Do you take them at the same time every day?

My husband's doctor told him to take his AM meds one hour before breakfast and he won't eat for exactly one-hour after taking it...I told him that eating a few minutes before the hour is up would probably be ok.... opinions?

A few minutes probably won't make a difference which is why the Rx says one hour and not 60 minutes. But if he wants to wait exactly 60 minutes there's no harm being done.

:( I despise the fact that I'm now on daily meds and have a bit of a mental block about it, so to actually get them down I do have a routine, so I don't forget. Nothing I take is quite as fussy as your DH's, but I do roughly follow the instructions. There is one that is to be taken with food. The pharmacist explained it's to buffer against stomach upset. I sometimes take it without food because it doesn't cause that problem for me.

Good to follow the doctor's advice, but I doubt there is any pill you take at home that requires exactly a specific amount of time before/after eating. Pills taken at meal times I am most familiar with is to prevent an upset stomach that might impact some but not others are mentioned above.

One morning pill is at least an hour before eating......I take it when I get up.
Others are taken with food, I do that.
One has to be 15 minutes before eating
The rest it doesn't matter, but 2 are before bed.

I wouldn't argue with my husband about following doctor's orders. It's good that he's conscientious enough to do that. The real problem is when they won't follow doctor's orders at all.

I take my meds sometime in the morning each day. My thyroid medication would be more optimal if I took it an hour before eating, but since my work starts at 7:25 each morning, that would require me to wake up waaay too early for my comfort, so I don't bother. I don't think it's critical for me, though. If I were more worried about it, I would find a way to be that precise.

There are at least two common medications I can think of that should be taken in the morning before eating, and those are levothyroxine (synthroid) and PPIs like omeprazole. They get absorbed better on an empty stomach. There are some others that are less common that most wouldn’t be likely to see.

Yep, I set my alarm an hour early to take synthroid, then go back to sleep. New endocrinologist is gradually weaning me off it, hopefully won't have to do that any longer in 3 months!

I, myself, am bad about it.  I should be better.

I take a bunch of pills every day. I have an alarm set on my phone to remind me to take them at the same time every day.

I take my doctors orders not my spouses. Unless it happened that my spouse was a doctor

that said. if it’s one hour and I’m grabbing breakfast in 55 min I don’t sweat it. No more than if it’s 75 min

It takes me an hour to get ready so in my 15 years of taking it I’ve never had a problem. I get up, take meds, get ready and by then it’s been an hour or more some days

Lucky you to get off it one day. My thyroid was eliminated with iodine so no hope for that here

Never had any restrictions on my medicines and eating. But I would do what the Doctor says. Now that I am retired I get up, take my meds, check my blood sugar and blood pressure immediately, but I may not eat for a couple of hours. When I worked, I got up, did all that including eat, and was at my desk at work within the hour.

No restrictions on the 3 I take daily either. As soon as I get up in the morning, I stagger into the kitchen, grab a bottle of water & take the pills. If I don't do that I will forget. Never eat until way later tho only because I'm not a morning eater, lol.

I am bad about my Synthroid. Ambian has to be on empty stomach, too, so it kills having a bedtime snack. So there's that :)

I take omeprazole in the morning before eating (if I forget until after I will feel it all day long).
I take BC at night before bed. I'm not strict about doing it at the exact same time every day because it's to regulate periods and stop me from bleeding to death, not for contraception.

Those on Synthroid and the like--Ask your PCP/endo about switching to afternoon, schedule permitting.

DH simply can't wake up an hour earlier due to leaving for work at 5:00 a.m. We eat breakfast shortly after 4:00 a.m. as is.

His endocrinologist said as long as he can maintain while taking it at 4:30 p.m. daily, that's okay. He's done that for 5 years, no issues.

I wake up, pop my blood pressure pill, brush my teeth, take a shower, and head to work.

Weekends throws a monkey wrench in that schedule and I forget on weekends to take it. I currently have a few pills left, a full bottle now that I picked up last month, and I'm waiting any day now for Walmart to text that my prescription is ready to pick up for this month.

I would like to tell them now to skip a month, but then I think they'll forget about it entirely.

I've been waiting for the text, then waiting for the text that tells me I have until XX/XX, then I go and pick it up. Last month was the 10th, this month they haven't texted yet so I'm wondering if it will be the 18th since I waited last month until the 18th to pick it up.
