Our high school band will be traveling to Orlando next Feb (Presidents Week)... the director is considering staying off site... I have always stayed on site so am in need of some suggestions of a nice hotel that we could book say 30 rooms at for 5 nights.... close to Disney... we will have our own coach busses but I don't think it would be so bad to have hotel transportation to... also cost is a concern as the kids are paying for it so we are trying to keep the cost down.. thanks for your suggestions.

The Grosvenor in DD is pretty cheap and has the DD Disney buses. The pics online look like it is kida dated and all but for the price it may be worth it to call and sse what kind of group rate they might have. My friend who is a CM got a rate of $59 per night, which they might match for a group. Worth a shot.
Here is a link to their reservation site which lists a group reservation link.

Great idea...close to Downtown Disney. that would let the kids walk over to DD and get Disney buses from there...You might also check:

http://www.mousesavers.com/royalplaza.html or
http://orlandoresorthotel.com/contact.htm

They are in the same area and come highly recommended. I would call them and see if they would not give you a great rate. I would try to negotiate about $50/night as this is about the rate in that area on Priceline.

I agree the Grosvenor has not had the best reviews lately.

Good luck and have a great time...we will be there during those months and may even see the band in action...

Trip Report 5/19

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I could not wait until December so I got a crazy thought and gathered the family for a "quick" 580+ mile road trip to WDW. I called WDW and they had nothing available for the weekend except a $650 a night suite at Yacht & Beach Club. Not happening, so found something cheap at the Grosvenor. I am thinking it cannot be that bad. Well, we arrived at 6 am after driving all night. We got to our room which was just so in need of a refurb and a deep cleaning. After composing myself to get the energy to go to the Flower & Garden Fest at Epcot (the rest of the family slept the whole way thank goodness), we headed to Epcot. The crowds were so not bad like I expected. The weather was cool and breezy. Lines were also short. The flowers did not seem as numerous as in years past. All the table-service restaurants were booked ALL day, so we grabbed fish n chips at UK. I was so wanting to eat at San Angel or Rose & Crown. The day was really good at Epcot, aside from that.

Getting back to the Grosvenor is a different story. There were teenagers running rampant all over the hotel property. Parties in every room, beer cans and trash flying off balconies as we approached our room. At our room, it was like arriving at a party outside our door. Tons of underage drunks, screaming, smoking, etc. This party went on outside our door until 2 am which was after 3 phone calls to security. I hated to be the "party pooping adult", but I lost all senses when a skateboarder at 2 am lost his board as he passed our room and it crashed into the window almost breaking it. Needless to say, if anyone was sleeping in our end of the hotel at this time...they were not when I went off on all the disrespectful little drunks outside. Security came, the culprits were kicked out of the hotel. Security said they were being outnumbered to control the delinquents of which they had caught several in "compromising" activities in the pool area and in the bushes.

I finally fell asleep about 4 then drove back so that I could get everything ready for work the next day. I love WDW and love the fact that I got to go to the Flower & Garden Festival again. I, however, will NEVER step foot at the Grosvenor again. We always stay on property at a WDW resort, so all this did was confirm it for me in the future that if there are no rooms at a Disney owned hotel, I just will not go. I have a friend who is a castmember that we told what we did and she said "I cannot believe you made it out of the Grosvenor alive". I had no idea it would be that bad of a property.

I cannot wait until December to be back at the great, beautiful, trusty Wilderness Lodge

yea I read the reports on the Grosvenor.

Lake Buena Vista Best Western is older too. but it was definitely nicer.

the rooms were clean.

the pool was GREAT!

here is all the hotels in DD

look for quality inn west - although the shortcut might not be best in a bus?

Wow, I sure am sorry I mentioned that place. That's awful! Nevermind Wendy, check out some of the other DD places I guess.

Well I now have the dates... Feb 18-21 at Disney... will need about 35 rooms - and would like Cont. Breakfast included.... hoping to find something around $120 a night... any more suggestions??????????

There is a Doubletree on the left of Disney property once you leave Disney Village. The Doubletree looks like a "tropical" hotel with coconuts. I think it might help. Close enough to Disney property but off Disney property.

Has your band director checked out prices through group reservations? It seems to me DD's band stayed way out by the airport when they played at the Music Festival.

My husband is a high school band director and we will be going with our band Feb/March. We are staying on property at one of the All-Stars for 119.00 + tax. We also have the option of buying food vouchers for the kids and a NICELY priced 4 day park ticket. Go through Magic Music Days group sales. Hope this helps~

For $120 a night you could easily do a WDW value or maybe even a moderate. That really doesn't seem like a low budget amount. You might have them consider calling Disney to see what kind of package they would do. You wouldn't get the breakfast included though unless you added the dining which might be an option?

If you are definitely staying offsite then I'd take a look at the home page of the Dis - wdwinfo.com and put in your dates. It will bring up options around the WDW area. I'd try for a WDW good neighbor to take advantage of the EMH and busses.

Good luck!

You afford a value resort at that price - especially using their group rates. I think you would need at least 8 rooms - so with 30 kids you have got them.

boy there are so fews deals out there

www.hotelmartusa.com
www.expedia.com

there are alot of places that are already booked.

I would try to find some place soon.

call disney book sales

on from the home site of dis - well that link would not work because it is refusing to allow me to change to 2008.

Try the Buena Vista Suites or Hawthorne Suites. Both hotels are convenient to Disney property and have a nice hotel breakfast included in the price. The rooms are suites with small kitchens and separate bedrooms - sllep 6 - 2 double beds and sofa bed.

Check the DIS boards hotel info page and also mousesavers for prices.
