he got down on one knee in front of me and held out his hand. I said "Dale, are you proposing to me?" He shook his head yes and I giggled like a schoolgirl. I had to break his heart gently though and I told him I was already married and showed him who my dh was. He then fell on the floor and pretended to faint! After he revived himself, he then went to my dd10 and faked a proposal to her too. She said she was too young to get married and he marched out of the room like he was mad at all of us. It was hilarious. I only wished we had a video camera along.

* My dh lost his ticket at MGM. He lost it sometime after getting fastpasses for RNR. We were frantic because they were our 10 day non-expiry tickets and we knew we had like 4 days left on them. We went to Guest Relations and they were SOOOOOO nice! They said it happens all the time and they immediately reissued him another ticket to match the tickets from the rest of our family. Then, we went to RNR to use our fastpasses and my dh asked the cm working there if maybe he had left it in the machine ... they had it right there. The new ticket was valid and the old is now just a souveniur for us :goodvibes

What we thought could have ruined our trip turned out to only be a minor inconvenience becaue of the wonderful cm's at WDW!

*For my dd10, meeting Alice in Wonderland at our 1900 Park Fare breakfast on our last day. DD10 played Alice in a play last January and she has been fascinated with her ever since. She told this to Alice when she met her and she was so kind and sweet to our dd10. DD10 felt like Alice was her best friend after that encounter. It was so sweet and magical :wizard:

Let's keep this thread going ... it is so awesome to hear about all of the pixie dust flowing at WDW!!!

My pixie dust happened several years ago. When we first took my youngest daughter she was too small to ride Splash Mountain however, Brer Fox came around and gave her a certificate saying as soon as she was big enough to ride it to just present the certificate to a cast member and she wouldn't have to wait in line. By the next year she was big enogh to ride it. The first few times we went to the MK we totally forgot it but the last time we went something happened to it where we didn't have it by the time we got to SPlash Mountain. However, I told the CM about it, let her know this was our last day and our last trip. The CM got her boss and explained the situation and they upheld the certificate without us having it! It really made the whole trip!
