Take home box at Buffet?

resurrected thread, but it's hilarious.

Hilarious & informative. We've learned it's only acceptable to carry out food we/our family may want later. If we think we'd enjoy a banana, apple, muffin, croissant, etc., it's perfectly fine to carry it out from the buffet. OTOH, if it isn't something we want to carry out, it's strictly forbidden. Carrying out what we deem acceptable is perfectly fine. Carrying out anything we haven't is totally unacceptable. :rotfl:

Typical DIS logic. If the member does it, it's not rude, stealing, unacceptable, etc.

hilarious thread.

People in general (americans in particular) are gluttonous. If you allow doggie bags from a buffet, people will begin got go up get one last plate piled high with food and then only be able to eat a bite of it and have to take the rest home. I am pretty sure that the banana and the cookie are both gateway foods. :rotfl:

so the rules of the buffet are whatever you can shove down your gullet while you are sitting at your table counts. no doggie bags.

The only time we've ever taken food from a buffet is when DD was two at Tusker House, and when asking the waitress if she minded us taking a banana for DD she came back to the table with a bunch of them for us to take.

Funny story my aunt told. This happened years back. A lady with a purse in order in size of a shopping bag was going up a number of times. Each time she would slip something into the bag. The manager spotted this and followed her. When they got to the dessert station the manager tapped her on the shoulder pointing out she forgot dessert and proceeded to pour chocolate pudding into the bag.

There is only one time we have ever taken anything from a character meal....and that was at 1900 Park Fare when we were there in our wedding attire.
We had a most lovely server who brought us congratulations cupcakes but I was stuffed with Strawberry Soup so that was my "dessert" and she brought us a box to go.

This is a hilarious zombie thread though and definitely Cookies and cupcakes are a gateway food....who knows what I'll do next time.... ;)

I get it now!!!!
Since it works for you, breaking the rules is the way to go. The rule really doesn't apply to an overstimulated toddler, and I can take whatever I want for them to eat later.
I didn't see this anywhere in the policy.
Thanks for the information

SHADE!

well as long as we are confessing one time at a chinese buffet I took an almond cookie home for my mom because she loves them. It was wrong, but I did it anyway. Then the dog smelled it in my bag and helped himself so it didn't end up mattering. I know, I will go to hell for that.

I do draw the line at zip loc bags in my purse though, but my ex MIL used to keep them. it was so embarrassing when she'd start packing up her leftovers... mostly at regular TS (not disney, just in real life). I think she would for sure pack up buffet leftovers though... she had an OCD thing about wasting food. She wouldn't intentionally load up and not finish but sometimes you get full and sometimes you need to go to the bathroom but don't (or can't. whole other thread)... but if there was food on her plate she could NOT. LET. IT. GO. It was physically agitating to her. I drew the line at her taking mine a couple of times. I only take home leftovers if they are good cold or heat up well. and no she did not grow up poor or during the depression. she's a baby boomer.

Confession. I asked for a "to go" box at 1900 PF dinner. We were seated 45 mins late for our reservation, and we were quickly approaching missing our 7DMT FP. I mean, you can't get that back!!! As soon as we sat down I paid the bill, and after all the characters came around we were rushing around to get out and my DDs reminded me they never got dessert! I asked the server for anything I could throw some cookies in so we could make our FP and she brought back a nice sized box and said something like "make sure you take more than just cookies!" Probably tacky, probably gluttonous, but what are you going to do -- I had a FP reservation to make!

I got a to go box from 'Ohana a few years ago for my birthday. We had finished our meal and the wonderful 'Ohana dessert and our waiter brought me a birthday cupcake with a candle and a signed birthday card. There was no way I was eating that after all we ate. He brought out a small to go box and gave it to us to enjoy later.

That definitely never happened, but it's a funny story.
