Glad to be back! How is everyone?

I see we were discussing cornbread.

Tink hearts cornbread.

I'm sorry I missed your post earlier. You snuck up on me.

I agree with you on the cornbread. We it is cooked right is it one of my favorite foods. :thumbsup2 I've been doing okay. I just about drove myself crazy trying to lock down vacation dates. (Really drove myself crazy::yes:: Everyone else too:lmao: ) But we have it figured out now and all is good. :thumbsup2

Welcome back! Has anyone made the Chi Chi's Mexican Corn Cake mix? It's really good. You can find it in the mexican food section. We use it as a side dish, though it really tastes more like a dessert.

I haven't ever tried it. What all is in it?

That sounds like fun. Are you able to use DVC points towards the Disney Cruise?

You could, but you'd need a lot more points than we have... and we have a lot, 400. Some people pay points for the first 2, then cash for the next 2. When you pay DCL with points, you pay for each person. When you pay for a room with points, you only pay for the room, no matter how many people are in it. So for us, using points for a cruise isn't the best use.

The mix (which is like a sweet cornmeal), butter, and cream corn. I think water too, but can't remember.

I just joined Weight Watchers again today. So that won't be on my menu for awhile. I'm making my meatloaf muffins tonight. :thumbsup2

Can I ask you a nosey question?....If you were to go on 1 trip with your 400 points how long would you be able to stay? We are back to playing around with the idea of buying in because of the cost of this trip. I was just curious how far that many points would take you.

I know you have told us how to make those in the past, but would you share again?

Do you like the online version?

It's ok. All the tools are there, but you have to be really good about logging in and tracking everything. I'm...not so much...particularly on the weekends. I'm actually thinking about just doing it myself and saving $16.95 per month. I have all the tools so I don't necessarily need the online stuff. And I have a subscription to the magazine, so I get plenty of recipes. Plus, sometimes it's more fun to make your own recipes WW friendly.

I used to go to the meetings but I found that the ones that were available to me were all about pushing the WW food products and just "bashing" food in general.

For example, instead of reasonably discussing alternatives to, say, dealing with cake for birthday parties at work, I swear those women would denounce the "cake bringers" likening them to Satan himself and demanded that ONLY nutritious WW-friendly food be served.

I raised my hand and was like, "Well, you could just bring your own WW dessert in on birthday day and not have the cake."

I swear to you, I didn't think I would make it out alive.

But, in general, I like the Points program. Works for me.

Thanks Tink. I think I'll look into this. I have gained weight and it has to come off. ::yes::

Well, I'm off. I'll be gone for the afternoon. But I'll be baaaaaack later. Have a great day everyone!! :goodvibes

I forgot the exact dates of your trip, but I plugged in Dec. 14 - 20th in a 2-bedroom preferred view at BWV. It would use 219 points. This means you could take another smaller vacation or the same length in a smaller room. Or you could bank the points and save them up for a bigger trip. You can also borrow points from the next year.

We take an annual trip to a 3-bedroom at Hilton Head for New Year's and it is generally less than 200 points for the trip. Our friends and their kids come along. Since Dec. 2006, we've taken 12 trips using our points. We have managed to borrow a whole year ahead, but I know one day we'll take less trips and catch up.

I do WW too, but online. Meatlof muffins? I'm intrigued.

I do it online too. I don't do well with the meetings. I don't like feeling guilted by other people to lose weight or exercise. I've done really well with it in the past, but it can get a bit frustrating counting points all the time. But it's easier for me to follow than the Core plan.

Meatloaf Muffins -
1lb lean ground beef
1 box Stove Top (I use cornbread or Savory)
2 egg whites
1 cup water

Mix everything together. Put in a muffin tin sprayed with Pam and bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. Serve with ketchup.

Each muffin is 2 points. I usually eat 3 muffins and serve it with a side of corn.

I agree 100%. Sometimes the counting gets tedious but I'm not convinced the Core plan works as well. I'm sure I'd overeat.

These sound nummy! I love meatloaf. Though, I prefer it with brown gravy in place of ketchup. I could probably eat one less loaf and substitute the ketchup with Franco-American Fat Free Beef Gravy!

Wow!! Looking at it like that the DVC is worth every penny and then some.

Thank you!! That sounds good. I have o go grocery shopping tomorrow. These ingredients will be added to the list.:thumbsup2

Yum that sounds good too!!

Have a good day!! And I want to hear about the school issues.::yes::

Good heavens it was busy here today! I had to go back two pages to find this quote from you, Smileybug!

I also went back about 22 pages to last week, as I was sure I had mentioned the school issues, but I couldn't find my post if I did, so I'll recap as briefly as I can without trying to leave you confused...

One week before the end of the school year, a note is sent home to parents that the 3rd and 4th grade classes will be combined next year. There will be a meeting on "x" night.

I go to the meeting. Lots of parents go to the meeting.

NONE of them are happy campers...

The reasons behind this decision are too confusing to go into here (never mind that the true reason is confidential and those of us who know, aren't supposed to....). But the real kicker is that a majority of the parents are against it, and we were NEVER given an opportunity to be involved. A decision was made by the board (basically with the super hanging over them....he's new and he's turning out to be a d*nk, pardon my subtlety....:rotfl: ).

SO!....all we can do now is appeal to the board to have the decision overturned.

I will state again, that we were informed of this one week before the end of the school year.

Last night we held a parent's meeting to gather our ammunition, so to speak, to bring before the school board next month.

In a town of less than 1200 people, with an elementary school that has less than 100 kids total, this is just unacceptable. It's unacceptable anyway, but you just don't pull something like that in a close-knit school community!!

As much as I am still nervous and wavering on my decision to quit my job or not (which I'd have to in order to home school all the boys), I can tell you that if this decision is NOT reversed, my kids will NOT be in the school next year. And again, there is a lot going on here, it's not just a matter of me being crabby and stubborn and saying "Oh, I don't want my kid in a large combined class when he's used to a small one." If it goes through, it will totally, and I mean totally, change the dynamics of the classes and how they are taught.

I wish I could divulge more, but I'm not comfortable spreading what I know, when I'm not supposed to know it, even here "anonymously!"

Suffice it to say, our great little elementary school has been turned upside down and shaken vigorously, and I don't know how it'll come out of all this.

Gotta go make dinner....the natives are restless! Be back later!

.

Wow.. Okay I remember about us talking about this a little while back. I was hoping things had been resolved. Have yall been given a time frame on when a finale decision may be reached?

Well, technically the "final decision" already has been made, which is why so many parents are up in arms. Thus the appeal process. The next school board meeting is July 9th (I don't think they're planning to be ready for that one) and then again on July 20-something. That's the one we'll attend.

But it's really squeaking it under the wire, when the district is requesting all school desions to be made by the end of July (since our school "failed" No Child Left Behind, we have school choice by law). AND!...on top of that, they aren't planning to release final details about the our classes until the 3rd week of August....so they're asking parents to decide where they want to send their kids, without all the info they need to make that decision!!!

Did I mention the super is a di- --- oh yeah, I did....

This is so back-handed and sneaky that it really makes my blood boil, and I'm not an "activist" by nature.

Are there any other schools near by that you would be interested in sending the boy to?

No, I'm really not leaning towards that option. It gets kind of complicated, but I like the idea of being involved with our little town, and sending them to another school just for the academics just doesn't appeal to us.
