We are staying at POFQ and the sweet potato pancakes from Boatwrights look intriguing. I don't want to take the time to actually sit down at a TS for b'fast. but I have heard of ppl ordering takeout from TS places -- how does one do it? Can you call ahead (altho that seems like it would be impossible, since there aren't direct #s to the restaurants)? do you just go up to the podium w/out an ADR and ask to get takeout? I really just want to try an order of those pancakes!

Thanks....

Not all TS restaurants do take out. (This is especially true for the in-park TS restaurants, incidentally.) I'd call WDW's main operator, and indicate you need to speak to someone at the restaurant itself, because you have a special request.

The first time we did it at the Kona Cafe we did call the restaurant from our room at the Poly (not sure where we got the number), but they said they dont take orders over the phone. You have to go in and order in person. From then on thats what we have done with no problem. Of course, all restaurants could be different, but that was our experience.

Would it be worthwhile to start a list of TS restaurants that will do take outs? I'm sure there are lots of people with kids who would enjoy a nice meal back in their room so the little ones coudl sleep.

I know in May '05 there was a couple ahead of me trying to get take out at Mama Melrose. They were not taking any walk ups that night. The couple caused quite a scene because they couldn't be seated nor were they allowed to order take out. A manager was called and they continued to cause a scene until the people in line trying to check in finally asked them 'what part of no do you not understand?' They stormed out. Also last May my D-I-L and I tried to order a piece of grapefruit cake from the Brown Derby and were refused (although I've since learned that others have been allowed to do so in the past).

FYI: the sweet poatato pancakes and the trawberries with cream from PORS are wonderful by the way. Good luck!

The problem with ordering take out is the restaurants are not set up to supply an unlimited amount of food. They have enough food for the amount of tables. They have enough time to cook based on the amount of tables. People ordering take out throws a monkey wrench in the whole operation.

I have never seen any TS at WDW allowing take out.

Just FYI, Boatwright's Sweet Potato Pancake recipe is available here: http://allearsnet.com/din/rec_spp2.htm

Last December on our first night, our party had dinner at Spoodles, while DH stayed in the room. (He pulled a muscle in his back carrying the luggage up to the third floor). I asked the server if they would prepare a meal to-go so that I could take it to him. I don’t know if they made an exception because he wasn’t feeling well, or if it was because we were already in there eating, or if they do it all of the time, but she said they would be glad to. I really didn’t expect they would be able to do it, but I thought it would spare him eating a PB&J in the room.

One of the reasons we have really enjoyed staying at OKW was that you used to be able to order anything off the Olivia’s menu from Goods to Go and eat it in your villa. Like another poster stated, it was really nice being able to eat a nice meal in your room when the children were too tired to eat out. But last year, we were told they no longer have that service. I don’t know if it because of the DP or if became too much trouble, but we certainly missed it.
