Taking ds to see Palin

I just foudn out that Gov. Palin will be near me next wed. And I am thinking of taking my ds (13) out of school to see her. In fact he has to do a rather complicated election scrapbook for his civics class. Now do I tell the teacher up front why he's leaving school and after?

Absolutely take your DS out of school for this, and just be honest with the teacher. What an incredible opportunity and lesson in civics for your DS to participate in this! Also, if your family supports the McCain/Palin ticket, it is a wonderful opportunity for you to discuss your political beliefs with your DS by talking about Palin's speech together afterward.

even if you did not support the M/P ticket..it would be a good opportunity to discuss your political beliefs...
:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

I went to see G. Bush Senior many moons ago in a town nearby..and I was not going to vote for him...

:thumbsup2 Definately !!! It's his country, too & he is the future of this country.
If DS is interested in how our gvt. works may also look into state house/senate page for a day programs. It gives a great up close look at how our legislative branch actually works. It is free. Just need to write your local rep/senate member to find out qualifications (age) and see if they have a day opening.
In some schools, it does not count as a "missed" day when a student is attending a gvt. event. May want to check with your school.

I think it is very cool that you are giving your son the opportunity to see people who are making history speak during this monumental election. What a great way to get him interested in the political process. When I was about 11 my mother took me to see Hillary Clinton speak and I got to shake her hand - 15 years later I still remember this vividly!

Well, we just got back from seeing Gov. Palin. It was hot and tiring but it was worth it. I really don't know if my son was as excited to be there as I was but he was there, hopefully he'll remember it when he gets older. We were lucky enough to get within 10 yards from the stage. And all his teachers knew he was leaving school early and all supported him going. Now I'm ready for a nap after standing out in the heat for over 2 hours.
