I know Shula's discourages kids - offering a couple free hours at the childcare place there. But I like steak (have been to Shula's in Detroit once) and DD10 likes steak, and I'd like to go to a nice steakhouse sometime when we're down. Kids menu isn't an issue, because she's a carnivore like her dad. And at 10 she's old enough to behave through a dinner for 60-90 minutes, which is about my limit too.

Anyone want to talk me out of doing it?

No reason not to take her if it is something she would appreciate.
They serve the best quality meat on property and it is one of the best in Florida.

Make sure you look at the Restaurant.com thread on the budget board.
You can get a $25 off of $35 certificate for $2-$4 for Shula's.

I don't think it will be a problem, sounds like your 10 year old will do just fine. Some kids are really into fine dining, my daughter has always loved it. Going on cruises when she was younger really got her hooked.

Enjoy!

If you know your child can handle the length and setting of the meal, I see no reason not to take her. Almost every restaurant on Disney property expects kids in the dining room and happily accommodates their presence -- especially if they behave appropriately. I say trust your instincts here and book the dinner!

Shula's openly discourages children, so it is unlike all other Disney restaurants except for V&A's, which doesn't allow children.

Still the OP's child sounds mature and sounds like she would enjoy the experience and not be a distraction to other diners.

When I was about 8-12y/o my dad would take me out to fancy restaurants and let me order whatever I wanted once or twice a year. I looked so forward to these outings and they are still great memories. So if your daughter is well behaved, I have no doubt that Shula's will be happy to serve her.

I still remember ordering surf and turf once and the waitress looking at my dad like REALLY. And he just responded, 'whatever the little lady wants, it's our special day'.

Wow wish I had gotten this one, the one I bought was for $25 off 2 entrees and with steaks between $40-$75. It probably would have saved the tip. We didn't end up using it, went to Logans instead, not the same quality as Shula's by any means but we still enjoyed. Love the yeast rolls and happy hour.

10 years old isn't exactly a really little kid. If she likes big steaks, take her and get her one. Well-behaved children are welcome anywhere (with the exception of Victoria & Albert's - even there, they allow kids 10 and older, so your daughter is old enough to eat there if you so chose).

You still have to buy two entrees, but if your going anyway it seems worthwhile to me.

I wouldn't think twice about it. My son at 10 really enjoyed Shulas (in Detroit, not WDW).

As far as them discouraging kids, they aren't really trying to discourage well behaved older kids. They're trying to discourage the family that would come in with toddlers/preschoolers that might act up and disturb other diners. Most places that subtly discourage children are happy to serve tweens who can exhibit "adult" table manners and behaviour.

Could someone send/post the link of Shula's on restaurant.com? I can only find the Shula's in Jacksonville on there...

Thank you! :thumbsup2

As mentioned above she will be fine. I have seen children of all ages each time I was there.

They offer childcare at the Dolphin for those eating at Shula's? Tell me more!

We are going to WDW for our anniversary but taking the DD, 3, with us. We'd love to eat there or really any signature place but the kid's clubs only take 4 and up. She's never been left with a babysitter she doesn't know so we were not really keen on the in your room service. She does go to pre-school and loves it so a daycare setting suits us best.

IMO, Shulas has the best steaks in the Orlando area with Del Frisco being a close second. We also took our daughters there when they were about 9 and 12. They loved it and I think the atmosphere made them feel and act more "grown up." Enjoy your trip and a wonderful meal.:cool1::banana:

For restaurant.com, use the code SPORK at checkout for the discount. Right now it is a $25 certificate for $3.
We used one at Shula's not long ago.
The place was not busy at all, and it was dinner time on a Saturday night.
And three tables with diners in the room with us each had a kid or baby. There were no issues that I saw.
It was for our wedding anniversary.
We got a special they had -- 6 oz filet and lobster tail, 2 sides, salad, dessert. $95 (total) for both of us.
WITH the $25 certificate deduction, and automatic tip added on, we spent $102.

I found the Swan/Dolphin restaurants by searching by zip code.
