I am thinking of taking about 3 ready to drink soymilk boxes for DD on the plane. Will I run into any trouble doing this? I was going to take the milk already in 3 bottles, but didnt know how I would keep it cold without a gel icepack thingy. Any suggestions? DD can only drink soymilk.

I'm assuming the milk is for your 1 yr old. In that case, you should be OK. We take milk, juice, water, yogurt, etc, for DS on the plane frequently. Security just needs to run additional tests on baby items. At OHare, they have sterile test strips they dip in the liquid. At Minneapolis, they have a scanner they use without openning the container. So - just in case things need to be opened, I put all liquids in sippy cups, and have extra small tupperware for yogurt containers if necessary. I've also been allowed to have the freezer thing to keep it all cold - but also, just in case, I have the milk refrigerated overnight in Thermos Fogo sippys which say that they keep liquids at safe temps for 8+ hours.

I always use a bag of frozen grapes or frozen baby carrots as an ice pack.

I'm pretty sure ice packs are okay through security if they're with baby "stuff." I know someone who was checking out the TSA website regarding this just the other day.

Probably OK...but depending on age of child on your visit it might raise eyebrows (like if the 1 year old is almost 2 and obviously not a 'baby' anymore).

You might be better off just sticking to water for the baby during the flight or juice if you let her drink diluted juice. Either one of these will be readily available to purchase after the security checkpoint and it will likely be a lot easier than 'fighting' with a security person about it.

When we traveled in Dec with my almost 3yr old we went through security no issues with 3 sippys of milk in both Indy and Orlando and DS is not small for his age at all. It seems they are letting it be up to the parent to decide whether their child needs the liquids or not.

I was surprised in Indy as it was an accident that they had milk in them and I did it on purpose just to see whether it would be allowed through at Orlando as well. No one said a word to us.

They won't (or shouldn't) give you any problems. Just let them know and I would put them in ziploc bags as well so they don't leak on anything.

I agree that it will likely be okay, but I just made my suggestion as a 'just in case'. Because I think the actual rules (at least last time I checked) was that liquid was allowed only for babies. So really there would be no way to stop a security person from being strict about the rules and then messing up OP's plans by throwing away all she brought.

If it isn't something you physically need to get you through to your destination (which in most cases older than babies it isn't a need, maybe a want) - it just isn't worth the risk to me. I have seen some security people be a lot more strict than others. I like just going by the 'official' rules so it doesn't mess up my flight plans.

That being said, it would probably make it through.

Thanks to everyone for posting. Im only needing to take 3 bottles as we get on the plane at 3:25, but probably wont be at our hotel until 7pm and we wont have access to a car and a store. I want to make sure I have enough in case something happens with our GG order. My dd wont drink juice. She will take water some. If she could drink most anything I wouldnt worry about it, but since she can only have soymilk (allergy thing) I dont want to have to be without in case I cant find any at the airport. She is definately a tiny baby/toddler at 18 pounds and 16 mos (about 3rd % on the charts) so I dont think any TSA agent would give me a hard time about it.
Thanks for the help. I also called SW today and asked about bringing 3 bottles and she said that should be okay. I hate to stress!!!

Because she specificly needs soymilk due to an allergy, you may want to cinsidering asking your ped. for a note that says as such. That way you can show it to security (since it isn't like you can just buy another carton of milk once you are through security). Just more proof that this is something she NEEDS vs. soemthing she wants.

We were at the Orlando airport and I completely forgot that I had filled my 3yo straw cup with milk at the meal we had at the airport and security didn't even bat an eyelash. All they did was have me open up the cup and wave a test strip over it and then sent me on my way. I think as long as there are children involved security is more understanding.

the only thing i had a problem with was the icepack. they did take that from me at newark. babies sippys were fine
