Taking a baby to the Studios

We got annual passes before I knew I was pregnant and they expire in a few weeks. I'd like to take my daughter now that she's old enough to go out and get some cute pictures. My daughter will be 9 weeks old when we go next weekend. Anyone have any tips? We are local, so no hotel needed. I'm breastfeeding and wondering how the baby centers are?

We went when our second child was 2 months old. We also had a barely 3 year old with us though. A 9 week old is easier than a mobile child in many cases. I didn't use the baby care centers at most places but just nursed wherever. I think the only park I used one at was Sea World. So, no comments on how the baby care centers are, but if you choose to nurse in public, it's not a big deal there at all.

Get some sort of carrier if you don't have one already. I used a ring sling, like a Maya Wrap, and my daughter was in it pretty much all day. The barely 3 year old used our stroller. She was happier in the sling and it made waiting in lines easy. Do take a stroller anyway, as some babies will nap better in the stroller - she did at 8 months but not at 2 months. Take one with full recline. I used the sling opened up over the stroller to block out the sights to help her sleep too. Again, that was at 8 months and not needed at 2 months for her - but I can't remember if 2 month olds need that sometimes. If she's not used to a carrier, then try nursing her in it to get her used to it ASAP.

We have a bjorn carrier that she hates and a travel system stroller that she adores. I was planning on rotating between the two. We wouldn't make it a full day .

The Bjorns I remember are not good for babies' hips (the Snugglie style) and many babies hated them. So, unless those have changed, I'd just hold the baby in line and use the stroller then. Babywearing can make things so much easier, but she's still small enough that you can likely get around it for this trip until she gets used to a carrier. If you do want to look into carriers, you likely can find directions for making your own ring sling online. That's what I used - from newborn to 3 years old. There's lots more options out there too.

No baby centers ! Argh! Baby had a good day though, but Studios is consistently the least infant friendly park.

Thanks for sharing! Were you able to take your baby on any rides? We are going to WDW in three weeks with my daughter who will be 4 months and we were thinking of skipping US/IOA this time around due to our perception that the parks aren't that baby friendly.

They're not baby friendly, although the cast members and the characters made a big deal over her.

As for rides - The Merry Go Round. I think she could have also gone on the Dumbo styled Fish ride. Other than that, she couldn't go on anything.

Studios doesn't sell hand sanitizer in the parks either (Disney and Seaworld do).

I didn't have any problems with a baby there, it was quite easy. I don't use the baby care centers at Disney though, so I didn't notice that they did or didn't have them but I thought I remembered them having something. They did have changing tables in the restrooms. As for rides, rider swap is very easy and you both go in the line together, so you're actually not away from the rest of your party very long. They also have single rider lines a lot more than Disney, so this makes it easy if just one adult wants to do the ride.

There are things that baby can do - look up each park and anything without a height requirement. US/IOA do have more height requirement rides than Disney but we still had plenty to do, plus a baby that age doesn't care about missing out on rides. Despicable Me should have the seats that don't move. It was Jimmy Neutron last time we did it and that's what we did - use the non-moving seat for me and baby and the older kids and hubby did the moving seats. We did Terminator at US. We did some of the shows, like Animal Actors and Sinbad. We did play areas like Curious George and Camp Jurassic. (There's also a Barney area but we skipped that). Even though a baby that age can't exactly explore the play areas, there's lots to look at. Poseiden's Fury is for all ages and we did that. The characters were wonderful in the storytime since we were able to get up close and not wait in any lines and saw several characters. There's also a parade at US.

They do have baby rooms at the first aid stations of both parks...
They have a nursing station at First Aid - not a baby center like you'd find at Disney. It wasn't a very nice place to nurse - cluttered and kinda dirty. Not impressed. If I wasn't nursing every. 3-4 hours this wouldn't have mattered that much, but I am. Like the poster above me pointed out , there are plenty of shows you could take a baby to and there are characters to meet. Studios is different than Disney in that many of the kiddie rides have height restrictions (like most of Seussland). I personally would never go here for just the shows. You can ride swap on many of the rides, but personally, I don't like to. I'd rather ride things with my husband and baby than without them.

So this is just the nurse in me saying this- bring your own hand sanitizer and use it frequently. It is cold and flu season- which means RSV season- in many parts of the country now. Probably common sense, but just wanted to throw that out there.

Hope you guys have a great time!

Most nurses I know would say wash your hands thoroughly and often, and only in a pinch use sanitizer. You are the first nurse I've known to skip straight to sanitizer.

I found that wearing my baby protected him as well when out in public, along with, of course, nursing him. Nothing like getting homemade, exactly for the bugs he was being exposed to, antibodies!

We did, we just ran out. I love Studios, but I'm canceling our passes when the year is up. Maybe I'll get them again after I'm done nursing.
