Oh then nm! It was really the last book in particular. I was reading it like I can't believe kids are reading this! They're really great but the last one was very graphic at times. And it doesn't get good until 200 pages into the first one. There is WAY too much teenage whiney angst. It drove me nuts!

Yikes, I hope I don't have to struggle reading 200 pages before it gets interesting. That would be difficult for me. Then again, if I can read teenage life in Gossip Girl, maybe I can take it.

I haven't even really seen what it looks like but I loved my XP so much that I just stuck with it. The only thing that sucks is that I found a box of my old computer games I used to play as a kid and I got all excited to play them again but they only work on 98'! The new technology doesn't do well with old games I guess. It stinks!

Why don't you install them, and go to compatability mode and set them to play as if it was win98?

I've read the Twilight books. Although they are entertaining, they are not in the literary caliber of the Harry Potter series. They would be a good read for your daughter, IMO though.

I totally know what you mean! Luckily when I re-read them I could just skim over the angsty parts and get to the good stuff. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do that with the movie And true blood is great!

Windows XP has a built in compatability mode to run older software.

it REALLY easy to use.

AS AN EXAMPLE, choose any icon on your desktop and RIGHT CLICK on it. you will get a drop down menu. on the very bottom is a "properties" selection, select that (click) an you will get a small window that will have several tabs. One of them is "compatability"

click on that. The first box has a check box and the label: "run this program in compatability mode for:"

Whn you check the box it will allow you to choose windos 95 or Windows 98/me WIn 200, and so on, all in a pull down menu. Choose Win98/me!

THEN you can also choose several options below that. (resoultion, etc.)

Once you make the choices, click "apply" then "OK"

So if you have some old software (games etc) install it on windows XP, then once it is installed, change the compatability to Windows 95 or 98 and enjoy!

Even weirder, some days I see it, other days I do not. Today I do not (well, I should say "right now" I do not.....I could come back later and it would suddenly be there!). But right now all I see is the Red X.


Grumpy Pirate - I did not know that about the compatibility mode!! I run XP, and while we don't have too many older games, there are a few of the kids' CDs that might benefit from that. Thanks!


Oh and by the way, thanks to your scrolling tag over there, I now find myself using that phrase when I'm in less-than-pleasant situations with people....If someone at work bugs me, I deal with the problem but in my mind I'm telling them "I'm gonna give you the ol' Delete of Nevermind"..... Wouldn't that be great if you could get rid of annoying people that easily?!!

Interview with a Vampire was the first in the Anne Rice vampire series, Lestat. The Sookie Stackhouse novels are very light reading. It's kind of like a supernatural action/harlequin romance novel. The TV series is only following the book a bit. They've made a lot of changes for TV.

It's a group of mostly very rich privledged teens. There is 1 normal income family and another rich kid where the government seized everything so now he has nothing. There has been plenty of backstabbing and things like that, but I really don't find it racey/nasty/bad or whatever you call it. There is not a lot of sleeping around like people assume. There is plenty of underage drinking though.

It sounds interesting. And I watch my fair shair of, well, interesting shows I LOVE Sons of Anarchy which is like the most violent, sweary, show I think i've ever seen on tv. I can't believe what they can play now!

I can see it, and the properties are that it is a bitmap image. Did you put it there? (in other words, its not from the TF?) If you put it there and it is streaming from another source, such as photobucket, etc. then I would say that POSSIBLY the bandwidth from that source is being used. if you uploaded it directly from your computer, then the image properties may be such that it isn't loading properly, and thus the red "X"

If it's from Tag Fairy, I have expreienced that once in a while. sometimes the image that TF puts in your avatar area dosn't load, or that server that holds the image may be busy at the time you sign on! and the image cannot load, so the program just moves on and you again, get the red "X"

If you can see it, and some other people can't, they may not have the plug-ins required to view that particular type of image. or possibly they need more RAM to store that image for loading....OR they have pagefiles set too a smaller amount and it is cutting the Bitmaps. OR they have security software set that rejects certain images as data can be hidden inside them (a virus?)

in other words, it could be for many reasons.

(or maybe the Tag fairy is messing with you!!!)

It's awesome! It's on FX. It's a show about a biker gang that runs an illegal gun operation through their bikerhouse and they have to deal with rival gangs and the cops. But the cops are corrupt so the FBI show up, etc. The characters are really interesting and the acting is great!

Sounds like I would like this show. What day is it on? Hopefully not on the same time as something else I watch. I really like FX. I used to love Rescue Me.
