Alright--I posted this once but never got a response...does anyone know if someone on the dining plan could go to a table service restaurant and have a dinner (possibly the app. and dessert too) packed to go? I don't see why they would say no since they then get the same $$ but have a table free for another paying guest. We are taking my mother-in-law with us on our next trip and doing the dining plan (all of us) but there are a few nights that she wants to just relax at the resort (WL) instead of going out with us and may want a nice meal but not feel comfortable sitting alone at a restaurant. Can anyone tell me if they would allow this?

I have no idea, but like you don't see why not.

Just didn't want you to post twice and get no response. :flower:

if she's at the WL she can probably get room service... don't know if they accept Dining Plan?

I ate alone in Whispering Canyon (in the WL) once, and two waitresses actually sat down with me for a while! I didn't ask them to, I had a book to read, they just sat on down and said they needed a break! It was funny.

I hope you get an answer to your question. I never thought of buying take-out at Disney! If that is possible, we're doing it! :cheer2:

If you can't, and you have a car, there is a restaurant just across the street from Disney (a Perkins or Denny's or something) that has much better food than the ones around here, gives you a lot of it, and is used to WDW people & take-out. They never forget silverware, salt, pepper, butter, etc.

There is a McDonalds over by the All-Star hotels.

I remember another thread on this subject a few weeks ago. The person was told no carryout TS, so they went to the restaurant, ordered their meal, and immediately asked that it be boxed. This way they got carryout.

I agree with you that why not allow carryout on the DP- the tip is still received, and a table is freed.

I don't know about using your DP credits - but we did get take out from Kona Cafe during our last stay there. We did 3 apps for me and DH and got pasta for the kids. The girl at the podium told us if the restaurant is busy they will not do it - but it looked pretty crowded to me and they let us. I ordered - had a drink at Tambu Lounge and went back and got dinner. Everything was nicely packaged, hot, and included plastic utensils and rolls - so they must be able to do this. Have fun.

We had only one TS credit left on our checkout day, so we stopped at Kona and got a carry out meal. It took them about 20 minutes to get it prepared. They just gave us a pager like we were waiting for a table and paged us when it was ready.

We had tried earlier to use it at the Trails End carryout counter, but they would NOT allow it. They said we would have to sit down to eat to use the credit there.

thanks for the responses...I guess it may vary by restaurant. Since room service is not on the dining plan I guess I will just have to try to sweet talk the restaurant into doing it!? Since Kona would do it and had the boxes, plastic utensils, etc. then I assume everyone must have the capability?

Swilshire didn't specifically mention that they have utensils, I would check. All restaurants have "boxes" for you to take left overs, so they should be prepared in that way. I don't know if that would include utensils too!

And I'm sorry to say that I can't remember if they gave us plasticware. We had moved to a condo with a fully equipped kitchen, so it wasn't an issue. If there's any doubt, you could either bring a few plastic forks and spoons from home or just take a couple of extra from a counter service place ahead of time.

Totally off topic, but am I the only one that misses the cool colors they used to have for plastic forks, knives and spoons? I was very sad to see they've gone to all black. I guess it's cheaper, but the old ones really spruced up the meals.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the restaraunts at MGM allow takeout. When I was there this past May there was a couple at Mama Melrose that were not accepting the fact that Mama Melrose was not accepting walk ups that night and became very belligerant. The wife finally said they would just order their meal to go then. By this point the manager had become involved and told them that was not possible as they did not do take out. A couple of nights later I stopped off at the Brown Derby and asked for a piece of grapefruit cake to snack on, while I was waiting for Fantasmic and was told no.
