Is it worth the hassle

I heard that it could get stripped in the Airport but what if it was bubble wrapped in the suitcase

I'm going in 3 weeks time  with my Daughter, Son in law and 2 Grandaughters and i know for a fact i'll be babysitting alone a few nights so taking the laptop would be ideal

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure about rules from the UK as I never brought a laptop with me from the there. But, I have travelled with one from state to state in the US. I had to have it in my hand luggage and take it out to put it through the xray machine seperately to everything else. It was no hassle other than that.

I travel on business quite often and always take a laptop with me on holiday. I have never heard of one being stripped down? Most times you will need to take it out of your hand luggage and put it in it's own tray as quackersnapps says, other times they will ask you to turn it on. If they have any concerns they have a machine which wipe the laptop down and then it 'sniffs' the laptop for explosives or something. I have been through some recently where I haven't even had to take it out.

Imagine the out roar if all the business passengers couldn't take laptops with them on the planes without risking them getting damaged by security.

Take your laptop if you want but I would always take it hand luggage where you can look after it all the way. I am going in April and the thought of not taking a laptop is scary! :scared1:

we have taken ours to disney twice last year and had no problems, we just had to take it out of the bag when we go through security.

It fits in the safe at the hotels as well which is good

I took my laptop last year - we used the laptop bag as one piece of hand luggage and it easily fit other bits and pieces like passports and magazines. It was x-rayed at Gatwick but that was all. Didn't have any problems and got free wifi at Tampa airport which killed time waiting to go home :thumbsup2

Took mine last year and it was fine, just had to take it out of bag to be x-rayed and that was it :goodvibes

I always take a laptop away with me.

Never had a problem at airports etc..

We take our laptop all the time. We have in a laptop bag and take it out for x-ray both at Manchester and Orlando. We have never been asked any thing about it.
Make sure you have free internet access at the hotel.

No problems at all. At Manchester Airport just left it in my hand luggage (it's one of those ultra small ones) and at Orlando Airport just put it in a tray with everything else.

Definitely do not put in suitcase. The TSA have the right to search your suitcase and you are supposed to leave cases unlocked.

We took ours without any problem. Like previous posters have said you will need to get it out of the bag and put it through the x-ray machines. On the way out at Gatwick my DH was asked to turn ours on and they swobbed it to check for I dont know what, but whatever it was didn't show up :rotfl2:.

We found it really useful having the laptop with us for calling home via Skype and for downloading all the pic's

We took ours in January and had no problems, just make sure that it's ready and out of its bag for them to inspect the security got a bit shirty when we didn't realise that we had to do this, we were carrying two toddlers and buggies too and it kind of was the last thing on our minds! :)

love updating facebook while were away and backing up all our photos.
We have in as handluggage and in a laptop bag and take it out for x-ray no problems :goodvibes

Took 3 with us at Xmas, taking 2 in May, been taking them for years with no problems.
There were changes to security a year or so back which gave them more rights, they can look at your hard drive and take a copy of it. The media blew it up like always and gave a lot of mis-information. The average traveller will have no problems taking laptops although due to amount of electronics I take we do get extra checks at MCO every trip without fail these days. Usually they are very good about it but got one security officer last year that was a pain, I gave him a bit of backchat which he took a disliking to.
