Where would be a good place to take my aunt (92) to in Downtown Disney or resort hotel ( which doesn't require theme park admission), who we are visiting in Anaheim. Can you just have dinner at the GC without admission? Are there any character dinners? She would really enjoy watching my kids meet the characters.

There is a character breakfast at DLH. It is Goofy's kitchen. Pretty expensive and you will want to make reservations before, but we think it is worth it. The food is good and it is geared toward adults and children. I'm sure your aunt would enjoy it.

Yes you can eat at any of the hotels without admission. The only dinner Character meal is Goofys, Breakfast there is a character meal at every hotel (Minnie and friends at Paridise, Chip and Dale at GCalifornian, and Goofys at DL Hotel)

Another fun experiance is Rainforest

Goofy's Kitchen is a fun good place to eat and pretty much the only Character dinner outside of the parks. Othrer good places to go that are not super expensive,(and without characters) are...
Hook's Point at the Disneyland Hotel
Storyteller Cafe (No story teller is present) at the grand Californian
The Rainforest Cafe at Downtown Disney
Tortilla Joes at Downtown Disney
Ralph Brennan's at Downtown Disney

More expensive places to try would be...
Grandville's Steak House at the Disneyland Hotel
Napa Rose at the Grand Californian

I also enjoyed dinner at Storyteller's Cafe and Hook's Pointe. Napa Rose looked really beautiful when I went on the GC tour, but we didn't have time to have dinner there.

For Downtown Disney, I really enjoyed Naples (Italian food).
