Taking walk ups at Skippers Canteen today?

Why don't they kick people out for that? If I walked up to someone and pushed them over and walked away I can guarantee that I would be removed from the park. How is this any different. A hazardous person is hazardous whether walking or riding. My mother rides a scooter and we help control her speed and route. I know this subject is taboo but bodily damage is well beyond the disability use of ECV

Very sorry to hear about Rusty's accident, but can anyone answer the OPs question? Is Skipper in its soft opening phase?

1) We went there to check on the Soft Opening.
2) Alas, while still on Main Street, I was literally run over by an old woman on an ECV.
3) I was knocked to the ground and struck the curb.
. . . have a badly bloodied and sore left knee, and a wrenched back
. . . am walking on crutches
. . . fortunately, a CM was very handy and came to my rescue
. . . he inquired about my condition even before I had a chance to sit up
. . . then, he took me to First Aid
4) Will, have to wait a few days before I am brave enough to venture into MK, again.
Oh No Rusty! I'm so sorry, but the thought that crossed my mind reading that was instead of Grandma got run over by a reindeer Rusty got run over by a grandma! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

sorry to hear about your accident.

Some people rent the ECV and have never used them before NO excuse for not seeing if you are alright.

Just to say, I push my adult son in a manual chair, and ever WE have issues with some ECV drivers. They cut us off, and zip in front if us as we try to move thru the crowds without clipping other guests on the ankle. It is difficult enough, to avoid the sudden stops of guests, the team meetings in the middle of the walkways, the people darting in front of us (on purpose),and now we have to deal with the many ECVs. DL trips are much easier, way few ECVs there.

Hope you are recovered, and I can't wait to see a menu for Skippers.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I agree with the other person that I think she should have been kicked out. If you run into a skier on a slope, you can get your lift taken if you were skiing recklessly. You can be arrested for leaving the scene of an accident that you were involved in. There should be some consequences. I was one time run into one of those things in line at the store. The woman had my leg caught it in it and it kept on going forward as I screamed. She didn't know how to use it. There needs to be some standards.

Oh no, so sorry to hear that. I would have been slightly tempted to go after her (or ask someone to) and get her darn insurance information...just to let her know that such behavior is indeed in fact something that makes her liable to be sued. (Not that I'd probably ever go through with such a thing, but she should know she is liable for damages and injury etc....should someone choose to pursue it)
What a witch. Hope you are on the mend soon!!! :(

I am sure I am about to be blasted here, but I would like to offer an opposing side. I am in no way defending this woman's action. Accident or not, she should have stopped. About 6 months ago I got sick. I am a healthy 30 something before this and not overweight. Now I have days I can barely stand and other days I can walk around my house by myself. Hopefully my condition is only temporary for the next several years. I'm not going to let it stop me from going to Disney!

We have rented a scooter twice since this happened. I will tell you the perspective from the ground is just as difficult. You cant see. People cut you off too. In a scooter though you come slamming to a halt when you take your hand off the gas even on the slowest setting. I don't know what's worse, injuring someone in front of me or in back of me because I stopped short. The most frustrating was taking our niece to a crazy busy halloween party this year. She is only 5. I almost ran her over at least 10 times with people cutting off the "scooter people."

All I am suggesting is that we consider each other and act with kindness and awareness of our surroundings. I know not everyone acts that way, but here is my Disney Christmas wish for our upcoming trip.

Hoping your trip goes well! (and wishing you the best with your condition) I think there is a big difference between an accidental nudging or bumping of someone and flat out running them down. I'd hope people would be understanding of accidents like you speak of. This somehow sounded like quite a different circumstance.
Hoping EVERYONE who visits has a safe trip this season (ECV's, strollers, weaving in and out tourists, you name it).
And crossing my fingers we hear about an opening of Skipper's soon. ONE DAY to go for us here!

I know the whole scooter thing has been threaded to death but we are just back and it is getting worse and actually quite ridiculous at times. The issue is speed, not so much the scooters themselves. I did lol when someone on scooter was badmouthing the driving skills of another scooter driver.

I was at MK yesterday and the entire building where the skippers is
Going is a total construction zone. Doesn't look anywhere near ready. When was it supposed to open?

I know of one scooter driver who learned her lesson. I use one and am careful. Well I guess this lady didn't like how I was driving. She whips around me, swears while looking back at me. Now I had a quick decision to make. Do I or do I not yell out to her she was about to hit a garbage can. Now believing in not being confrontational I decided not to.

I've never heard anyone criticize someone in a scooter in front of them for stopping short due to someone cutting them off, so if faced with the choice, I suggest the latter is the best approach.

Incidentally, in case anyone's wondering, Skipper Canteen isn't in the ADR system yet, as of a minute ago.

I'm sure driving them is a challenge through the thick crowds. My issue is more with the distracted driving and speed.

I have seen so many distracted ECV drivers over the years. Looking to the right or left rather than what's in front of them. Even on an almost empty Main Street, my mom was nearly run down because the person wasn't looking ahead. She was casually walking down Main Street in a straight line and didn't cut anyone off.

Just as with any guest, there are considerate people and inconsiderate people. The person who literally ran down @TheRustyScupper is a complete jerk, "accident" or not. If you ran into someone while you were walking and they fell over and injured themselves would you keep walking with no acknowledgement? No, that would not be acceptable.

Some ECV drivers somehow think they get a pass on common decency (see, I said some not all). Just because it's an "accident" doesn't mean you get to just plow through and move on with your day after you injured someone!

Unfortunately the distracted driving will never stop. People will always look around rather than straight ahead. The speed is what is so frightening to me. Distracted driving + speed = disaster.

PS I'm starting to think SC won't be open for our early Jan. trip. We shall see!

It is such a temptation - we all do it, look around at the sights to see as we're walking through the parks. There are two big differences. We generally can feel that we're getting close to someone, even if we're not looking in their direction, when we get within four or five inches, and that's far enough ahead of time to avoid hitting them. Riding an ECV, there's about a foot of machine in front of you so you never get a chance for your innate spidey senses to trigger. Also, if you are distractedly walking down Main Street and happen to bump into someone, it's body against body, with loads of buffering of the impact from fat, muscle and clothing. In a collision between an ECV and a person, there's hard and inflexible materials involved. I hope I never have need of an ECV but if I do I think it is critical to give up the normal mode of visiting Disney, give up sightseeing while moving entirely. Move; pull aside; stop; look around; then move ahead. It takes away from the park going experience but so does the need for hearing aids and a blind person's cane.
