Well, only wanted to stop in and say goodmorning before I leave for another week of basketball camp. Too bad this one is 45 minutes away....if it wasn't I would be able to sleep in longer because it starts later.....and believe me, those extra few minutes would be gladly appreciated!!!

Good morning!

I didn't sleep well last night and then I was sleeping well but I sturred for a moment and noticed it was after 7:00 so I had to get up and make my daily phone call to check for AP rates. As usual they told me <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_4.gif' border=0></a> <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_31_1.gif' border=0></a>.

I don't even think I can tell you guys about yesterday's game. BUT, I will try.

I got there in the second inning and we were down 3-1. Daniel had just made a most excellent play (that I missed), throwing a kid out at home plate FROM THE OUTFIELD!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/18/18_7_13.gif' border=0></a> Woohoo for my little boy!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_30_105.gif' border=0></a> And somebody said he can't throw that far.... But that's another story.

So anyway, next, Daniel's best friend Luke knocked another one out of the park - HOMERUN!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/18/18_7_15.gif' border=0></a> It was 4-2.

The game continued on and we had several good hits, etc., etc. Luke stole home in the 4th inning making it 4-3. There was some confusion on the field by the other team because they thought it was a deadball but the ump hadn't called "TIME" so it was not a deadball and Luke took advantage of that confusion to score the run.

Game continued on and we won 5-4!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/18/18_1_204.gif' border=0></a>

That put us in the championship game! Guaranteed a really NICE trophy<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_17_6.gif' border=0></a>. Really, really nice, I've seen them.

So the coaches gave the boys their little after game talk. I noticed that the other team didn't seem to be leaving. A couple of their coaches had their heads together<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/29/29_1_11.gif' border=0></a><a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/29/29_1_11.gif' border=0></a> and were saying "it's not right, we need to protest, blah, blah, blah". They were looking in the scorebook. Then they went off and were talking to the tourny coordinator. He was there to give them their 3rd place medallions, which were, BTW, very cool looking, IMO.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_12_10.gif' border=0></a>

The coordinator walked away with the medals still in his hand (they had refused to accept them) and the coaches went back over to their team and they all sat down under some shade trees. It became obvious they were not leaving.

They were protesting the call where Luke stole home. They said that the ump had bent over to brush the plate off and that was interference. They wanted to re-play the game!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_6_213.gif' border=0></a>

So llebrekinT What happened??? Surely they didn't get their way. I absolutely get livid about coaches who want to win no matter what the cost. What kind of sportsmanship are they teaching their team? GRRRRRR....

I went over to our team, who were all obliviously enjoying their victory, unaware of the temper-tantrum, cry-baby antics of the other team.

When they finished their pep talk and backpatting, I told DH what the coaches were saying. He said it didn't matter, the game was over and you have to make a protest known during the game.

Everybody sat down under shade trees or went to the concession stand to have dinner.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_2_204.gif' border=0></a>

DH just happened to bump into the tourny coordinator, who told him that they are protesting the win. They were waiting to talk to the Ump to make a decision.

Still not concerned about it, we sat down and ate our picnic dinner. DH skimmed through the rules book. He found where it says that a protest must be made loud and clear DURING the game. Also a protest may not be made unless it is relevant to the team being able to win the game.

They talked to the Ump that was at the plate on the phone. He said no one ever protested the call and that the run should stand. They got an Ump off another field and along with the coaches and coordinator, had a meeting out at centerfield.

The meeting seem t o g o o n f o r e v e r...

The meeting ended and their coaches started walking back slowly. Took that as a good sign, they didn't seem like they were particularly happy. DH and the other coaches stayed out at centerfield a bit longer.

When their coaches reached their side of the field there was an enormous cheer and everybody was up in the air, jumping up and down. We knew what that meant.

Say it isn't so! The Ump at the plate should have the final say! What did DH say ... why did the other coaches get their way???? I need a picket sign... I need some boxing gloves ... I need the address of the ballfield ... I need a magic carpet NOW!!!

Sorry, my mom called. I'll get to the part of the story why that (her calling) is important.

Each coach had a chance to tell their story to the Ump they called in. First the other coaches were calling it interference when the Ump behind the plate was sweeping the plate off. DH pointed out that the catcher was no where near the plate when Luke came in, he was picking up his face mask and not paying attention. Then they switched their story to saying that they had protested the run at the time it happened. They basically made stuff up as they went along. Saying that their coach went up to the Ump and announced "we're protesting this call", when their coach never even left the dugout.

Too late for long story short, the Ump that was serving as judge said that when that Ump brushed the plate off that was the same as calling "Time!". Never mind that it was let go, never mind that we continued on playing, no one saying anything about it until the game was over. Never mind that we didn't even take our last turn at bat.

We won the game 6-5. As home team we would have had the opportunity to have scored again, making this whole thing irrelevant. But since we didn't need any more runs to win, we never batted in the sixth inning. If they were really protesting the game, the sixth inning should have been played out to see if that one run actually even mattered.

So they ruled to start the game over in the 4th inning, with Luke on 3rd base, score 4-2 with two outs.

I am really sorry this story is so long.

I am going to go back and add a warning to my other posts to warn people who don't have the time to just skip over me.

[COLOR=FF66CC]llebrekniT[/COLOR], Just remember that at this age SPORTSMANSHIP is a major part of what the kids are supposed to be learning, and your team are being good sports.

Because of the way this happened, isn't there a way to appeal to the UMP that actually say the play? Was anybody Video-taping it? Instant Replay... GRRRRRR

We can send a little green Dragon over there to warm the coordinater's postereior, but that would not be good sportsmandhip. When is the rematch set for?

That is AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!
