Morning all!!

It's almost a year since our last WDW trip, and we can't afford to go for a couple of years as we have bills to clear off from my unemployment-ness this year!

So, i've foolishly pencilled in late May 2011, moved from June under advice from fellow DIS'ers as i like the quiet times! :cool1:

Now all I need to do is raise enough cash to clear my bills and save up for another florida trip! It's a long way off, but it will come round quickly....

Anyone got any suggestions on ways to make some extra cash? I've sold everything excess that i owned on eBay earlier this year, paper round is not an option (used to have one, brilliant for losing weight BTW, but they downsized the streets they do and it became totally non-worthwhile to do it, especially when we used to do 12 rounds, about ), and my wages are currently paying the household bills, rent etc...

Any thoughts appreciated!

:goodvibes

How about dog walking? Babysitting? Weekend cleaning jobs? Our last cleaners were £10 an hour and they were rubbish too  I'm not implying you'd be rubbish btw :lmao:

It's nice having a trip to look forward to isnt' it?! :thumbsup2

Have you thought about Avon or something similar? Not too sure how it works now but I did it years ago as a teenager and managed to make a decent amount of money at the time!

great news that you have a trip to look forward to, good luck raising extra cash

:yay: How exciting to have a new ticker and something to look forward to. :wizard: Good Luck with raising the dosh :yay:

I've just had a nosey at the avon website to see if i could gain any more info, you can earn up to 25% of the order value which isn't bad... i'd only do it if it's my local area (no point doing it and losing money on petrol if it's too far out!) so i've asked them the question!

Keep the ideas coming!

Booknut - good suggestions, but my own house gets cleaned at a weekend and i don't do babys - too afraid of breaking them!

Well i hope your pencilled dream of 2011 turns into a real holiday :wizard:.
I know you said your 'ebayed out',but what about a Boot Sale?.I kept our best stuff for ebay-Next-Gap-Mothercare-Adidas etc..clothes and made quite a bit.But toy's,dolls, dvd's,c.d's,cheaper clothes, nik nacks we sold at a boot sale a few weeks ago and was shocked to have made £216.40 .

Avon can make you a bit of money,as long as you have a wide circle of customers who order something regulary.I tried it for about 6months but only had a few people to ask+not everyone ordered something every time,so to be honest in my case it was'nt worth it.

Candle parties,Virgin Vie parties,Ann Summers parties-the list is endless with these.

Asda,Wilkinsons are just 2 comapanies who will be recruiting for Christmas jobs again-and as far as i know you can work up to 16hrs per week without losing any benefits.

Something i have always done is collect my 1p,2p,5p's,and then bank them.Since last year i have been saving every £2 coin i get+was very suprised at how quick they mount up.

Good luck.x.

Working full-time is not the issue, it's just finding something extra around it to save up with as i'm already working 40 hours a week to pay the household bills and clear my debts - i refuse to go on holiday again until my bills are clear!

Good idea about teh £2 coins :goodvibes

Sorry :goodvibes.
As for the £2 coins, after i posted i thought i would add mine up,and have saved another £42 in the last 2 weeks :thumbsup2.x.

I'm a £2 coin collector as well! I actually had nearly £500 for my holiday to LA/Mexico/Vegas last year when I opened it :thumbsup2 But I warn you it's a slippery slope, lol, I now can't physically spend a £2 coin! If I only have a £2 coin in my purse I'll actually go and take money out of the bank to avoid spending it, lol, people think its weird but you rarely get £2 coins (compared to other coins). I also have a change jar too, lol.

When I did Avon I got to choose what streets I did, and I literally got my own street and one round the corner so it was easy for me! The other thing I'd suggest if your own work would allow it if you could ask to hand a few out to people you work with? Someone who used to work in my own work did this and got a few orders from it.

If you have any online shopping to do or new insurance or credit cards to apply for do it through a cashback website - I use Quidco and have received around £100 for buying things I would have bought anyway. I am the same as you, determind to pay off bills that I ran up while up maternity leave before we book another holiday - good luck :thumbsup2

Good luck to you as well! We've booked the villa but we're close friends with the owners so they've pencilled it in and will ask us should somebody else enquire about our dates, at which point we'd have to make a firm decision! The main reason for me is to have a target to hit - i have more motivation this way to 'keep at it' so to speak than if i just said "we'll go once the bills are paid"... this way it's "we have to have the bills paid because we ARE going on XX date" :goodvibes

Yep, we're a member of Quidco - recently moved house so got £40 cashback for our house insurance with Lloyds and £100 for signing up to 3 Mobile Broadband - our new address only gets a crappy speed at great cost, so reasonably quick @ £15 a month with a decent cap (15Gb!) and the ability to cart it anywhere, coupled with the cashback made it a no-brainer!

I do the £2 coin thing too. I can't stand to see other people spend them, let alone spend them myself. :rotfl:

I don't understand how this one saves money, if I didn't spend my £2 coins I'd have to go to the bank and withdraw more cash so I can buy something I need with a note instead of a coin.

See this is why it's bad for me! LOL But you don't get £2 coins as often as other coins so when you do stick it in a tin. It soon adds up! I have over £200 in my tin at the moment!! There's been weeks or so at a time I haven't had any £2 coins at all!

So you're basically keeping your money in a tin instead of in the bank?

That is a great deal :thumbsup2 Another money making tip my SIL gave me at the weekend is ww .musicmagpie. co.u k/ - they give you around 30-50p per CD/DVD - good if you have all your music backed-up and don't use the actually CDs anymore. I'm not sure if I can part with any of mine but then they are just sitting at the back of a cupboard doing nothing so... :confused3  HTH xx

Excellent suggestion - DW has piles of CDs in the garage, i'll get her to go through and have a clear out - the only reason she hasn't got rid of them is because she wants to sell them!!!

Just found this website and thought of you http://fatbrain.co.uk/. I haven't used them yet but have added a few books to my sell basket and have made £16 so far (£4 odd for a Social Research book I haven't used in the 8 years since I graduated :thumbsup2). Only con I've found so far is that a lot of the books that I am putting in they aren't buying but you never know they might just be looking for something that you don't want anymore.

I cashed in some CDS/DVDs with Music Magpie and received my cheque no probs :thumbsup2

How are you guys getting on with you saving?
