Taking alcohol on cruise

OK, I am confused.

Can you check-it? without ice and in your luggage of course

or

Must you put it in your carryon?

I don't want to lug it around the buffet and pool before we are allowed to our rooms.

I drink Malibu and Pineapple juice, what I plan on doing is packing a bottle of Malibu, (I bought 4 bottles when I was in St. Maarten in October, only $7.00 per bottle!!) and either the little cans or a large can of Pineapple and a can opener in my suitecase. Along with some old Disney Mugs (the refills from the resorts), then just fill up while in the room and off we go!! Most cruise lines frown upon bringing your own beverages, but if they don't see it what can they say! Does anyone know if they have Pineapple juice on the ship, that would save alot!

Another question, we just got off the Carnival Fantasy, they offered little puney cups for the free Ice Tea and apple juice, would there be a problem of using the Disney mugs for the free beverages???

Thanks

When you check in and board the ship, you have your room key at that time. You can bring your carryon to the room and then go off to the buffet.

Maybe I'm not remembering correctly -- anyone?

I carried two water bottles. One with water and one with light rum. I then bought an unlimited soft drink stamp. I pored the rum into my coke. However, I found that I did not really drink that much and I also wanted a "Bahama Mama" and other drinks.

Rae519.........what doesn't go with the shrimp??

When I check on board I have a carryon suitcase with wheels....fits two cases perfectly. I wheel it to our room (we usually board after 1:00 p.m. We always come from WDW) We have never had to wait for a room. I just wheel it down and stack them in the fridge. I usually chill some on ice first.....it does take a while to cool off.

I had read that you can't get to the cabins till after 1, or something like that?? I'd love to find out differently!

Perhaps we arrived around lunchtime last time, thus the reason we could go to the room immediately. I just don't remember!

Its not easy getting old and not being able to remember . . . I just hate to see what happens to my mind when I get into my 50's! ;)

When we were having our disembarkation breakfast our server told us that Parrot Cay was where all of the "early arrivals" came for lunch before the cruise. I assumed that it was because the stateroom and buffet weren't ready.

Horsemeat.
I refuse to eat horsemeat, but everything else is pretty much fair game to me.

Had venison tonight, and a small salad with....wanna guess????
SHRIMP!

Yup, everything goes with shrimp but horsey!

Question: is that corkage fee of $15 if you just bring the wine to your table? Or only if they actually have to open it for you? What I mean is -is that a fee they charge just for you bringing it to your table- even if you have your own corkscrew and open it YOURSELF?
Or is it a fee they charge for opening it for you?
I'm hoping the latter- because if they charge it just if they see you have your own wine at your table and opened it yourself/etc- that seems very cheap (of DCL) to me... in other words, going to make their money off of you regardless of how they do it (either selling you alcohol or charging you for bringing your own!).

clarabellecow....to answer your question about using your resort mugs at the beverage station....

DCL will NOT let you do this beause of the virus thing. You can, however, fill up one of the DCL provided cups at the beverage station and then transfer the beverage to your resort mug. DCL just does not want your mug (or anyone else's) up against the dispensers.

We saw a teen on our last cruise take a cup and scoop ice from a DCL cooler into it, put it to his mouth and then pour the ice back into the cooler. The CM was upset because he just contaiminated the whole cooler of ice. She took it away and brought out a new, full cooler.

They are very strict about the virus thing.

from what I have been told the corkage fee is actually $17.50......a $15.00 fee plus they very kindly add the gratuity for you, and then leave a blank space on the charge so you can tip even more. Yikes.
But I could be wrong. It's happened before. I really thought that Brittany Spears marriage would last forever, so go figure.

That's not a DCL thing. That's a restaurant standard thing. They make the most $$ off alcohol, so why would they want to lose it by letting you bring in your own. Most places do not even let you do that, but those that do will charge you the fee to make up for some of the lost revenue. You'll be charged this if the bottle is open or not.

lampy - DCL states in the cruise docs that they prefer if you choose to bring beverages on board to please bring them in your carry-on not your checked luggage. Although there have been a few posters on this board that said they have had no problem with putting it in their checked luggage, just imagine what would happen if something broke. What a mess!:earseek: Also, I believe that if you bring it in a carry-on that is a cooler, they do not want you to have ice on it.

When we board, and it is usually early, we go straight to our cabin and place our carryon bags out of the way. Usually like in the closet. I know they say the cabins are not ready until 1:30 but we do not like carrying all that stuff around. Sometimes the cabin is ready and sometimes it is not. We just usually tell the cabin steward that we are dropping off our carry-ons and we will be back later when the cabin is ready.

Thanks LeiLani

That's the concise answer I was looking for.

On our last DCL cruise we had one bottle of wine that we packed in our checked-luggage. It was bubble wrapped and in a large ziploc bag. We arrived early and after the buffet in Parrot Cay, I tried to get access to our room. The elevators were blocked by a CM and she would not let me go to the room. I didn't push too hard and try to find the stairs so we just went to the pool and changed in our swimsuit from our carry-on. The wine was fine. I opened it in the room and took it to Palos for our dinner and was charged a corkage fee, even though it was open. I understood their policy and was in agreement. We are very fusy regarding our wine selection and the cruise wine seemed overpriced for their small selection.

This time I want to take some beer and pop, in plastic bottles maybe, as well but don't want to check-it or carry it to the pool after the buffett. I will take your advice and just carry-it on and take it to the room after the buffet.
