Taking a taxi a grocery store?!

We are staying in property, but wanted to go to a store for cases of water, snacks and some adult beverages. Can you get a taxi to pick you up at your hotel, take you to a local store, wait and return you to your hotel? I'm hoping there is a close store that sells alcohol and groceries.

If not, maybe rent a car?

Its not a good idea to ask the taxi to wait while you shop. He'd keep the meter running! Imagine the cost?

Have you considered garden grocer? They will deliver to your disney resort. Plus they do have adult beverages!

I totally agree. You'll spend more money taking a taxi, plus waste time. You can order a few days before your arrival from Garden Grocer, and have it delivered the day you check in.

We just got back and did that - got lots because we were at the BWV and had a full kitchen (breakfast foods, 2 cases of Dasani, soy milk, snacks, and beer & wine). It was totally worth it, and from now on that's what I'm doing!

I agree with PP's that you are most likely better off having groceries delivered. If you have a taxi wait while you shop, they will keep running the meter and the cost will really add up. You will definitely save time and probably save money as well by ordering through garden grocer or another grocery delivery company.

A year ago I took a taxi from OKW to a Publix, had the driver return in 1 hour and then back to OKW, with tip it was $45.00.

I agree next time I would use Green Grocer. Its about the same money and saves time.

AKK

We take easy to pack snacks, like granola bars, bag of bagels, instant oatmeal packets, etc. And can also pack Brita filter water bottles. I believe the Hess station across the street from BWI has beer & wine? The resort stores also has a selection of food, and alcohol. You'd have to weigh the cost of cheaper food prices, but paying for a cab vs buying at resort store. I think the added price of a cab would cost more thrn buying stuff at resort. The resorts that have DVC usually have a larger selection of food, like WL, AKL, etc.

I made the mistake of taking a taxi to Walmart to pick up a cheap camera when mine broke.

I had him wait for me outside - it was the most expensive taxi ride I've ever done. 60.00 in the taxi ride alone because of that. And the camera wasn't that great.

Next time I know I'll catch a taxi to Best Buy, get the taxi guys number and just call them after I'm done.
That way I can get the camera I really want and then if I get stuck in a line, I won't be ready to flip out on the people in line in front of me for being too slow!

I would also think it would be better to do it that way for groceries too. Have them take you to your favorite grocery store (mine would be Publix), get the phone number to call when you are done, and then call when you are in line to check out. Much cheaper that way.

Or just do a Garden Grocer order......

Or just take a bus to DTD and walk across the road to the Hess gas station and buy what you want and take the bus back to your hotel.

I have used wegoshop.com to deliver groceries 7 times and I highly recommend them. I believe I save the delivery fee just over the savings on buying a case of water versus buying individual bottles in the parks.
You create your own list and they will shop at the store you request. I request Publix. They do not mark up each item like Garden Grocer does and they give you the original store receipt with your delivery. The give you a 30 minute delivery window, versus the 2 hour window of Garden Grocer.
We order, OJ, Cranberry Juice, soda, water, beer, wine, assorted fruit and bananas, breakfast foods and cheese and crackers and other snacks.
Good Luck

just order from gardengrocer.com

Bell services will accept the order and keep items cold or frozen. :)

They charge $19 for delivery, $2.00 gas surcharge and 10% gratuity makes for an expensive case of water and that is all I need.

The delivery services are all too expensive for me! The Hess gas station is only slightly more than a grocery store and convenience of walking across the street from DTD works for me. They have pop, beer, snacks etc. for waaaay less than a delivery service charges if you only need a few things.

I agree with this! We used Garden Grocer last time because I wanted bananas and milk and beer and snacks. WAY too many fees! Another thing I didn't like is that I had to wait around the room for Bell svcs to bring it to me.

This time, I am packing a box to check in on the plane (free on AA or SW), and I'm packing dry snacks, plastic individual wine bottles (also in a ziplock), and a toaster ($8 at target), bagels, and an insulated lunch sack with ice packs and cream cheese, apple sauce pouches and dry cereal.

Then I will buy beer and milk at the gift shop at the resort. It will be more than I spend at home, but WAY cheaper than what I would pay for a delivery service.

As for water- many stores will ship for free to the resort for you. I've heard people mention staples and Costco. But we will just drink the free water in the park. Any QS location will give you a cup for free.

If you are staying at an Epcot resort, there is a Hess station in walking distance.

Thanks for all of the ideas everyone. The grocery delivery sounds good. I just need a place that has vodka and we aren't really beer drinkers. I wonder if they have that in the resorts shops.

Resort gift shops do have a decent variety of booze but you're looking at fifth prices for pints...

Just a suggestion about water. The resorts we've stayed in sell a gallon of water in their store for $2.99, about what you'd pay for a bottle of water in a Disney park. If you can come up with a couple water bottles, you can just keep refilling them from the gallon container. The gallon jug fits in the small fridges in the resort rooms. That way, it isn't necessary to have to figure out how to buy and transport a case of water.

Oh, this I did not know. We are staying at POFQ. Do you know if they sell this? We are bringing our filtered Camelbak water bottles with us, but if we decide those aren't doing the trick, it would be great to have a back up option.

Also, I had noticed that Hess gas station across from DTD on the map. What sort of things do they sell there? I'm thinking we will be interested in breakfast items. Bars?

And lastly, anyone use one of the prepaid postal boxes to ship some stuff from home to the resort? How would you address such a box? Or a shipping address from Costco online (for example), for that matter?

This is why we take a car service from the airport to our resort instead of ME. We make a quick stop at Walgreens for diapers, formula and snacks. And there is a liquor store next door to grab a few bottles of wine.
