I just foudn out that Gov. Palin will be near me next wed. And I am thinking of taking my ds (13) out of school to see her. In fact he has to do a rather complicated election scrapbook for his civics class. Now do I tell the teacher up front why he's leaving school and after?

Yes, I think you should tell the teacher upfront. I don't see why any teacher would have a problem with it.

Where is she going to be next Wed? I'm near Richmond.

I think it would be a great educational experience.

have fun.

Definitely take your son to see Palin (and Obama, and McCain, and Biden) if you get the opportunity. This election, no matter which way it ends, is history in the making.

Be up front with his teacher; it's a real learning experience.

Make sure you bring a dictionary and a map to correct all the mistakes;)

Also, Make sure you get there early. I tried to see McCain/Palin when they came to the KC area last month and was in line 3 1/2 hours before the event and did not get in, but was at the back of the area outside the building. Have a great time.

She's going to be at the Arthur Ashe Center on wed. I went to the website and it said you have to have tickets so I'm assuming that they will limit the number of people who get in.

You can print the tickets out online - a friend and I are going to see her in Richmond.

Definately tell your son's teacher up front. What a great educational experience, no matter which candidate. I'm sure your son will never forget it. Have fun. :)

Okay I was wrong, I was looking at something else. Palin is gonna be in Richmond on Monday the 13th!!

Sorry, I was checking this out on the internet, cooking dinner and helping ds study for vocabulary test. ARGH:confused3

I have tried to print off tickets and they don't print, don't know if it's my computer but I got in touch w/local office and they said they would have tickets tomorrow. My luck they'll run out before I can get there. Especially since school is only getting out 3 hours early on monday anyway.

Has anyone else been when they had tickets? I was wondering if they limit the number of tickets. I know the Arthur Ashe center doesn't hold that many people.

I agree with those who said tell his teacher ahead of time.

Thanks for posting this too; I wasn't aware they would be there. I knew about the VA Beach appearance, but not Richmond. I'm wondering with you about the ticket situation. The Center isn't all that big and there's not much parking in the area... I'm wondering why they don't have it at The Diamond next door. That would make a lot more sense since it would hold a lot more people. I want to go, but I've been/am sick and don't want to hoof it all the way from the DMV, which is where they normally send overflow parking for that area.

Please tell the teacher. I am sure she'll be very supportive! Your son will be able to add many things to his scrap book. My son had the same type of assignment four years ago.

My kids have seen Bush and Clinton. Both experiences have been memorable. Meeting Clinton in our backyard has to be tops and I didn't even vote for him!

Why would you even question whether or not to be up front with the teacher?

Yaaay!! I got the tickets this morning. I sent a email to ds social studies teacher letting her know he won't be in school and why. And funny thing, she didn't know about it and wanted the info to get tickets. I let her know the how-to and she got tickets and also. The kids get out of school at early that day so I'm wondering if SHE will be at school or just get there at the last minute. When I went and picked up the tickets the staffer said that I was guaranteed admission. Has anyone ever been to one of these things? Do you have to go through security or show any id?

I am sure you will go thru security.... walk thru metal detector and purse check.
we did at the obama rally i went to....
no id check at the door.....

hope you have a good time....

I agree with the general sentiment - be honest with the teacher and go for it! The election process is an education in itself :)

I'm glad that you were able to get the tickets. Have a good time!

You will probably have to go through security. I wouldn't bring anything with you except bottles of water and cameras. I think it's best to leave everything else behind ... I have been to some rallies where people were not allowed in with bags.
