Dd and I are going to WDW in Sept. with the dining plan and I was wondering if the restaurants would let you get takeout with the plan. Dd is autistic and sometimes has a hard time sitting in a group of people (she likes to get up and look at what everyone else has!). Would places like kona and spoodles let us get takeout and then sit on the beach or boardwalk and eat? I don't want to miss out on some good restaurants but I really don't want to deal with a meltdown!

I'd call the chefs at the restaurants and ask. (Call Disney Dining.) They go out of their way for people with special dietary needs. Explain your situation to them. You may be surprised. It can't hurt to ask!

I don't really know, but if you explain your situation I'd think they'd work with you. I've always heard that you could order take out from the TS, but you must go to the podium to do so, you can't just call it in.

However when I was there in May, Mama Melrose was turing away people who didn't have PS. There was a couple a few people ahead of me who weren't taking no for an answer and kept saying they would wait for a table. The wife finally said they would just order to go, but the CM said they couldn't do that either. They finally demanded a manager be called, but apparently someone had already called him, because he arrived about that time. He also explained PS to them and that not only were walkups not being taken, but they could not order takeout. The couple continued to get louder. I guess they thought that if they caused a big enough scene the CMs would back down, but they didn't. Finally the guy in front of me said 'What part of no are you not getting, now leave so the rest of us can get in'. The man was really angry and said to the CM "Are you telling me all these people called three months ago to get in here tonight". It was really funny because at almost the same time we all yelled 'YES'. They finally left, but he was muttering that he couldn't believe they weren't allowed to wait for a table or couldn't even order take out. It may have been because they were so disruptive though.

Make a PS for the meal and if your child starts "acting out" (disability or not) just ask the waiter to pack it all up. If child is acting out have one parent take the child out of the situation and have the other waiting at the table for the packed up food.

The only problem may be desserts. Dont order anything with ice cream if you are going to do takeout.

I did take out for Kona last July - it was a really wonderful unplanned dinner!! I stopped at the resort shop and bought a bottle of wine (they uncorked it for free) then my Kona meal was done (wings and terryaki beef I think) I picked it up, and went back to the room, where dh was waiting with dd, we had food in the room, dh made dd a sandwich!!

Not sure if all do, but Kona's did, and I know I've read that Trail's End Buffet will let you fill a container to go as well!!

(oh and a tip, dont leave the leftover boxes in the room, the smell can drive one crazy!! there was no leftover food, or fridge... I walked the boxes out to the main garbage collection area!!)
