Taking a taxi a grocery store?!

Step 1) Take a MEARS taxi from your resort to Walmart or where ever you choose to shop. Do not have the taxi wait.

Step 2) From your cell phone CALL Mears taxi service 1-407-422-2222 when you are finished shopping and they will come to pick you up.

It is that simple!

I like Walmart at 3250 Vineland rd (SR535) Kissimee Florida because they have fresh produce, liquor, groceries, pool noodles and everything else a Walmart has at traditional Walmart prices, not the jacked up prices that the supermarkets closest to WDW or Garden Grocer charges. I had a bad experience with Garden Grocer sending me dry withered produce so I am done with them.

The total round trip cost for a taxi to this Walmart, depending on your resort location and amount of traffic/time of day, is between $40-50 dollars. It's much better than renting a car and I like how I can get anything I need.

Do Not be tempted to take the "Gypsy" cabs that roam the parking lots of these stores for your trip back. Many of them don't have meters and the price tends to increase once you are on your way with threats that they will leave you on the side of the road if you don't pay up.

Mears is a reputable, Disney approved Taxi service. They are welcomed on Disney property and they are reliable transportation. I have done this many times and I recommend it.

Great info everyone!! Thanks for taking the time to post. I looked in the grocer website and they pretty good. It would be nice to go to a store in person, but also nice to not have to leave the property and just have it waiting for us.

Not that it's cost effective, but we always rent a car. When we get our car at MCO, we first head to the grocery store (Publix) en route to the resort. We LOVE stocking up on our favorite goodies: beer, wine, water, soft drinks, special snacks, some baked goods and munchies.... It's fun to have snacks and breakfast at the resort. The price is reasonable, and frankly the quality is very competitive with Disney food.

I realize a rental car isn't cheap, but we sure make good use of one on our WDW trips. :earsboy:

Thanks for all of the ideas everyone. The grocery delivery sounds good. I just need a place that has vodka and we aren't really beer drinkers. I wonder if they have that in the resorts shops.

I wish I had known this last week. I heard that the Norway pavilion at Epcot has good vodka for a very low price!

They charge $19 for delivery, $2.00 gas surcharge and 10% gratuity makes for an expensive case of water and that is all I need.

I agree, it would be too expensive for just the case of water. But we buy much more than that. For example, we buy all of our breakfast needs, which saves us a lot of money (and time each morning as well).
And for what I make, my time is very valuable, and it is worth it to me to not have the hassle of having to go and shop myself. I am on vacation too.
It works out for us.
I have read here that both Staples and Costco will ship cases of water. Perhaps you can look into that as an option for you.
Good Luck to you.

We use one of the grocery delivery companies if we need a largish amount of stuff...makes up for the delivery costs. But, if we just need a little bit, including water, we trek over to the Hess station, across from BW. We have learned to take a rolling bag with us tho...makes the walk back soooo much better!!
Otherwise, using the resort shop is okay.....as long as you're only buying a few things.

Last year when we stayed at POR, when we got to our hotel, we took a taxi to Winn Dixie, Shoppes of Lake Avenue, 11957 S. Apopka-Vineland Road. Once we got there the taxi driver said that he was going next door to get something for dinner and would be back to take us back to POR. Didn't leave the meter running and gave us approx 30 minutes to shop. Had to get a "winn dixie" card to use, kinda like a dillons card here in Kansas. That's okay. We got what we needed, met back up with the taxi driver and back to POR we went. Can't remember the cost, but it was worth it. Got everything we needed and didn't have to pay the high cost of the resort.

You can get Smirnoff and Absolute in the WDW resort gift shops. As someone mentioned, they're small bottles (pints) for almost the price of a fifth.

You can get a liter of vodka at the shop in Norway. When I was there in October it was $21.95/bottle. For obvious reasons you can't buy it and just stroll around Epcot. They insist on shipping it to package pickup at the park exit. You will be warned to allow at least 3 hours for the package to make it to the front of the park. So don't do like I did and show up just before the park closes thinking you can pick up a bottle to take back to your room.

Don't know what you use as a mixer with your vodka, but I like lemon-lime soda. You can buy two liter bottles of Sprite in the resort gift shops. Still overpriced, but not as bad as buying smaller bottles.
