DH has decided that I should bring my new laptop so that he can check E___ while we are in WDW. We leave tomorrow. Since I have never taken the laptop on a trip before, what cables, wires should I bring. I thought just the phone cables and the internet cables. I don't know how to work my wireless yet. I thought I would use the phone @$.75 a call to go thru our AOL account.
Also, if I am logged into AOL as one user, how do I check another users AOL email without signing off and signing on again at $.75 a pop. We are staying at AKL.

I don't really know anything about the cables you would need cuz I dont' have a laptop. But as for the e-mail I think you could log on to Mail2Web and access both e-mail accounts there at once. Hopefully some tech savvy person will be along soon with both answers. :D

just unplug the phone cord from the back of the phone and plug in to your modem, or if you have your own cord with you plug in to the outlet in the wall.

we have logged on to aol from the rooms and just pay the cost for a local call. once you log on, go to aol's website and log in for the other user. or just go to webmail.aol.com, but you should be able to just switch users if you would rather use the aol software.

good luck & have fun!

Not to alarm you but I sure hope you have better luck than I did with connecting via dialup at WDW. I was just there with weekend (missing the mouse already  and had grave difficulties trying to connect :badpc:

I tried using both Juno and my local ISP provider (long distance call) and neither worked. One was eternally busy and the other wouldn't connect. Maybe AOL will work better but I could not use it for what I needed.

You can also go to one of the conference center hotels and use theirs but that didn't work out for me either because they close the computer centers at the latest at 6pm.

To say the least it didn't work out for me, I sure hope you have better luck.

I've always brought my laptop to the world and never had a problem logging in. I do find with Juno the problem has always been slow/lag issues and connectivity was crappy. When I went to Roadrunner dial access, I had really good reception and no connectivity problems what so ever.

As far as AOL goes, just make sure you get local access numbers. Best way to check is if it connects without having to put a 1 in front of the numbers, then it's local.

I've always had good luck with AOL @ Disney. Make sure you have local numbers stored in advance. To check multiple emails without redialing, click sign off at top of screen, and select change screen name. You have to dial the area code, and select dial 9 for outside line.

As long as we're on the subject....... How do you connect if you don't have AOL or Juno etc.... ?? I have Comcast cable so it isn't a dial up ! Is there a way ???? :flower1:

Juno is OK if you just get the free account. It's not that bad. Otherwise, I say go for a free trial of anything except AOL, then cancel. There are many dialup ISPs that give you a 30day free trial, like PeoplePC, MSN, etc etc.

I have Roadrunner cable and they provide a free dial access for their customers. I don't believe Comcast provides the same thing.

I'm connected through AOL right now from Pop Century. I just plugged my phone cord into the back of my computer and into the jack in the wall. Make sure you call the front desk at the hotel and check that the number you're going to connect to is a local one! Those long distance charges will end up being more than the cost of the hotel room!

I always have a cat 5 cable and a long telephone cord in my laptop back pack. I also carry a wireless networking card. And if both me and my wife bring both of our laptops for various reasons and we are staying in hotel with high speed access in the rooms, I will also bring our wireless router from home. During the last hurricane that hit Florida, we evac'ed to Atlanta, and since we were up there during a work week, I took my router and figured out the tricks to get it to work with the hotels networks. We were both able to get access to our corporate networks and be productive (and thusly keep our bosses happy).

I was just there last weekend and could not connect even with help through tech support to Juno and it was a paid account. I tried several times a day during our 4 day trip and was never able to connect. I was being penalized through my college by not being able to connect so suffice it to say that I tried everything to connect.

If you get onto their broadband access, you'll be able to use your email program to connect to the comcast email server just as if you're plugged into your cable. If you use a dialup ISP, you'll be able to do the same thing after connecting. No changes to your email setup should be necessary for either.

I have high-speed Internet through my cable company and am using high-speed Internet from our room at the Contemporary right now. Brought my laptop and my ethernet cable and I can check my email at home through the web.

I'm using AOL dialup at the Animal Kingdom Lodge right now. I brought my ethernet cable, but AKL does not have high speed connections. I had a little trouble finding a local number, used up about $5.00 searching, but they refunded my $5.00. Now It just costs $.75 per dial up.
We are having a great time. We were upgraded from a standard room to a savannah view of the people pen. We can still see plenty of animals. Ate lunch out on the balcony today in full view of giraffes and Ankole Cattle.
