I want to book in one year from now but I'll have a 10 month old & I'm not 100% sure that he'll be big enough to go. Or if I'll be ready to take him. I have been told when he's about 15 months he'll be good for sure. But, we r ready to plan a vacation & the thought of waiting over a year is killing us. Plus, I think May 2011 would be a nice time to go. So my question is if I want or feel the need to change the dates to a later date [say 6 months later] can I do that w/o a big hassle? I just don't know what to expect as a new mom & want to get this planning show on the road. I just don't want any regrets. Any advice? :goofy::dumbo:

Well I'd suggest a little bit earlier than even 10 mos ~ IMO 10 months would be easier than 15 mos ~ + the weather will be better *we visited last early Oct. and it was miserably hot & humid ~ I think 6-8 months would be ideal, sleeping through the night, still small enough to "wear" comfortably *sling, mei tai etc. and will stay put in a stroller, once babies/toddlers are mobile they might not want to sit in a stroller *my DD was very anti stroller just before her 2nd B-day when we visited family in Chicago.

We took DD just after her first birthday. We had a great time. She loved the rides and the characters. We just had to plan our day around her schedule and overall she did fantastic.
If possible stay on the monorail! We stayed at Poly which was great. I could put her in her stroller in the room and wheel her straight to MK, no carseat, no bus!
By 12 months she was down to just one nap a day. We went to the parks right after breakfast and stayed until just after lunch. Then we took a break in the afternoon to let her nap and returned to the parks just before dinner. At 10 months my DD was still taking a morning nap and an afternoon nap so I’m not sure that I would have taken her then .Of course every kid is different, some are content to nap in the stroller... not DD she has to be in a bed with her blankies or she wakes up grumpy.
I think you could have a great trip as long as you are flexible.

Do it.

Do it.

Do it.

Do it.

AND TAKE LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF PHOTOGRAPHS !!!!!!!!!!

Definetly do it! We took DD when she was 8 mos. and it was perfect. She loved the characters and all teh rides. Then we went again when she was 20 mos. and it was a different kind of perfect because she could interact with the characters and loved them, but didn't really like the rides. Now we're going when she'll be 2 yrs. and 8 mos. and I can't wait to see what she likes. One last time while she's free!

Yup, just work around the baby's schedule and make use of the baby care centers and you'll be set! Much easier than you think! And it's so much easier to take them when you can just open up a jar of baby food and feed them anywhere! Check out A Baby's Best Friend for crib rental....such a life saver!

ITA!!!! We took both my DS and DD at around 6 months and it was so easy I couldn't believe it. Both of them were fascinated with the characters, slept in the stroller, and if I did have to carry them they weren't too heavy. DD is now 11 mos. and to be honest I don't know what she'd be like if I took her now - heck I'm even getting nervous about taking her at 17 mos. b/c once that girl started crawling she does not do well being strapped in her stroller. Plus now she is getting so heavy I can't carry her for long periods like I used to - did I mention she's not a fan of her stroller :lmao: Honestly though I think any age is a great age to take your kids to disney you just need to adjust to their age and learn to go with the flow! Have a great time!

I agree with this, too. We have taking our kids every year since they have been born, starting at 6 months. 6 months was waaay easier than 18 months. At 18 months the flight was a nightmare, we had to cancel all of our dining reservations (because she did not want to sit still) and she refused to get in her stroller. At 2 1/2 it became easier again. Since our second is going to be 18 months at our next typically scheduled trip, I have even suggested skipping Disney for another year because it was so tiring. (Granted, I was pregnant with #2 when we were there with #1 at 18 months, so that may have influenced my feelings).

I have very found memories of all 3 trips, but the 18 month one was definitely my least favorite.

She was great!
At that age, she was content to stay in the stroller and just watch everything, but was sturdy enough to sit up on rides, not too heavy on buses and was able to hang on to me!

She was also beginning to eat more solid food and nurse less, I don't think I had to breastfeed in the parks at all. We had a grocery delivery with diapers/babyfood.

I agree with pp that 10 mos. is actually easier than a 15 mo. old., as i said- it went really smoothly for us! She is now 2 and is a huge Mickey fan.. wonder of she remembers him?!

Go! Took DD at almost 10 months (before she was completely mobile) and that trip was SOOOOO easy. Going again in a week and she is 17.5 months and am kind of dreading the trip. Now that she is totally mobile, fears nothing, and won't sit in the stroller unless eating a snack I am worried this trip won't be so much fun. I absolutely agree with the poster who said it is MUCH easier to take a 10 month old than an 18 month old. Let us know what you decide!

You'll have fun at either age, but 10 months will probably be a little easier since chances are the baby won't be walking yet. Once they learn to walk, they want to practice their new skill and it is hard to allow them to walk a lot in disney with all of the people there. They also aren't as content to be held in the lines once they start walking but will take off if you put them down.

Of course, if you have an early walker, he/she may be walking by 10 months and then that whole theory goes right out the window, LOL! Two of mine walked at 13 months and the other walked at 12 months and that seems to be about average. I'd try to sneak the trip in before the walking stage.

You should go. My wife and I are taking our DD who will be 5 months old in June and we are going back in October so she will be 9 months old.

She will be easy to care for. Keeping up with the 2 1/2 year old DD and the 4 year old DS is going to be our hardest thing.

Go and enjoy your trip!
