Taking photo for ticket

We will be at DL Feb 1-7. I purchased 5day hoppers for our family. We should arrive at the hotel about 7pm and had planned to find dinner at Downtown Disney to jump start our fun. I was told that five day hoppers now require a photo? Can someone explain how that works? Is there a way to have the photo taken in advance at either the hotel (Disneyland Hotel) or the night before at DD so that we don't have to wait in a line the first morning? I would appreciate any information.

Good question. Anyone have first hand information on this.

Anything to help getting through the turnstiles in the morning is appreciate by everyone in line.

What has been happening now for multi-day hoppers?

TIA

I don't know how it works for a multi day pass, but with an annual pass, you are told to find a PhotoPass photographer and they scan your pass, take the photo and it's attached electronically in their database.

Yes, you will need to get your picture taken before you enter the Park for the first time. You can do so at the Main Gate entrance.

According to WalleandEva2001 who posted from their experience just this week: "still taking pics at front gate. No separate lines for those who already have them taken. Every time you go back to the gate, they scan your park ticket, it brings up your pic and they check it against the person handing it to them, then you go to the gate like usual and hand them your ticket to get admission to the park."

I have not read anywhere that pictures can be taken anywhere other than at the gate. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Using PhotoPass for your photo with a multi-day pass is not an option.

Haven't been through this personally but I have read about it. They now have CM's that stand outside the gates with Ipods and take your photo the first time you use your ticket. I have not heard about them taking pictures anywhere else but there. The reason they are doing this is people were passing there tickets off to others that had not purchased them and they were in turn using them to get entrance into the park. Once they take your picture then it is in their data base and they know what you look like so no one else can use that ticket but you. I have read that it does slow down the lines getting into the park, but not that bad.

Just wanted to share our experience with the whole picture taking thing this weekend; we had 4 day park hopper e-tickets and we entered for the first time at California Adventure yesterday around 4. We walked right up to the turnstyle-no lines. The CM checked our Id's and printed our tickets with our names on them but did not take our pictures. This morning, we entered Disneyland Park first and the lines were crazy. This is when they decided to take our picture and the CM had to take DH's 6 times because the morning sunlight was making it hard to get a good shot. Not sure why our pics weren't taken yesterday when we first used them but it was a little frustrating being passed up in line because of the issues the CM was having taking pics. Hope they find a better solution soon!

OP here. Thanks for the updates all! I was hoping that we could walk to the park entrance the night before and have our photo taken, but not actually enter the park. That way, the first morning we wouldn't have to wait. If the park opens at 9am with early entry at 8am, about what time do you suggest we be at the gate?

Are you going to EE?

Is this for all park hopper tickets or just ones of a certain length?

I'm getting 3 day hoppers for our February trip and am wondering if we'll have our pictures taken, too.

Yes, you will. It is for anyone with anything longer than one day.

Can I stick my tongue out for mine? (joking)

Hmmm, that's interesting. I don't fault Disney for it, I fault the scammers ripping off their ticketing system, but how annoying.

I was at both DCA and DL yesterday and they were scanning tickets and taking pictures with something small like an iPhone. It was really quite quick so I wouldn't worry too much about delays.

Awesome!

It doesn't really bother me, I was just surprised as I hadn't heard about it yet!

Are pictures taken only for park hopper tickets??
My daughter won an all expenses paid 3 n/4 d trip to Disneyland :woohoo: that includes everything but park hopper:confused: so I just wasn't sure if we would still need to have our pictures taken.

Yes you will. It's 3 day tickets or longer, though I've heard some with 2 day tickets getting their picture taken too.

OP again. Thanks for all the responses. Regarding the time we need to get to the gate, yes we do plan to do early entry. I was really hoping that the Disney owned hotels would post photo takers at the hotel as a convenience to their guests. I think that if it works out, I will have our family walk to the Esplanade the night we arrive and if we see a photo taker we will ask if we can have our picture taken early. We do intend to take advantage of early entry each day. Since we come from eastern standard time, we wake up early, particularly the first few days out west. On past trips we would leave the hotel about 90 minutes before regular park entry time to go to the early entry park. I was just curious if we had to leave even earlier now.

We are buying a one day ticket for DCA for Friday. Will there be a separate line for us? I'd hate to wait for no reason.

Sadly, no. I've been here for the last 3 days and everyone ends up in the same lines. The line at the grand Californian entrance was super long for magic mornings. The employees were none too friendly either. It was easier and faster for us to go to the main entrance to get in to DCA for our magic morning.

We returned last night from 5 days and we had to have our tix scanned to check for a photo every single day and every single time we park hopped. I try to be easy going, but it was starting to get frustrating. One time, the CM was with another person and my mom got past to the turnstile before she got us but then my mom had to wait inside the gate for the rest of us to have our tix checked by the iphone cm before we could move to the ticket taker cm. And we had just come from CA, had hand stamps and my dd was eating a park treat.

I called last week to ask this question to one of the cast members working at the Grand Californian. His name was Torii I think. Anyway, we are arriving on Saturday and are not entering a park until Sunday. He said we can take our Print-at-Home tickets to the Grand Californian entrance on Saturday night to convert them to actual tickets, complete with having our picture taken that night, and not have to use a day of our passes.

We are going to try that. We'll see.
