Taking an ecv and transferring to villa

Hi,

I've been to Orlando several times, unfortunately my mobility has really deteriorated recently so I have been pricing mobility scooters. So far the cheapest quote is $380 from randy's which given the current exchange rate is quite expensive. I am seriously thinking of buying my own mobility scooter for using at home, and this would let me take it with me to florida. I understand the airline will allow me to take a scooter without it being regarded as additional baggage allowance, my problem will be that we have only hired an intermediate car and we are travelling with 2 adults and 3 kids so I really don't think it will be big enough. It will be fine once the luggage is out but not with the cases. We booked the car and paid for it last year and upgrading is now considerably more so it is not an option. Does anyone know how much it would cost for a taxi from MCO to Highlands reserve or is there any other way I could get it transported out? Would they allow you to leave it at the airport and then return later that day to pick it up?

Last year we had 2 extra friends with us so we were concerned about it we asked the airline and were told we could leave the mobility scooter at lost baggage till we unloaded. We managed to fit everything I drove and every one else had a carrier on their lap

thanks for the reply. Did they give you a ticket/slip so that you could go back and collect it?
Also having never used a wheelchair or ecv in the past I am not sure how much space either would take up in the car. Having looked at ecv's on the web I see that they fold down and come apart but just not sure how much space they will in fact take up and if an intermediate car will be big enough.

A lot depends on the size of the ECV. How small they fold down to can vary.

Hi we never used it but I believe they said we would use the ticket they put on it from the flight. Mine comes apart in 3 pieces so it fits in a fairly small trunk without a problem. We called lost baggage before the flight to ask they were great and very accommodating

I am waiting on a wheelchair at the moment but know how long it will take with waiting lists etc. We need to do a bit of research on the ecv to find out which one would suit me and also I think I need to look at individual types to see how the come apart to fit in the car etc. We travel at the beginning of June so I will need to get myself moving. Am I right in thinking that I need to notify the airline that I have mobility problems and will be taking an ecv? I will also ask them if it would be ok to leave it at the lost baggage desk in case we cannot fit it in the car and need to do a return journey.

I hope you have better luck then I did. I applied for a scooter it took 3 months for me to see a therapist to determine what would be best for me they decided a powerchair would be best the only problem is because of my issues I can't get in and out of one without hurting myself. I ended up buying an older used Pace Saver scooter on my own. Last fall a friend gave me a much newer Pride Sonic. Even if I could use the powerchair it would have cost me over $1200

I have been told that there is a waiting list of 2-3 months in our area for wheelchairs. I need to buy the ecv myself though so I need to do some research and then visit some of the stores that stock them. I just feel that with the ecv I will be able to maintain my independence.

I wish I had gotten one long ago it's hard to admit (at least for me) that you need to use an ECV so I waited way too long. I love mine I can do so much more now
