Taking home towel animals?? C'mon!

We've taken pictures. Some are very cute. Never even thought about bringing them home. No room in the suitcase! :rotfl2: But I love looking at them in our photo album.:lovestruc

It would never have occured to me to take them.I had never heard of it until I read it on these boards.I have 4 kids,we like the surprise of some animals on the beds or table area when we come in for the day, took pictures of them and eventually I think they got used!lol

It would be great if the resorts offered a free towel animal making class. Great way to spend 30mins.

At the Polynesian in both the concierge lounge and in the main lobby they have housekeepers who make them and hand them out during the afternoons -- they don't show you how to make them though - they are just passing them out.

Well at Disney there is policy and there is what is enforced, and they are not the same. Policy from the General Manager's office is No, they are not to be taken home.

However if a guest asks they are not going to tell them No.

As always, right on, Sammie!:thumbsup2

I've had more towel animals than I can count in a few trips. I took the class at YC. I took a dozen pics and posted them. Guess people feel so special when they get one that they can't bear to leave it behind??:confused3

I hope that guests craving towel animals "get it". Soap, towels, washcloths, shampoo, mugs...There is no end, it seems, to the feeling of deprivation and never ever having "enough", even at the Happiest Place on Earth :sad2:

Wow...I was told by several CMs to TAKE THEM...THEY WERE MADE FOR YOU....:goodvibes

It's not a big deal to me...I didn't even ask whether we could or not. THey OFFERED and TOLD us..take them home.:)

:confused3 :confused3 Not like I care much really. They are kinda cute. I could take them or leave them...they sure don't make or break a stay but I didn't want to offend anybody by just seeming ungrateful by leaving them there since I was told they were made for us and to take them.:confused3

People claim to have asked and been told yes.

IMHO if you take the towels at the Holiday Inn then take the Disney towels. It's the same concept. Just beacuase they made them into towel animals doesn't change the fact that they are hotel towels.

Sorry, but there's a huge difference here. Both housekeepers and managers have specifically told guests that they could take them. That's no where near the same as stealing towels from Holiday Inn.

Some people take the little bottles of shampoo :lmao:

:thumbsup2 I do. Soap too. I give them to my neices and nephews as additional souvenirs. I have a few bottles of my own in my WDW bag. I don't steal anything, but take most free items, just for nostalgic reasons. I have all sorts of stuff in a bag in the downstairs closet. Bags, napkins, condiments, maps, etc... just because it's from WDW. I don't think I would want a towel animal though. It's too much hassle to get it home in its original shape and even though I love WDW...I don't want towel animals decorating my home. P.S. I've never had a towel animal left in my room.

We just stayed at WL club and the very first day our mousekeeper placed little duck towel animals holding our toothbrushes (there were 4 of us) the next day we saw our mousekeeper and she asked my 2 DDs if they liked what she had left them and then she went on to tell them they can keep them and take them home, I then said are you sure she said yes that they were ours to keep

Now if it would have been just me and DH we would have left them but since she spoke directly to my DD's we took them home, and they are now in the girls bathroom holding their toothbrushes lol

I never told anybody to ask the hotel manager - of course he/she has better things to do. But if you need an answer - if you need to take them and you need to know that it isn't stealing, then the manager is probably the only person with the authority to answer that question.

Let me ask this - if a maid told you it was OK to take a regular towel home with you, would you believe that it was OK because the maid said so? What if she said you could take the pillows home with you - would that be OK? The answer is 'no' because the maid doesn't have the authority to tell you to take the pillows and a reasonable person wouldn't believe the maid had the authority to tell you to take the pillows. No, you wouldn't have to ask Michael Eisner because it is reasonable to believe that a hotel manager would have the authority to tell you to take them, even though they aren't actually his.

Yes, this is a ridiculous thread. But as long as we're interested in our little debate, why should anybody care if the issue is insignificant? I'd say that's getting a bit judgemental . . .
I figure that the housekeeper knows whether or not they are to be taken home. She made it for us, she should know the policy. I doubt that if I asked if I could take the pillow home, I would be told yes.

Personally I would not want them and see them as decoration, just like the photos on the walls. Hopefully no one is taking them home. :thumbsup2
My issue is that I've been told by several resort managers that the towel animals are the resorts gift to the guest. If that guest is lucky enough to get a housekeeper that makes the towel animals they should feel free to take them home. I seriously doubt that management or housekeeping would have an issue with telling the guest that they would prefer the towel animals to stay in the room, that they are not to be taken home.

I have gotten the silly things at only about 4 of my stays so far. I do ask at each resort if we can take them home though. I just like to have the info at hand if someone asks me. It would seem that not all housekeepers have the ability to make towel animals.
Allow me to share a somewhat embarrassing but funny story.
I was at POP in January, with my 31 y/o dd. It was her first ever trip to WDW and I really wanted everything to be special. I had ordered a gift basket to be delivered to the room. Well, as we walked around the area our room was at, I noticed that a lot of the rooms had towel animals on view in the windows. We had been in our room but sadly no towel animals for us. This was my fourth stay at POP and only one stay there had towel animals in my room, so I wasn't expecting any. But, to see them in a lot of other room windows, well, I was a bit sad. So, as we were walking down the walkway, to show my dd Epcot off in the distance, I said to her..'I wish we had towel animals like those. Oh well, maybe next time.' Well, the housekeeper was coming out of the next door room and overheard me...I was so embarrassed. Then, she moved to our window and pointed down...huge smile on her face. I was mortified...there were two beautiful towel animals in our window. I hadn't looked in the window because any other towel animals I had gotten were left in the room, not the window. I figured that most people just put them in the windows to show them off. The housekeeper just laughed and told us to have a wonderful stay and to be sure to give those special animals a nice home!!

Let's see, basically they are washclothes. I would sit them on my kids bed and the kids would look at them for what, maybe a day. After that they end up on the floor and it's one more thing for me to wash. No thanks, I've amassed enough toys, disney hats, light sabers etc that I buy that turns into useless stuff with out adding to it.

I am not a known towel thief, but we let our 5yr old take home the two that we got. (Although, we didn't take the giant mickey head that was left on the bed). They were cute and he played with them like they were stuffed animals. Now they reside lost somewhere in his room.
In my opinion, I really don't think Disney gives a rats butt if people take them.

I think worrying about towel animals shows that some of us may have too much time on our hands. Its also not my business to judge what others choose to take home as souvenirs.

This thread is kind of ridiculous. I guess that makes me a criminal then because I have a little washcloth duck in my bathroom from our honeymoon at the Poly. Besides, those washcloths don't cost a dollar, they cost like maybe 2-3 cents each. They are the thinnest, roughest, scratchiest washcloths on earth. We are not talking about finely combed Egyptian cotton here. They probably waste more money just washing and drying the stupid things then getting rid of them. They should be throwing these animals at us when we leave, just for putting up with those horrible like 50 thread-count sheets that they make us sleep on. EEEWWW. It's like sleeping on sandpaper.

That is exactly what I said, that if you ask they are not going to tell you No.

There is difference in policy and what they enforce if a guest comes to them and wants one.

Last summer, after a 10 day stay at POR, our mousekeeper had left 8 towel animals for DD. 5 large ones and 3 small ones (made of wash cloths). We took a picture each day of the new animal and the cute position she had arranged them in and then on our last night we arranged them all on the bed and took pic for our scrapbook at home. Well, when it came time to pack...we took the 3 small ones and left the 5 large ones on top of the TV armoir for the next family! No way that was all going to fit in our already heavily souvenir loaded suitcases! My DD still has the 3 tiny ones in her bedroom as momentos! As to the 5 large ones...who knows...maybe another family was fortunate enough to enjoy them as we did....or perhaps they made it to towel heaven!!! :laundy: Either way...thanks to our mousekeeper for putting a smile on our faces at the end of each day....we couldn't wait to see what was waiting for us! :flower3:

And I'd be willing to bet you left her a big fat tip. Now I'm not saying that maids ARE intentionally telling you to take things (that they have no right to give away) just to get a bigger tip out of you, but I am saying it is a possibilty. I mean, as long as we're continuing such an inane debate, we may as well acknowledge all possibilities.

Ok guys, bottom line.....who cares???? Seriously?? Get over it! There are more important things in life that to worry about someone taking home a towel animal.:confused3

Someone earlier in the thread said that the front desk also said that they could take the towel animals. They aren't getting tipped for that, they have nothing to gain by saying that.
