We are getting ready to leave for the hospital in a few minutes. I am taking my DW(48) to the hospital for hip replacement surgery this morning. Her left hip is full of arthritis and must be replaced. We would both greatly appreciate all the prayers and pixie dust you can send our way, and please don't forget out DD 12, she's quite worried about her mom going through this surgery.
Thanks so much, I will send a post later this evening after I return home.

On behalf of my DW, DD, and myself, I would like to say a GREAT BIG THANKS for your prayers, well wishes, and pixie dust. My DD and I just arrived home from the hospital. It has been on VERY LONG DAY. We arrived at the hospital at 6am, my DW(Hazel) was taken back to the pre-op area at 6:10. Her surgery was scheduled for 7:30. I was in the O.R. waiting room when I received word that Hazel was taken into the O.R. at 8:45. The surgeon came out to talk to me at 11:30. He told me not only was Hazel's left hip full of arthritis, but the hip was also somewhat deformed which required additional surgery time.
The hospital was so busy with surgeries(cancellations from last week's 21 inch snowfall), that there were no beds available.
I left the hospital at 3pm to pick up my DD from school and bring her back to the hospital to see mom, not knowing if she was still in the O.R. recovery room or not. We stopped at Mickey D's for a quick bite(I hadn't eat all day), and got back to the hospital at 4:30. We checked at the information booth and found out that Hazel had just been assigned a room(thank goodness)!
Hazel is doing quite well considering what she went through today. She ate a little of her supper, then went off to sleep. When we first walked in, she was laying there with her eyes wide open and a smile on her face, that made me feel much better.
Now it's time for me to try and relax a little, so I'm going to close for now.
Thanks again for everything. I'm going to print off all your messages and take them up to the hospital so Hazel can read them!
You're the GREATEST!!!

I took all your get well messages up to the hospital last night and Hazel read all of them, she was really touched and somewhat shocked by the 25 pages of messages that I printed off from all you WONDERful and MAGICal DIS'ers.
It appears that Hazel will be going to the stepdown unit at the hospital on Th or F, then be there for a few more days. Hopefully by next Tu, after I take Angelina to get her braces off, that we will be able to pick Hazel up from the hospital and bring her home. It is very lonely around the house without her. She did spike a fever last evening, and she was put on antibiotics right away. I know this is common after surgery, I had a fever after my knee replacement surgery two years ago. Other than the fever, Hazel is doing quite well, she went for physical therapy Tu morning, and they had her walking with her walker and did quite well. Hazel said her pain was about a 5 or 6 on a scale from 1-10. Angelina has been a real trooper through all of this. I got her off to school on Tu, and we only forgot one thing, her gym clothes, luckily she had a pair of shorts in her locker. We sure need mom around to keep us straight!!! LOL!!!
For all the moms out there, whether you work outside the home or not, may I say I truly appreciate what you do!!! I'm glad I only have to play Mr. Mom for a short period of time!!!

Just got home from the hospital.....
..... and Hazel is doing better this afternoon. Her blood count came back up to where it should be with the one unit of blood she received. Some of the test results from the ultra sound have come in and so far it's looking very postitive(in a good way), whew, I can breathe again. There was some concern about possible hepatitis(sp), but it seems that has been ruled out.
As I was typing this Hazel called me from the hospital, the doctor just informed her that she will be moving from the surgical floor to the step-down transitional floor sometime later this afternoon. Whew, what a day!
I have an hour to lay down and unwind before Angelina comes home from school. I think I managed about 3 hours of sleep last night. I should sleep good tonight though, and with 6-10 inches of snow arriving tonight into Friday, I've already scheduled off from work tomorrow.
Catch y'all Later,
Thanks Again!!!

Hazel called as I was getting ready to go up to the hospital. The doctor had just left the room after telling her that two small polyps were found on her gall bladder. Hazel told the doctor that she could not deal with this right now, and another surgery, at this time, is out of the question. The doctor doesn't feel it is anything to be overly concerned about, but wants her to make an appointment to see him when she is up and about. So, the adventure continues!

Hazel celebrated her 49th Birthday in the hospital today. We had a small birthday party for her this evening. I am attaching a link to webshots.com if you would like to look at the photos click onto the link below, there are only 9 photos.
Hazel is scheduled to come home from the hospital this Wednesday, we have a meeting with her doctors Tuesday afternoon. The blood count in her liver was lower for two days, but it elevated again Sunday morning, Hazel's doc is going to keep any eye on it over the next few months. Other than that, Hazel is getting around real good, and starting to drive the nurses a little crazy, that's how I know, she is feeling better, I have to really look out when she comes home!!!
