Hi, this will be our first visit to WDW, our hotel will be Swan and Dolphin and would like to take the monorail and going to magic kingdom, question is:

Assuming we are at Swan and Dolphin, is there a way to go/walk from hotel to the main entrance at epcot and take the monorail? i know there is a back entrance to epcot walking from the hotel, but we dont want to visit epcot but would like to take the monorail to magic kingdom.

Thanks.

The only way is to walk through Epcot, which would require admission. There is a bus from the Swan/Dolphin to MK, it would be quicker.

There is no way to walk to the front of Epcot. Only to the international gateway, and then thru Epcot to the front. A valid pass would be required to do that.

There is direct bus service from Swan/Dolphin to Magic Kingdom.

If you want to ride the monorail you could walk or boat to Disney Studios, then bus to Epcot front entrance and monorail to TTC and then monorail or boat to Magic Kingdom. You can also bus from Studios to TTC and ride monorail from there to Magic Kingdom.

hey thanks for your help and suggestions. I havent noticed we could take a bus from HS to Epcot and then from there, take monorail to Magic Kingdom. I think this is what we will do, that way we could live the experience of riding the monorail. Thanks.

Yes there is bus service from the Swan/Dolphin to the MK. They share buses with the Boardwalk, Beach Club and Yacht Club. Depending on the time of day and the season the bus may stop at all these resorts. At busy times they break them up so there are less stops.

Just take the bus from your resort to the Magic Kingdom and either before or after your visit to the park take a monorail ride. You can get off at the TTC and switch to the Epcot monorail from there if you want.

You could also take a taxi from the Swan/Dolphin to the front of Epcot.

Probably the easiest is to take the boat from Swan/Dolphin to DHS (S/D is the last stop before DHS), then take the bus to Epcot. From there you get two monorail rides to the MK (Epcot to the TTC, and TTC to MK).

An alternative choice (not necessarily the most time efficient) would be take the bus from S/D to MK on the day you're going to Epcot. Then take the monorail from MK to TTC and then the TTC monorail to Epcot. A kind of round about method of getting to Epcot, but might still be fun because you get see Epcot from the monorail (if you take the monorail from Epcot to the TTC, then you miss the part of the route that goes through Epcot).

OP: I can understand that you would rather arrive at MK for your first visit by monorail rather than bus.

Be advised that the boats to DHS start running 45 minutes to an hour before DHS opens. You would not be able to arrive at the MK for rope drop by riding the boat to DHS, bus to Epcot, monorail to TTC, and monorail to MK (except perhaps on a DHS EMH morning.) There is a nice little welcoming show at the entrance 15 minutes before MK opens that you'll want to see, especially as first-timers.

You could walk to DHS; I think it's roughly a mile or slightly less from the Swan. You should probably start walking at least 90 minutes before MK opening. If you arrive at DHS more than 45 minutes before opening, find a bus driver and tell them that you want to go to Epcot; the buses may not be running yet from DHS to Epcot, but one will be provided for you.

Or you can splurge on a cab to Epcot's front entrance. It should be under $10.

If you really want a "magical" start to your day at MK arriving via Monorial I would splurge for a taxi to the TTC and then hop on the monorail to MK.

Otherwise, by the time you walk, boat, bus etc to the entrance of Epcot, take the Epcot monorial to the TTC, switch to the MK monorial loop most of that "morning magic" would be lost for me :)

On the way back however, I LOVE to leave MK via the monorail and head back to the Epcot resorts via Epcot (if you have a parkhopper). I think the Monorail into Epcot is the best ride! We usually catch some of the live entertainment at WS, a snack and a beverage and exit back out the IG to our resort.

Just wanted to mention during my multiple stays at the Boardwalk Inn each time I went to the Magic Kingdom and back, they only shared a Bus with the Swan and Dolphin.

For extra Magic Hours in Disneyland, can I board the monorail in down town disney?
Like, I'm staying in the Disneyland Hotel and I know I get extra morning hours. Can I take the monorail from dowtown disney to tomorrow land?

You may want to ask this over on the DisneyLand boards...this board is pretty much WDW based.
But in any case, welcome to the DIS boards!!!

If you really want to take the monorail over to MK, for that first MK arrival, I would recommend taking a cab from the S/D to the front of Epcot. Heading to DHS will work, but it is time consuming.
As others have mentioned, taking the monorail back to Epcot is wonderful...I love riding through Epcot before getting off the monorail, but you do have to have a park hopper to do that.

It is fun to see Epcot from the monorail. You wouldn't need a park ticket if you get off at the Epcot monorail station, then walk over to the bus stop and take a taxi back to the Swan/Dolphin.

Or if you just like to ride the monorail a lot, you could stay on the monorail and make it a round trip back to the TTC, take the MK monorail to the MK and walk over to the bus stop and take the bus back to the Swan/Dolphin. :)
