Taking Winnie on a Wonder Cruise - A February Mexican Riviera Trip - All wrapped up 6/14

OK folks, now I know that I am updating fairly rapidly, but I have an ulterior motive. In 25 days I leave for a trip to WDW and I plan to write a Trip Report for that one as well. Plus I have an extra special event coming up in May which will also definitely deserve a TR, so I need to keep the pace going so as not to get too far behind or have three TRs going at once! So here we go with another update.

It was our day in Cabo, and since it is a tender port (you need to climb onto smaller boats to get to shore), we opted to stay on the ship. We enjoyed a nice lunch in Tritons and decided to check out the ship a little afterwards. We explored the adult area which was closed at the time. Now it’s called After Hours. It used to be called Route 66, but now it had a classier vibe to it.

As we were in the corridor, the elevator stopped and the door opened. Karin, Tom, and Jill were coming back from their excursion. They waved to us from the back of the very full elevator. We had planned to go up to Deck 9 and ended up meeting Jill up there. I went to Sulley’s Sips, while she ate some chicken tenders since she had been whale watching all morning.

z23WC0227CD26.jpg

I noted for future reference that you could get a Dole whip, but never ended up partaking.

z23WC0227CD27.jpg

I got a DotD (Drink of the Day). It was a Tequila Sunrise and quite tasty! The bartender actually mixed it there, often times at this bar, they have it premixed, but this one she layered and everything.

z23WC0227CD28.jpg

We got some fruit from Daisy's Deli-ghts and took it back to the room. We also noted that they were serving the same two soups that were on the menu for lunch at Triton's. There were a lot of options for sandwiches as well, but Fran was just interested in fruit for a snack later.

z23WC0227CD29.jpg

I got the laundry from the dryer and put it away while she took a nap. I continued The Force Awakens and eventually got her up to go meet a few characters. First was Chip and Dale. Everyone loved my shirt, even the characters were pointing at it and making gestures. If you can't read it, the shirt says "Eat.....Cruise......Eat More". That was pretty much what we were doing this week!

z23WC0227CD30.jpg

Then we met Captain Mickey.

z23WC0227CD31.jpg

And finally Donald.

z23WC0227CD32.jpg

z23WC0227CD33.jpg

Once we finished with the characters we were far enough away from port that the on-board shops could open. We did some damage there, purchasing a couple shirts and two pairs of earrings for me.

z23WC0227CD34.jpg

z23WC0227CD35.jpg

z23WC0227CD36.jpg

Then we came back to the room. She laid down and I finished watching the Force Awakens. After about an hour I got her up for Dinner. Tonight it was was at Tiana's.

z23WC0227CD38.jpg

z23WC0227CD39.jpg

Before the food came out, Tiana came out and did a little bit of a “show”. This is what I could see. You’d think she could have moved around the stage or the room a little so those of us with a post in the view could have seen her. I'm not bitter or anything!

z23WC0227CD40.jpg

We both ordered the Hot crab dip

z23WC0227CD41.jpg

They didn’t give me enough bread croutons, but Fran gave me the ones she didn’t eat and it was perfect.

z23WC0227CD42.jpg

Also we both had the Mushroom soup, it was quite tasty.

z23WC0227CD43.jpg

Between the courses Louis makes an appearance, and he has the sense to mill around the tables so everyone gets to see him and have a photo op.

z23WC0227CD44.jpg

z23WC0227CD45.jpg

Fran had the turkey dinner, I’m pretty sure she liked it.

z23WC0227CD46.jpg

I had the shrimp served over jambalaya rice. The shrimp were a tiny bit overcooked, but then it’s hard to get them perfect when you’re cooking that many. They were still pretty good. Also the Jambalaya Rice wasn’t spicy at all. For me that’s a good thing, I think I ate all of this, it was a perfectly sized portion.

z23WC0227CD47.jpg

And Louis came back for another appearance!

z23WC0227CD48.jpg

I thought the cover of the dessert menu was just so cute!

z23WC0227CD49.jpg

z23WC0227CD50.jpg

z23WC0227CD51.jpg

This is the Cafe au Lait Martini, it was super good!

z23WC0227CD52.jpg

For dessert Fran had the Banoffee pie,

z23WC0227CD53.jpg

I had the tiramisu, it was kind of a strange sort of Tiramisu, not like I’d had before. Tasted fine, just a weird presentation.

z23WC0227CD54.jpg

z23WC0227CD56.jpg

When we got back to the room, we had another cute towel animal. I changed the dressing and we went to bed.

Since when does your DS pick vacation destinations? :rotfl2: Isn't he old enough to go on his own? Just kidding. He is a University now, right? Japan would be fun too. We've looked there as well.

Believe it or not......DS turns 23 this year. Where does the time go???

Yeah. He's doing his honours year at university this year.
And.......he's done Japanese to university level. So, I kinda HAVE to take him to Japan if I want someone who can translate to go with me. :rotfl2:

On the ships with Palo and a second adult specialty restaurant the specialty restaurant offers a mid day dessert sampler option where you get about six desserts and optional beverage pairings. Of course this is by reservation only and extra $'s.
Worth it.
In 25 days I leave for a trip to WDW
Wonderful! Fran going too?
and I plan to write a Trip Report for that one as well.
Yuss...
Plus I have an extra special event coming up in May which will also definitely deserve a TR,
popcorn::
It was our day in Cabo, and since it is a tender port
Immediately my mind came up with a joke/pun... and I can't post it here!
Well... I could... and get banned.
Pretty chandelier.
I noted for future reference that you could get a Dole whip, but never ended up partaking.
I'll take mine sans rum, thanks.
I got a DotD (Drink of the Day). It was a Tequila Sunrise and quite tasty! The bartender actually mixed it there, often times at this bar, they have it premixed, but this one she layered and everything.
mmmm... yes please.
If you can't read it, the shirt says "Eat.....Cruise......Eat More". That was pretty much what we were doing this week!
 Appropriate cruise-wear.
Then we met Captain Mickey.
 Who's driving the boat??????
Very nice! :thumbsup2
Given that it's a cruise... I at first read that leading appetizer as "Sliced Gravol"

Before the food came out, Tiana came out and did a little bit of a “show”. This is what I could see. You’d think she could have moved around the stage or the room a little so those of us with a post in the view could have seen her. I'm not bitter or anything!
:sad2: Really should know better. Wonder if she was new?
We both ordered the Hot crab dip
I went through the menus and made my choices... so far I'm one for one.
Also we both had the Mushroom soup, it was quite tasty.
Two for two...
Between the courses Louis makes an appearance, and he has the sense to mill around the tables so everyone gets to see him and have a photo op.
:rolleyes2
Fran had the turkey dinner, I’m pretty sure she liked it.
Uh oh...
I had the shrimp served over jambalaya rice.
Nope. Neither of those. I picked the Trio of Veal
This is the Cafe au Lait Martini, it was super good!
Nicely presented.
For dessert Fran had the Banoffee pie,
Nope. Again. I'm slipping.
I had the tiramisu, it was kind of a strange sort of Tiramisu, not like I’d had before. Tasted fine, just a weird presentation.
And nope to that too. That Louisiana Root Beer Creme was too interesting sounding to pass up.

And yes... that's a weird looking Tiramisu.
When we got back to the room, we had another cute towel animal
Like that one too. :)

Believe it or not......DS turns 23 this year. Where does the time go???

Yeah. He's doing his honours year at university this year.

Wow! I knew he'd grown up. I remember when you stayed with us he was at the age that you could still bribe him with screen time!

And.......he's done Japanese to university level. So, I kinda HAVE to take him to Japan if I want someone who can translate to go with me. :rotfl2:

Well then that totally makes sense. Two of my friends have their kids in Japanese immersion schooling. Half their day is in English the other half in Japanese. At 6 and 12 they are pretty much fluent now.

now it had a classier vibe to it

Wow! It looks amazing.
I love the Disney cruise line ships. Shame I get so sea sick that it's not worth me getting on one. Maybe one day I'll see if their cruises align for an inside passage or a norway fjord one.

I got a DotD (Drink of the Day). It was a Tequila Sunrise and quite tasty!

Love the sunrise colours!

go meet a few characters.

And make full use of your photopass! :teeth:

the shirt says "Eat.....Cruise......Eat More".

Love this!

And finally Donald.

Still my favourite.
Love his costume.

purchasing a couple shirts and two pairs of earrings for me.

Those earrings are gorgeous. What was the other one you got?

Tiana came out and did a little bit of a “show”. This is what I could see. You’d think she could have moved around the stage or the room a little so those of us with a post in the view could have seen her. I'm not bitter or anything!

How rude! You'd think they would know that they needed to move around so that guests could get a full picture of them!

I had the tiramisu, it was kind of a strange sort of Tiramisu, not like I’d had before. Tasted fine, just a weird presentation.

Must be the no sugar thing. :rolleyes1

Wonderful! Fran going too?
Oh course she is. She hasn't been able to live without me for 20 years!
Can you guess what the title will be?
Immediately my mind came up with a joke/pun... and I can't post it here!
Well... I could... and get banned.
I think I might have some idea. :rolleyes1
I'll take mine sans rum, thanks.
I knew that. :snooty:
mmmm... yes please.
It was very tasty!
 Appropriate cruise-wear.
:thumbsup2
 Who's driving the boat??????
Goofy of course!
Very nice! :thumbsup2
Thanks! She got me two pairs!
Given that it's a cruise... I at first read that leading appetizer as "Sliced Gravol"

Had to Google..... :rotfl2:
:sad2: Really should know better. Wonder if she was new?
:confused3
I went through the menus and made my choices... so far I'm one for one.
Two for two...
Good choices.
Uh oh...
Nope. Neither of those. I picked the Trio of Veal
That was my second choice. I had to think a while. (Almost used another phrase which replies to could have gotten someone banned.)
Nicely presented.
And tasty (and potent!)
Nope. Again. I'm slipping.
That's OK, that one didn't sound very good to me.
And nope to that too. That Louisiana Root Beer Creme was too interesting sounding to pass up.
Now see I took this picture and even prepared it and uploaded it to photobucket, but once I got to inserting the pictures into my document I thought, "Why did I even take this picture?" Perhaps I was considering ordering it, but when I looked at it last week it didn't look very good at all. But I took it for you @pkondz !

z23WC0227CD55.jpg

And yes... that's a weird looking Tiramisu.
I wonder if it had to do with plating it for multiple people, making it in a square pan you wouldn't be able to cut it for a nice presentation, and making it in an ice cream sundae style dish would confuse the servers. I guess I'll never know.
Like that one too. :)

We had a pretty talented cabin steward!

So I have to chime in on your food choices. I have been reading along but I just don't comment very much but keep up the trip reporting and I will keep up the reading.
Fran had the turkey dinner, I’m pretty sure she liked it.

z23WC0227CD46.jpg
That is what interested me on the menu as well. Looks lovely.
I thought the cover of the dessert menu was just so cute!

z23WC0227CD49.jpg
Yes and I notice that she a leftie so a girl after my heart.
For dessert Fran had the Banoffee pie,

z23WC0227CD53.jpg
I would have picked that as well so except for the appetizers what Fran picked is what I would have picked. I probably would have had the asparagus and the caesaer salad.

Believe it or not......DS turns 23 this year. Where does the time go???

Yeah. He's doing his honours year at university this year.
And.......he's done Japanese to university level. So, I kinda HAVE to take him to Japan if I want someone who can translate to go with me. :rotfl2:
I am trying to learn Japanese and have the highest respect for everyone who learned that language at university level!! I have done an online evening course for 1.5 years now and can barely say my name and where I am from…

Wow! It looks amazing.
I love the Disney cruise line ships. Shame I get so sea sick that it's not worth me getting on one. Maybe one day I'll see if their cruises align for an inside passage or a norway fjord one.
Well the Wonder has been doing the inside passage to Alaska for quite a few years now. That cruise is quite smooth I don't remember having any difficulty on that one.
Love the sunrise colours!
You'll see more in the next update, but not in a drink!
And make full use of your photopass! :teeth:
::yes::
Love this!
Everyone who saw the shirt really liked it from the waiters, to the gift shop personnel, bartenders, etc.
Still my favourite.
Love his costume.
Donald even liked the shirt. He pointed his finger at each word and then laughed, or should I say mimicked laughing.
Those earrings are gorgeous. What was the other one you got?
Another pair of the same. One to use and one to lose as she says!
How rude! You'd think they would know that they needed to move around so that guests could get a full picture of them!
I know!
Must be the no sugar thing. :rolleyes1
You may be right! The dessert I had on embarkation day was also dome shaped. I wonder if they do that so the servers can easily identify the desserts perhaps all no sugar desserts are done shaped. Brilliant! I don't think I ordered any other sugar free so I doubt we will know.

We explored the adult area which was closed at the time. Now it’s called After Hours. It used to be called Route 66, but now it had a classier vibe to it.
I'm old enough to remember the Route 66 theming!

I noted for future reference that you could get a Dole whip, but never ended up partaking.
What??? This seems like a violation.

Everyone loved my shirt, even the characters were pointing at it and making gestures. If you can't read it, the shirt says "Eat.....Cruise......Eat More". That was pretty much what we were doing this week!
That is pretty great.

I like that shirt! It's a fun one.

You’d think she could have moved around the stage or the room a little so those of us with a post in the view could have seen her. I'm not bitter or anything!
Demand a refund! This instant!

Between the courses Louis makes an appearance, and he has the sense to mill around the tables so everyone gets to see him and have a photo op.
Louis >>> Tiana. Got it.

I had the tiramisu, it was kind of a strange sort of Tiramisu, not like I’d had before. Tasted fine, just a weird presentation.
Huh. Yeah, that does look really weird. Almost like a zebra dome.

So I have to chime in on your food choices. I have been reading along but I just don't comment very much but keep up the trip reporting and I will keep up the reading.
I'm glad you chimed in on the food choices!
That is what interested me on the menu as well. Looks lovely.
We have turkey so much at home that I'm happy to have anything else when we're out. Fran loves it and wants me to make it more often!
Yes and I notice that she a leftie so a girl after my heart.
I didn't notice that! Good eye!
I would have picked that as well so except for the appetizers what Fran picked is what I would have picked. I probably would have had the asparagus and the caesaer salad.

I like hearing what other people would have ordered. I looked at the menu and the choices I made were the only ones that I would have wanted. I forget what was in the salad that I didn't want it, but for Hot Crab Dip just sounded so yummy and it was!

I am trying to learn Japanese and have the highest respect for everyone who learned that language at university level!! I have done an online evening course for 1.5 years now and can barely say my name and where I am from…

It's funny, I've learned three languages. English which obviously I have spoken from birth. I started German in the 6th grade and continued it through High School. I don't remember which year I stopped but I probably studied it for about 5-6 years. We just got to the point where we could talk in past tense when I discontinued it.

In College I took two semesters of French (part of a requirement for a Music History sub major).

When I was in Europe 30 years ago which language did I remember best? The French that I had only 4 years before? Nope. The German that was drilled into me in my youth and teen years! I can't even imagine trying to learn a new language now!

I can count to 10 in Japanese, say basic greetings, and tell a Sushi chef that "It has been a great feast!" :rotfl2:

I'm old enough to remember the Route 66 theming!
It wasn't that long ago.....
What??? This seems like a violation.
Sorry! :duck:
That is pretty great.
:thumbsup2
I like that shirt! It's a fun one.
Hopefully she wears it and doesn't just put it back in the closet like all the other shirts that she buys.
Demand a refund! This instant!
I'm going right to Guest Services!
Louis >>> Tiana. Got it.
:thumbsup2
Huh. Yeah, that does look really weird. Almost like a zebra dome.
Which I can have in about 24 days!

Oh course she is. She hasn't been able to live without me for 20 years!
Had a feeling you'd say that...
Can you guess what the title will be?
Winnie meets Winnie?
I think I might have some idea. :rolleyes1
:rolleyes1
I knew that. :snooty:
I knew you would. ;)
Goofy of course!
phew! That's a relief.... wait...
That was my second choice. I had to think a while. (Almost used another phrase which replies to could have gotten someone banned.)
Now see I took this picture and even prepared it and uploaded it to photobucket, but once I got to inserting the pictures into my document I thought, "Why did I even take this picture?" z23WC0227CD55.jpg
That is not at all what I had envisioned. Still... probably would've ordered it and gone "What??"

Had a feeling you'd say that...
Well ever since she got the RA diagnosis she hasn't been able to put on her own shoes. I think that was 1997. So when I had to travel for work back then, she just came with me. It was better just to pay for her airfare to come with me than to figure out how she could stay hone.
Winnie meets Winnie?
Nope. Even more basic than that. You'll just have to wait.
I knew you would. ;)
Yeah you and rum don't mux.
phew! That's a relief.... wait...
That is not at all what I had envisioned. Still... probably would've ordered it and gone "What??"
You could have asked for something else, but they wouldn't have taken that back so you might as well eat it.

Long time…
Nope. Even more basic than that. You'll just have to wait.
Win for Winnie?
Yeah you and rum don't mux.
Nope!
You could have asked for something else, but they wouldn't have taken that back so you might as well eat it.
Probably tastes better than it looks

I noted for future reference that you could get a Dole whip, but never ended up partaking.
Ohhh did any of the group have? Assuming same as parks?
DotD (Drink of the Day). It was a Tequila Sunrise and quite tasty! The bartender actually mixed it there, often times at this bar, they have it premixed, but this one she layered and everything.
Yum! I always appreciate a drink special that is properly mixed- for example a real Long Island- super tasty when mixed properly
z23WC0227CD34.jpg

This is so cute!
z23WC0227CD35.jpg

For some reason this reminded me of that super cute Epcot tank you got!
z23WC0227CD36.jpg
One to wear one to lose.
Tiana's.

z23WC0227CD38.jpg

Lentil soup for me I think
z23WC0227CD39.jpg
I love turkey, but probably would have gone with the Mahi as I don’t exactly live near quality fish
anything!

z23WC0227CD40.jpg
Umm wow- that just doesn’t work at all!
he has the sense to mill around the tables so everyone gets to see him and have a photo op.
Thankfully!
This looks good, other than the dressing looks super weird, but homemade dressing is soon different than mass produced
z23WC0227CD49.jpg

z23WC0227CD50.jpg

Mmm that martini sounds good!
z23WC0227CD51.jpg
I literally would order any of those, other than maybe the almond cake. Good night for me for dessert!
Annnd good to hear it was good!
Tasted fine, just a weird presentation.

Agree, odd looking, but I guess if all the elements are there.
we had another cute towel animal.
Super cute! I hope when we get Makenna on a Disney cruise that there are still cute towel animals 😁
