It's a family day around here too. We went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast, we're watching football now, and later we'll go to the mall. We're taking DD to Build-A-Bear for doing well in school.

I'm roasting! Summer is definately having its last blast here. The van read 91 degrees. I'm sick of the heat!

I love Cracker Barrel esp. the retail side :goodvibes:

Hey everybody! I just got back from having my nails done. We took my MIL out to lunch then went bowling. We were having a great time 'til DH got a call about work and we had to leave in the middle of the game. I had just gotten two strikes in a row when he got the call. I think he made the whole work thing up because he was afraid I was going to beat him. :rotfl: I'm just kidding. :goodvibes Hope you all are having a wonderful day, despite the heat. :thumbsup2

It was raining so hard, we didn't make it to Build A Bear. We went to Chuck E Cheese instead. Talk about torture. Then we went to Arigato's, a Japanese steak house, for dinner. Yummy! But the baby is a bit afraid of the table show. I guess we'll have to stop going for a bit until she's better with loud noises and fire.

:rotfl2: I'm sorry, this just struck me SO funny!!

What mall were you supposed to go to for BAB? My dad goes to Tyrone once in a while (if he has to go to a mall!...a shopper he's not). That's the only one I've been to down there.

International Plaza in Tampa, right by the airport, has a BAB. It is a nice VERY upscale mall. I feel like I need a credit check just to enter most of the stores. :lmao: But it has a Cheescake Factory so I like going there. I grew up going to Tyrone and still go often. I'm happy they're finally adding an "Old Navy." I always had to go to Tampa or Clearwater to go there before.

I made my plans today for my spa time on Saturday. I wanted to book a package deal they had, but couldn't remember the name. I told the lady I wanted the help mom get away from the kids package. She started laughing. It includes a pedicure and a hot stone massage. I added a facial too. I can't wait!

Hellloooooo (helloooo helloooo hellloooo) I think I'm hearing an echo it's so empty in here today.

Yeah, it's quiet, huh? Smiley must be up to her ears in the house. I've popped in a few times today but there was nothing going on so I didn't post.:surfweb:

I had a frustrating day re: our house. Our agent e--mailed with the feedback from the Friday and Saturday showings. The Friday guy was looking for an investment property - not sure how he even ended up here but he made comments on our price being slightly higher than the new construction being offered here in town, and that our place "needs some finishing." Well, first of all, the "new construction" lots haven't even been cleared yet, and worse than that they are in one of the "not so nice" neighborhoods in town (as in run-down and unkempt), AND their prices don't include a garage. So, you're not comparing apples to apples there. But the "needs some finishing" really got me - we are in the process of putting up the last of the crown molding, baseboard and door trim. We thought it was pretty obvious to anyone walking through here that we're in-process. This guy seemed to think we were just going to leave the place 99% done! So, I e-mailed our agent back saying that that MUST be in print somewhere, so that when other agents come through there is NO question what so ever that we WILL have the place finished before any closing date!! Geez... But honestly, I just brushed this guy off as someone looking to grab something way under value and he really doesn't have a clue.

The agent for the Saturday repeat people told our agent that her clients had ruled it out (our house) but would not say what they liked or didn't like. Believe it or not that was a relief to me, because I had decided that this lady is quite unprofessional as realtors go. We had a few issues when she was here last Tuesday, and when they came on Saturday, they all drove up the driveway just a couple of minutes after 10:00am, when the showing was scheduled for 10:30.... Um, can we have a chance to get out of the house and LEAVE!!?? I was thinking how much of a pain she'd be to deal with if these people ended up making an offer. She'd be one that nit-picked every last detail to death.

It's only been two weeks since we listed...It's far too early for me to be this frustrated!!!:headache: So you know what?...I've forced myself to do a 180 and have the outlook that we won't sell this fall, and we're going to settle in for the winter and get comfortable. I'd rather be uprooted and totally surprised than constantly on the edge over when the next showing is and when is it gonna sell! Ugh. This really stinks.

But you know what else?!...my DS5 now has a "best friend," and he is going to her house tomorrow after school and is SO excited! And today, when she found out that he has started taking the bus home, she cried!! Her mom has been picking her up but she was SO sad that she couldn't ride the bus with her friend! HOW cute is that...! In some respects, it's not a bad thing if we stick around here for a while.

It's still my house, darn it!! (oh, and sorry for the rant!!)

HEY!!!...Is anyone else here?!

"Anyone?...anyone?...Beuler?...Beuler?...."

:rotfl:

Seriously where IS everyone today?! Did y'all get tags and LEAVE?!!

I'm here LegoMom and I just read the post about your house. I think you are doing the right thing by taking it all in stride. Like you said, it's only been two weeks. And the story about your DS's new friend ... that was so sweet.

Mean Queen - I bet you can't wait for your spa. I can't wait to hear all about it. Perhaps spas should have a package called 'Help Mom Get Away From the Kids.' I bet they'd sell plenty based on name alone. ::yes::

GOOD MORNING!!

I'M BAAAAACK!!

I SEE YOU SHAKIN' YOUR HEAD!!

I am so glad you have taken this kind of attitude. I just hope I can follow your lead when we put ours on in about 2 weeks. :thumbsup2

Good morning everyone! I need some advice if you can help.

Have any of you ever worked third shift or know someone that has? Did you/they like it? My boss has propositioned me about going to third as the supervisor on that shift was recently promoted. My DH isn't too happy about the idea, though. I am considering it for several reasons -

It would give me the opportunity to learn something new. The supervisor job on 3rd is totally different and has more responsibilities than mine on 2nd.

I want to go back to school and the shift I work now is hard to do that. The program I am interested in is accelerated and meets one night a week. I currently work 1PM-9PM.

It would give me exposure to a different group of people. I will have twelve people under me instead of ten and three are women. Right now I supervise all men. There is a lot of drama on second because our shift overlaps with first. There's constant arguing and fighting between the hourly employees. Lately I've been really stressed out about it and I think that is why I have so much trouble sleeping. This is not the main reason for going to third. In fact, I would never take the job to simply get away from people. I know there will be stress on third, but since it's a slower paced shift and only our shift in the bldg, I think it will cut down on the drama.

As I've said, DH doesn't want me to do it. If I don't take the job, it would be for that reason. He thinks we won't get to spend any time together except on the weekends. He works 1st shift, typically 7AM-5PM. I explained to him that it would not be much different than it is now. If get home around 7:30AM and go to bed around 9, I would be awake by the time he gets home. We could eat dinner together and hang out a little before I go to work. I don't imagine being the type of third shifter that could sleep in the evenings, unless it was just a quick power nap.

I have a few concerns about 3rd shift as well. The biggest one being, what if I hate it?? Right now I like my job. What if I end up hating it simply because of the hours? What I keep telling myself though is that success sometimes means taking risks. This position could quite possibly advance my career, so this is likely a good risk. But I don't know because I've never worked third.

Another concern I have - and I plan to talk to my boss about this - if I do take the job it starts Sunday night. Well, I am scheduled to work this Saturday, at least eight hours but possibly twelve. (As a company, we always work the last Saturday of every month for inventory.) That would mean that I won't get a day off until Friday of next week. I don't know if I like that idea. But that is why I'm going to talk to the boss about it, perhaps we can compromise.

Even if you don't have any advice, thanks for letting me type this out. I feel better.

1.)
2.) Follow your gut on this. If you feel that you can keep things comfortable for you and hubby (for me this is the very first consideration)...do what gives you the most avenues for your future.

That is how we faced a simular situation about 2 years ago. The only thing I can say is thank goodness we made the change. It was a wonderful choice for us.

I have worked the overnight shift a few times. I've worked 2-11 a.m., midnight - 9 a.m., and 5 a.m. - 1 p.m.. Honestly, that was another major factor in me leaving the TV news business. I hated working overnights. When my husband was on the same shift as me, it wasn't too bad. But when we got on opposite shifts, we didn't see each other. Fridays and Sundays were the worst. To have a "normal" life, you'd have to stay up on Fridays and end up being up for almost 24 hours. I always ended up feeling sick. On Sundays, I'd have to switch my schedule back and even if I got up early, it was hard to get to bed by 5 p.m.. So I was always extra tired on Mondays. I guess you can tell, I was not a big fan of the overnight shift. I did it to help my career, but it was very hard on me, my relationship with friends, and especially my family once I had one.
