Has anyone done this before? We are heading to Hilton Head Island this fall and want to bring our own bikes. Before you say we can rent them there, we have, but I'm not comfortable on them (too short) plus they have back pedal brakes and not hand brakes!

Since we have a bike rack that goes on the back of the trunk, has anyone had any issues at border security? We won't be able to open our trunk without taking the bikes and rack off.

Any thoughts, suggestions???

We've done it before (took our bikes to WDW for camping) if they insist on looking in your trunk then you will probably have to get out of the regular line and go over for an inspection and take your bikes off.

We've done it many times- no problems but they have never done more than have us open sliding door on van except for once and we had to pull in and all kids and us got out and they "inspected" while we stood in building- there was no way they did much as everything appeared as it was and we had 4 kids, one mini van full of camping stuff......the only trouble sometimes they can't read license plate number and we have to tell them it......

We took our bikes camping to Disney many years ago too (before 9/11) so there was no issues.....but now, they could ask to see whats inside the trunk. My DH informed me our backseat folds down, so that's a possibility, but I guess we'll need to be prepared to take them off if they ask us to.

By the way, I see your going to Disney soon. Have a GREAT time!!!

I forgot about the license plate possibly not being visible. We'll keep that in mind. Thanks.
