Taking 6-year old and 15-month old

We're planning to visit WDW in late August, but my husband mostly wants to hang out at the pool and not deal with crowds at the parks. Any advice for taking 2 to the parks (if I do end up taking them by myself, so we can't split them up) with such different ages and interests? I know my son will want to go on rides the baby can't go on and I don't want him getting bored. Thanks!

Well you won't be able to take your 6 year old on various things the 15 month old can't go on. Bottom line. Plenty you can take both on but will certainly limit you. Either your husband has to go or you can only go on things the baby can go on. I don't mean this snarky but what other option would there be?

I wasn't sure if there were rides he could go on that I could go in line with him and then wait for him to ride (I mean it seems crazy and I doubt it, but I didn't know, which is why I asked). Or any recommendations of something special I could do for him in the parks so he feels like it's not just revolving around the baby. My guess is the answer is "no," but wanted to ask.

There are loads of rides baby can ride rest assured. We took my 15 month old last year with our 10 year old. But of course, I waited with baby on rides that the older child wanted to ride with my husband. I will be honest, I don't see many 6 year old ride rides alone at WDW, not sure if it can be done to be honest?? So that's why that never even crossed my mind. Maybe someone else will c hime in.

Kids have to be at least 7 to ride rides alone. And Disney has a policy that no one who isn't tall enough to ride the ride is allowed in the line. So no go there. Maybe leave the 15 month old with Dad a few mornings or afternoons to go on bigger rides? And do things together the rest of the time.

Kids have to be at least 7 to ride rides alone. And Disney has a policy that no one who isn't tall enough to ride the ride is allowed in the line. So no go there. Maybe leave the 15 month old with Dad a few mornings or afternoons to go on bigger rides? And do things together the rest of the time.

Thank you. That's why I guess it never crossed my mind in my reply above. I don't think I have ever seen a young child ride a ride at WDW alone like your local amusement park.

We are taking our two daughters, 6 years old and 15 months old, to Disney in March. I’ve asked my 6 year old for her “must do” list, while also explaining to her that we won’t be able do everything and this will be a different trip than in the past.

How many days are you going to the park? Would your husband compromise and come for a few of the days? Or, maybe he could watch the baby at the hotel one day and you take your son to Magic Kingdom so he can ride everything he wants.

If your husband really will not go, there are quite a few rides that do not have height restrictions. I would go over the list and make a game plan for the ones you would like to get to.

Will your little one go in a carrier? That would be a good idea while waiting in lines.

Thanks! This is what I was looking for. I think we might end up doing that (she'll need naps anyway) but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

I like the idea of doing a must list with my son. I was planning on 4 park days and would like my husband to at least go to magic kingdom, but wanted to plan just in case he doesn't. I have a carrier, but hadn't thought about using it in line when we can't have the stroller. Thanks!

Your oldest cannot ride alone, as others have pointed out. There is a lot you can do with both kids, but if your 6-year-old is anything like mine, he will see all the things he is missing out on and will be sad. You didn’t ask for opinions, so I’ll try not to give much of one here except to say that if my husband wasn’t going to participate in the parks, and my kids’ experience would be negatively impacted by that, I would take my mom (or someone else who wanted to go) with me.
