Hello all,

I know there was a similar thread here recently about what is and is not acceptable to take in to the US but the topic of fruit squash (cordial) didn't come up. My children aren't fans of drinking just plain water and I don't want them living on fizzy drinks for 3 weeks. I planned to take some in the checked in suit case, is this a no no as it's sort of fruit related? If not is Cool Aid powder the most similar alternative?

Many thanks :)

As far as I know you can take squash. My kids are the same, will only drink one brand of diluting juice! However walmart does sell the robinsons diluting juice. It about $6-7 dollars a bottle though. I am just going to buy it there as I worry it may burst in my case!

Go careful with Kool Aid my son had one and was bouncing of the walls!

We go with apple juice and water it down.

Ive been taking it over for last three years for my girls with no problems

Even though its fruit it is allowed as it is treated and there are no seeds etc.

I don't bother with it as DD will drink milk (mainly breakfast) and apple juice. She also had some of the still pink lemonade last time and obviously just water. She is really good as we have been taking her since little she understands she has to drink in the heat and that water is best :thumbsup2

If you can get them to drink apple juice (its the clear sort not the cloudy one) it is really widely available out there nearly all the CS & TS offer it. It is also served by VA on the planes hence my getting her to try it as it makes life soooo easy :cool1:

To save having to risk packing a bottle in your checked in luggage and you have a car Walmart sell squash, it is a little pricey but if you need it then it is worth it.

Walmart also do some excellent powders in various flavours you can add to bottled water. Its cheap and one small sachet does one small bottle of water. :goodvibes

If your children are sensitive to new tastes, you may want to consider ordering some bottled water to dilute it with. DD happily drinks the Florida water straight up. I don't like it and will only drink bottled water. It's something to be aware of.

Thank you everyone. As it's allowed, I will take it as I plan on packing it in a suitcase with nappies and shower gel etc so if it spilled it wouldn't be the end of the world. I can't face spending $7 on a bottle of squash :)

Interesting post. I'm not bothering with squash but...

My DD1 will happily drink fizzy drinks (she doesn't get them at home, so it's a 'treat' once in a while when we go out for a meal!), but I certainly don't want her overfilling on them, even on holiday, so it will be fruit juice or water mainly (plan on buying bottled water). My DD2 won't drink fizzy at all (thank goodness) and will only drink water (mainly) or fruit juice with a meal out - particularly apple juice.

So, I'm pleased to hear they have apple juice offered at TS meals :thumbsup2, it means DD2 has the option at a meal. In the parks I'll only be offering water unless they need a sugar rush (joking!) :hyper:

Next time I am going to pack squash. DD got sick of drinking chocolate milk or apple juice for two weeks. The chocolate milk I even had her name on it we joked its because she drank so much of it x

I noticed the other day that Robinsons have started doing super concentrated cordial in tiny bottles that can fit in a hand bag. Might be easier than packing full sized bottles

There's apple and orange at most CS restaurants and the soda machines have still drinks too. Loaded with sugar of course, but DD dilutes hers with iced water

All the grocery stores sell Crystal Light which is a powder version and my kids love it! I agree that you should stay away from Kool-aide as it makes my kids bounce as well (but they love it). There is also load of different flavors of water you can get. A burst container of squash isn't something I want to think about so wouldn't even attempt it:)

we took several bottles of squash as that is all we drink as well, I had wrapped them in bubble wrap and couple of carrier bags around then and was careful where i packed them in the suitcases. Left lots of room for our treasure trove to bring back !!

Makes a change from the fizzy stuff all the time so I would do it again no bother at all. Robinsons juice is sold in Walmart but at over $5.00 a bottle it is way too pricey !

what you do need to remember is that your suitcase may be inspected before it is loaded and they will remove all the packaging!

What about the super concentrated squashes? They make 40+ drinks each and will easily fit in hand luggage as they are only 38ml each. Seems much more sensible than lugging a few kg over there in checked luggage and risking potentially a fair bit of liquid leaking everywhere in the process :confused3 They're only marginally more expensive and much more convenient if you wanted to take them to the parks.

Ooo, I hadn't considered flavored water! And I guessing crystal light is less "bouncy"? I'll check the super market for those tiny bottles, as currently the ones I've packed are taking up LOTS of room.

Many thanks again :)
