I've heard several people say they always take home the towel animals because they think they're supposed too. I dunno, I'm just having a hard time beleiving Disney wants you to take their towels. Does anyone know the official answer on this? I'm not scolding those who have done it but it just doesn't seem like they'd want you to take em.:confused3

I think that if Disney did not want you to take them, they would not allow housekeeping to make them.

Whenever we get towel animals, we ask if it is okay to take them home and are always told yes. Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't, but we feel better knowing that it is OK to do so, because we wouldn't want our children to think that stealing is acceptable.

You can take home the towel animals.

After a year or so, the animal isn't going to be the same anyway. Most of them involve a rubber band of some sorts so that gives out, the animal sags and eventually you are left with just a towel and maybe a couple of stick on eyes.

Having to "kill" an animal once it's in my home made me stop taking them. My husband made me feel so guilty! "You know, that washcloth used to be a butterfly".

I don't know if you can or if you cant but WHY would you want to would be my question! I can't imagine sticking towel animals all over my house for decoration!

We stayed @ POFQ May 11-18 2008. We met our mousekeeper one day, she said she had something special for my grandaughter. It was a cute little towel animal. She thanked us for our tips and told us to take the towel animal home with us. She was a very sweet lady. She said she had worked for disney for 28 years.

When we checked in last month there were towel animals left over from the previous guest. We also left ours when we left.

I don't think they are meant to take home. Why would anyone want them anyway?

When we checked into the BCV, there was a Mickey head made out of three rolled towels on the bed. The kids saw it and said cool and then took it apart. That may not be a real towel animal, but there was no way we would have taken that home. We just used the towels regularly.

Oh and like someone else said, why would you take them home? When leaving, our suitcases were all stuffed and there wasn't room for anything else!

In my experience, the Towel Animals are made out of stained, old washcloths. The reason they are made into Towel Animals is because they won't put them out for guests. Why would I want to take something like that home? No thanks...

Some people bring mugs back from previous trips and use them at the resort again.... Some people take the little bottles of shampoo... Some people leave the pool towels on a lawn chair instead of putting them in laundry... most people dont shower before they get into the hot tub even though a huge sign sits a few feet away... The ole' taking towel animal trick agent 99! :lmao:

I have one towel animal that is a doll & involves a lot of ribbons, pipe cleaners, silk flowers & a few stickers for the face. I can't imagine Disney expects anything like this to be left in the room & recycled for the next guest, nor can I see them tearing it apart for the 50 cent value of the wash clothes used in making it.

BTW - we stayed at OKW and when I called to ask for extra pillows 2 housekeepers arrived with a balloon, & a card saying we were chosen as housekeeping's family of the day. I asked about the towel animals that were in the room and both the housekeeper and her manager were happy to hear the compliments and stated we were welcome to take the creations home.

I think this is hilarious: here is a balloon - you are a YOMD winner - you're going to have a well cleaned room today. Strange in my honest opinion! Has YOMD gone too far? :rotfl:

Does a housekeeper have the right to tell you to take a towel home? Are they her towels? I don't know what the official policy is, but would it be hard to believe the housekeeper is telling you to take them just so she could get a bigger tip? All that said, I don't think its a big deal. Just something to think about.

When we stayed at the CBR with my family the housekeeper there told us to take them home and when I stayed at the Allstar Music I was told I could take my towel animals home.
Another poster indicated that they were made from stained wash clothes but this did not seem to be the case.
My neice took one apart and it was made from a hand towel which appeared to be clean.

Relatives of ours were told by a manager (at BW) that it was fine to take them home.

We have been told also that we can take them home. Even if they are made out of stained towels who cares? The stains aren't visible and it isn't like people take them home to wash themselves or dry themselves. We currently have one lone towel animal (a doll) that we got on our very first trip. If we get any this trip we will probably bring them home. Not too put all around the house but on a shelf in the children's bedrooms or bathrooms.

We were told by a manager that we could take our towel animals home. I took pictures of them but left it in the room. It's one of those things you come home with from a vacation and think .... "what the heck? Why'd I bring this home...."
I felt a little guilty. The little towel animals were cute, but with 4 people in a small room we really had no room for the little critters. They ended up living above the TV cabinet.

Well what about the ones where the Housekeepers glue eyes on them and etc. Those towels would no longer be any good, so it's not like any more guests can use them if they took the towel animal apart.

I personally wouldn't take a towel animal home but I would definitely take lots and lots of pictures. While housekeeping makes them, I don't think it's theirs to give away. It's not any different from taking towels home from any other hotel/resort. A washcloth may not cost much in the big scheme of things, but if every hotel guest took a towel or two home, the cost could add up.
Just my 2 cents

Oh, come on, Disney says to take them, they are the stained worn out ones and have no more service left, going to be pitched. I'm sure regular towels and pool towels end up in peoples suitcases too. Same with mugs, do as I say...................but no one will fess up, don't want to upset the Disboard Gods. There are so many tricks and things done on a vacation, the taking of towel animals is no biggie.

I think if Disney's inventory of usable towels is decreasing too much the accountants would put an end to mousekeepers being allowed to make towel animals.

No offense but I find it amusing to question whether mousekeepers are allowed to give them away but people that post on the DIS are allowed to decide. It appears that managers are giving the OK also.
