taking towel animals

I accidentally spilt mouthwash on a little ghost that was sitting on the bath tray in the bathroom. We took that one home out of embarrasment. We usually leave them for other people to enjoy. But now that I think about it, hygenically, that's maybe not a great idea.

When we stayed at POP, we got some really cute towel animals. I sort of wondered the same thing. But then again, I don't need more stuff at my house collecting dust, so I just took a picture and left them there :)

LOL, that's what my DH says, that I have enough stuff at home, just take a pic and leave it. Besides, it gives the kids something to look forward to, if I brought it home and they see it all the time, might not be as special. I just wish I could learn to do it myself!;)

I took mine home last year from CBR--a cute penguin and a little bunny! So cute!
Take them--they are yours! :goodvibes

I would guess that the cost of those towel animals going to "new homes" has already been calculated by Disney and is in their marketing plan. I am sure we all paid for those towels. I have never taken any, but I will be taking any home that I receive on our next trip. If Mousekeeping says yes, the manager at the front desk say yes, then I say "yee ha"!

I guess it goes right along with using the coffee they supply in the room, you don't get a credit if you don't use it, or the shampoo etc they supply. Some things are including in the cost of the room, I bet the towel animals are included in that cost as well. If people stopped taking them home, I would be willing to bet we wouldn't see a discount in the room prices because mousekeeping isn't creating/washing/buying towel animals.

I say, congrats to anyone who receives the "gift" of a towel animal !

I agree 100% with you. They more than likely buy their supplies in bulk and the cost is not that much. We keep our lei's from Poly. Besides, I don't really like the idea of the towel animals traveling from resort room to resort room, and many people touching it. I am sure Disney wouldn't put used towel animals in rooms. I would ask and then not think twice about keeping it. I have never gotten one though.

Don't get them wet.
They will come to life and multiply like grimlins!
:rolleyes1

I am glad to know you can take them with you.
They are cute.

Not wanting to gross anyone out, cause they can be cleaned, but when we were there in Oct. they had the towel animals in the room window next to us, saw the kids playing with them, they checked out while we were there, the next day, new people, same animals in window!!:confused3

We were at the Poly a couple years ago and there was a CM making showing how to make them in the lobby. She gave us a few and said we could take them home. Well DS who was 2 at the time took two of them apart, and went after the third, which I managed to wrangle out of his little claws. So, I have one cute little duck (minus the eyes) sitting on my dresser at home, reminding me of our fabulous trip!

I just can't imagine taking them home. Even if it's OK, I'm not sure what I would do with them. We always take pictures of them when we find them in the room, but never take them home.

I hear you, but DD7 LOVES them. :confused3 They're cute and a novelty and all, but the weird thing (weird in a sweet way) is they are so special to her.....doesn't matter that she brought her favorite stuffed toys, bought new WDW cuddly things, made a doll in Germany.....she really likes those silly towel things. :goodvibes

Disney's "official" answer has always been (at least for our family and anything else I have ever seen posted or heard first hand) to keep them. Therefore...we keep. However, any of you feeling the need to leave them...we will be more then happy to make "anybody" you leave a good home with our family! ;) We have a little lion and a small rabbit. Both are still adored and can be found on display in our bathrooms. ;)

Trust me.. NOTHING is "on" the mouse. You're paying.. You are definitely paying.

I too never thought you could take them home. I might consider taking one home.

IMO would never take a towel animal...pictures do fine. It is a cost of ordering more towels for replacement, which makes all total costs go up. Time for housekeeping to make a new animal, cost of someone to inventory towels, order new towels...etc

You do what you want, but I personally would never take one(even if someone was told that they could take one).

------------------------

When this topic came up a couple of years ago, I believe someone spoke to Disney about this and they were told that the towel animals were made from wash cloths and towels that were slated to be thrown out anyhow and they are made by housekeeping on their own time.. If that's true, there's no additional "costs" involved..

I wish I had known we could take them. As many others have said, I never even considered taking them as I considered that to be stealing towels. We took photos, but the kids would have loved being able to bring the towel animal home.

I have never taken one (and probably wouldn't) - for a couple of reasons.

1.) Like others have said, I don't know what I would do with it at home.....we have enough stuff taking up space. I do take pics though!

2.) My parents used to on a small motel in Lake George. People used to steal towels a lot (and no, we never made them into animals lol). That always annoyed us. So, it would feel wrong to me (even if the mouse approved)....

We had a mousekeeper at pofq give my girls some as we were loading up in the parking lot- we were not even going back to the room.

Unfortunately we've never received any on our last few trips from the resort we were staying at.:confused3 (Pop and CBR). However, while eating at POFQ one trip, there was a CM teaching how to make the cuties. My DD made a couple, and we definitely brought them home. (The CM actually "made" them) She gave them to her friend, when we got home. :goodvibes

What we were told is that its their policy to allow guests to take them with one exception. Apparently, on occassion, they set up little displays/non permanent type things with their towel/washcloth stuff that is still in use and those arent meant to be taken home.

We were told that If it has been glued, drawn on or otherwise altered (no longer a serviceable towel/washcloth then those are meant to be taken). We were also told there was no guarantee about getting one as its something that 'mousekeeping' can do if they have the time/ability but not to expect anything.

Unfortunately, all we got was a 'little ghost' that was just a washcloth rubber banded so we figured that one was a no no, now if it had eyes.........
