Rick, I think as our parents get older, they definitely get softer. My dad is a WWII U-Boat survivor. My brothers were born right after the war when he was still a "tough guy" LOL. Apparently he was a real hard *** with them. By the time I came around, he was still pretty tough with me, but nothing like with my brothers and even my sister.

Now, as an Opa, he is a total pushover. If he kids act up in front of him, he laughs. If I had done the same thing when I was a kid, I would have been cuffed upside the head.

Danauk, I've heard about those fried Mars bars. Sounds like a stomach ache waiting to happen to me.

Oh, I've got my watercolor class tonight.

Disneyluvers, hope your son feels better soon. :(

RickinNYC - That's a really neat story. I used to worry 23 years ago when my son was a year and a half old and I was suddenly a single parent that he might "turn out gay." As far as I know, he's not, but I've never asked. He's had a couple of serious girlfriends, but none at the moment. What is really neat is when I read your post, I realized I no longer have that fear. If he is, he is, and I won't love him one iota less... I would worry about the social stigma for him, not me, ... things like you wondering how you and Joe would be treated on the Disney cruise by other folks. I'm curious how much times have changed for the better for you and Joe, as far as how people treat you, since when you were younger?

Okay enough being philosophical and serious, Barb, is that just a non-shedding dog smell? Whew! I usually bathe Toby and Tucker about once a month, but obviously I don't bathe them enough! And I got behind in brushing during the holidays, and so they are both matted. Tucker's hair is more silky and is not as bad, but Toby is curlier and he is like a Rastafari (sp??) guy with dreadlocks. (Almost like he's corded, but not as uniform as that!) Last night I brought the boys in from their walk, and they were a good 30 feet away from my Katie, and she started yelling immediately that I had to get them away because they smelled so bad. Granted, she has sensory integration dysfunction and her olfactory glands are hypersensitive, but she was right! I've even thought about bathing them before they go tomorrow, just so we won't be kicked out of the doggie parlor for being too odiferous!!! :teeth:

Hi Danauk, I don't know if battering black pudding or haggis would make them taste any better! Maybe we Americans have weak stomachs??? My FIL is from England, and he tells stories of making haggis that make my hair curl!!! He and his wife used to hold a huge Boar's Head Festival at their home every Christmas, complete with the roast pig with stuffed head and hardboiled eggs for eyeballs. Isn't that an English thing???

My evening will consist of doing dishes, helping kids with homework, perhaps bathing my stinky dogs, you know... all the glamorous stuff!

:)

Good Afternoon everyone!

Not much time to post, gotta get Lainie down for her nap.

QOTD: no "Rick's people" in my family that I know of, DH has a gay great aunt, but I don't know much about her. She is in her 70's I think.

I'll be back after I get the monkeys in their beds.

Did someone ask something about Kismetdreams?

My evening is bowling and beer. Luckily, i have the points saved for the beer.

Just wondering, where does one find 1 1/4 quarts of pigs blood? Is it in the dairy section in a jug? Do you keep it refrigerated, or at room temperature. Can you freeze it if you have some left over?

OK, I'm gonna go puke now. I've made myself sick.

Nuthin' beats a bowler! (Isn't that a line from a movie or something? Rob and I say it every now and again, so I should know. :teeth: ) I take the boys bowling occassionally. But bumpers are a requirement for me.

Nonshedding dogs. I think that nonshedding dogs, if bathed regularly, don't have that doggie smell. The only time I notice it on Otto and Beanie, is when they are wet or really excited. I know. It sounds stupid, but it's true. Lewski, aren't Cockers really odiferous?

Rick, have you smelled Bill's feet yet? Inquiring minds want to know. :hyper: Frito's, I swear it! ;) You dare me to start a CB poll? :hyper:

Just for the record, Haggis is a Scotish thing, not English and I couldn't eat it either (it is traditionally cooked in a sheeps bladder!!) and as for the whole roast hog thing, the meat tastes nice but I couldn't eat the head part. I don't like seeing them roast though!!When I have seen them cooking they have had an apple in their mouth! I've never seen anyone make black pudding just seen in ready to eat at the supermarket. It doesn't look like it has blood in it as it isn't runny and is black. The only reason I have eaten it is that I had some before I knew what was in it and didn't mind the taste. I couldn't eat much of it now though.

As for QOTD: No ricks people in my family, but my family is very small, just me, mum, dad, one aunt and two uncles. I don't have any cousins either. DH has a small family too. I have a few gay friends though. I went to an arts college (did a music degree) and do lots of work in theatres which is where I met most of my gay friends.

Heck, I don't need a dare. I started the poll.

Leaving now for the grocery store. I'll check in when I get home.

Things have changed dramatically for the better as far as I've seen. When I was in college from '84-'89, "gay" was never mentioned. And if it was, it was always a walk on character that was soon to be killed off. Or it was some character they introduced for that "very special epidose."

Now it's so commonplace. Look at Will & Grace, Queer Eye, Ellen and on and on. I sometimes marvel at the fact that now, I can actually say, "I don't care for Will & Grace." Wow! I actually have choices!

On a more personal note, Joe and I don't have much concern about being called names when/if we hold hands in pubic. We also dont' fear getting bashed. I've had friends that were attacked and hospitalized.

Society as a whole has grown and matured and realized one of two things. 1. Being gay is not big deal. or 2. So you're gay. I don't understand it but it's none of my business.

I actually never thought such attitudes would exist in my lifetime. I never thought I'd be planning a wedding!

Danauk! Quick question for you. Do you watch Graham Norton?

Joe and I went to a taping of his show here in NYC last year but nothing came of it. Then Joe went to another taping and he was asked to make a fool of himself. Was wondering if you watch it 'cause I could tell you which episode he was on.

For that matter, Graham is back in NYC and we're going to yet another taping this Thursday.

Yes rickinnyc I love to watch Graham Norton, I usually watch his show each night when it is on, he is so funny!!!! I love the things he gets his guests to do!! Seeing famous people make fools of themselves and not minding it! I'm so jealous you have been to see one of his shows abd are going again. Which show was Jo on? I probably saw it.

Ok, I hate to admit it, but....... as soon as I read your post, I just had to smell Cadbury's paws :snooty:, and YES! they definitely smell like Fritos

.......and now my choc lab is a bit shocked.....afraid of what other of her body parts I might try to smell next  :teeth:

They can be. Of course, mine wasn't. But yeah, their ears can get gross and stinky. I bathed her and groomed her well.

Here's my Kelsey, God rest her soul, I miss her SOOOOO much.

She's been gone 2yrs now and I still have very sad thoughts. :(

I've heard of Graham, but can't say I've seen anything (that I know of) but I had to say I love the show "Have you been served?".

Also, Danauk are you close to Essex at all? I have a friend that pokes fun of people from there.

No I don't live near Essex, I'm a Yorkshire girl, not an Essex girl!! (although I live in the midlands now, about an hour from Birmingham by car and 2 hours from the outskirts on London.) My SIL is an Essex girl now though as she lives in Southend-on-sea. And yes, anyone who is not from Essex makes fun of Essex girls too!

I love Are you being served as well? We have it on sky over here as well still. I remember when I was younger I met the actress who played Mrs Sloacome (sp?) as it was filmed in the TV studios near where I grew up. I actully was in a TV show in the same studio some of it was filmed in although it was many years later!

I love the pointless gifts Graham Norton gives people on his show! Where does he find some of that stuff from?

Ah ha, so there is something about Essex girls. I didn't completely believe him, until now. Simon wasn't lying.

I'm not dissing Essex girls (after all dear SIL is one) but the joke is they are all blonde (hey so am I) and are not too bright!! Plus they are a bit easy with the men!!!! It's not true though!!
