Oooh. Yes please. Tell me more about this book of which you speak!

I hope not to offend anyone and promise not to hijack the thread but...

Deer make me think of God. I think it's because they're usually so passive and gentle and peaceful. In the winter it's always dark when I'm on the road in the morning and sometimes they're there, just off the side of the road and my headlights catch them. Always puts a smile on my face.

:goodvibes

I am not religious, but it does not offend me that you say deer make you think of god.:goodvibes To each his own. I very much appreciate your concern not to offend those with different views though. Funny, you should mention deer, I saw 5 last night. They like to feed at dawn and dusk. We were coming home from my sons baseball game at just the right time. :)

I attended an outdoor Native American wedding once. The guests stood in a circle with the couple in the middle. A woman came from far away to perform the ceremony. I think they called her a medicine woman. Does that sound right? It was the most interesting ceremony I have ever been to. I really enjoyed it.

I see deer all the time as well. I love seeing them and think about the sighting the rest of the day, also with a smile on my face. The deer have many meanings... the main one is Gentleness and Innocence, Gentle luring to a new adventure. Deer have been able to adapt to every sort of habitat. The deer antlers, which grow behind the eyes, hint at heightened perception.

When a deer shows up in your life, it is time to be gentle with yourself and others. A new innocence and freshness is about to be awakened or born. It is a time to ask yourself if you are being too critical and uncaring of yourself. Are you trying to force things? It is an opportunity to express gentle love that will open new doors to adventure for you.

Yes, a medicine woman is correct. I have been to one as well. Some of the ceremonies are also negatively associated with pagen and celtic associations.

I am Cherokee as well. My mother and I lived on a reservation for 3 years of my life. It was a safe place from my father who was very abusive, the indians did not let him on their land. I was very young and my memories are of course distorted by the age and what is noticed and remembered from those years. I also had a part Indian and part Christian service for my mothers ashes.

We go to drum circles and my oldest son is a fire tender for sweats. I want them to know of my heritage and allow them to see and appreciate everyone for who they are.

Sounds like you have a good understanding of who you are. There are so many things I feel that I need to explore. You just don't know how often I have wanted to sit down with an Elder and have things explained to me. This isn't the place or time for that but I do envy you of your knowledge. Keep it close to you.

I'm really not sure what this means. Please excuse my ignorance. Are you disgusted by that or lauging at me? :rotfl2: All I know is that I don't know how anyone could have watched that ceremony and found anything negative to say about it. It was beautiful.

Have you ever been on a cruise??????

I've been on a 7-day Eastern Caribbean cruise with Carnival. It was a ton of fun. We went to Nassau, St. Thomas and St. Maarten.

The BF and I are talking about cruising over the New Year as a combo birthday (both of us are in October) and Christmas gift to each other. We're looking Western/Southern Caribbean. We'd like to try Royal Caribbean. I don't think I could ever get him to agree to a Disney cruise, but was thinking I might try it out myself and/or with a friend!

BF has cruise many more times than I have. Carnival and Norwegian, I think.

I've never cruised. Hubby and I have been talking about it. I would love to do an Alaskan cruise. As much as I love Disney the Disney cruises scare me a little as far as there being so many young children. My youngest will be 19 in a couple of weeks. :scared1:

I have been on a cruise once. It was given to my husband's company and no one wanted it so it got passed down to us. It was short, but I'm not complaining. We never had a honeymoon or a vacation together so it was WONDERFUL. We spent about 7 hours in the Keys and most of a day in Mexico.

This book sounds great. I've got to look into it. Are you of Native American heritage? I am. I have been researching my roots for years. It has helped to understand things that I feel sometimes. We are Cherokee.

I'm part Cherokee and Blackfoot. I went to Cherokee to research my past, but my family tree branches out a little oddly so I couldn't find anything. It could be because my family was from the western tribe, but since I have no contact with that side of the family, I don't know for sure.

Maybe we are all long lost cousins!! Hey Moms is your hair dark and curly? :rotfl:

Oh no... I am not disgusted by that or laughing at you. I was just saying that many of the different types of ceremonies have been viewed as negative. I think that is sad that they think that. I, too, found it a very beautiful ceremony.

I love it! It was so nice to go to all those places and do all the fun stuff on the ships. I heard that Royal is very close to Disney in service. I think I could do it every year instead of other vacations.

I understand that. I didn't run into a lot of kids when we went but we went in October which is a bit off season as many are still in school. The older boys 19 & 20 had a great time as well as they could go to the nightclubs and dance just not drink. They had a lot of adult only things.

I got ya.:) Of all the weddings I have attended, the Native American one is the ceremony I enjoyed the most.

Once I went to a wedding where the guests stood in the church the entire time. Me being short, I never even once saw the bride. All I could see were the back of peoples heads. Didn't enjoy that so much.

I am not sure how either. Someone suggested that the many Mormon's were very much into geneology and could help or suggest different outlets to get help. I have not done that and have no contact with my father's family.
